I was arguing with my husband over the weekend about cat food. I have had cats my entire life and we always fed them...whatever. I know with one cat we got this Purina Special Care Cat Chow, but then they stopped making it, so we moved onto something else. Whatever was in a bag at Target when I went there, KWIM?? I didn't change up foods on them unless I had to (such as when they stopped making a certain kind) but I wasn't getting like pedigree special formulas either.

We adopted/rescued both our cats, they're not pure-bred show cats and he wanted me to buy some bag of food that was $9.50!!!

First of all, why change their food? They've had Friskies forEVER and they both love it.

Second of all, it's less than half the price of that other one!! Hello, I'm unemployed!

So what do you think, does the more expensive cat food make a difference?

This website mostly rates dog food but I'm sure you could use it to rate your cat food as well. It has you add up the ingredients and give your food a scoring based on what's in it.

But I'll be honest - I feed my cat just plain old Purina weight control b/c that's what I've always fed him but I don't think it has the highest rating. And you also don't want to switch around their food a lot b/c that can cause digestive issues. HTH! :)

I have tried to change my cats food a few times (whatever I can find a coupon for I will try!) and let me tell you... that stubborn cat would push her bowls off the counter and onto the floor.... what a b! I guess she didn't like me changing it haha! She LOVES the goodlife cat food, pricewise it is good and I dont think it is horrible food either!

I used to buy Purina dry food and Fancy Feast can food until one of my cats started throwing up all of the time so I switched to Nutro for both of them. I couldn't be happier with the switch. Granted I probably would have never looked into it before I had that problem but now they even eat less because Nutro is pure protein and has no fillers like all of the other foods. Yes it is a little more expensive, but since I am buying less it isn't much of a difference. If your cats are happy, there is no need to change.

My dogs and cats all eat Nutro.  I used to feed the cats whatever, but the vet recommended trying out what my dogs were eating.  Their poo started smelling WAY less.  Added bonus!

We just switched and only feed our cats wet food due to the recent advice of my Aunt and Uncle and our vet.  Think about it, cats are carnivores... so their systems are not able to digest the starch, grain, and ash that is in most dry food.  Their diet should be made of mostly meat, because it is what they are genetically engineered to eat/digest the easiest! :)

I have to feed mine Hills Prescription Diet b/c I have one with urinary issues.  I have noticed their poop isn't as stinky or as loose as it was Purina or other types but other than that I didn't notice much else, other than my cat doesn't develop the urinary crystals like he used to! 

Where do you get that food, Princess? 

We feed our cat Science Diet. I feel like it is the best quality. A vet once told me that Friskies and stuff like that is junk food for them.
