When you first told people how you met or that you were joining a dating site?

My mom was all for it.  As the matter of fact, it was her idea.  After I paid for my membership though, I had a panic attack just thinking about meeting practical strangers and tried to cancel my membership.  They offered me 2 extra months for free (a total of 3) if I would stay and give it a chance.  I did, but I didn't need the 2 extra months.  I found FI before the end of the first month :)

Most people are like "oh thats cool" and I swore my parents knew that I met him on Match.com but after my mom saw our wedding website she called and said "you met him on the internet!!!" then proceeded to give me a lecture about how unsafe that was and how she hoped I drove and met in a public place ect... I was like mom hush, you love him and he's a good guy... lol  I told her at first "no mom we didnt meet online I just put that on teh website for the hell of it" lol

When I told my uncle about it he said he saw we met on match, him and his new wife met on match quickly as well! lol

I have a lot of people who say I hear that really works.. then they tell me about another couple they know that met online.. I've also had others sign up due to our success.

lol Mrs.wagner.

A little late for lectures, huh?

It's becoming more and more common these days.

I think my situation was a bit different because it went more like "Mom, I've bought a plane ticket to Australia....to meet a guy I met online. " I was 20.

I get the most horribly rude reactions from people!! When I was in America and we were only engaged, people would ask about the wedding and, inevitably, it would come out that he was in Australia. Then they ask how we met and I brace myself for their reaction as I spout my well-rehearsed, "Oh, we met online actually; a couple years ago. " Sometimes I got an anecdote about how they know someone or another who met so and so online. Usually I got rude comments like, "Oh....well, good luck with that." "How do you know he's not pretending to be someone else" and the ever popular disgusted "Ohhhh."

Idiots. I'm so over it. I feel like I've had the same conversation a billion times and I'm tired of explaining our relationship to people!!!

TPB, Luckily I've not had those reactions :-( (at least not to my face, lol)

Sometimes it hard for people to grasp that a relationship that started online is just as real as one that started in church, or a bar...  ESP. older people.  I'd love to have been a fly on the wall at my Nanny and Papaw's house when they found out, lol.  (they're in their 70s)

And, Look at it this way, YOU have proved them wrong ;-)

My mom and the rest of my family were all for it as long as I was smart and safe about it! I only told 2 of my friend initially (one of them had suggested match.com to me). When I finally decided to get over my embarrassment and tell people the truth, I found out one of my friends and her now husband met the same way, and a few of my single friends are doing it now after seeing what a great guy I found on it! :) I am finding more and more people are doing this and meeting wonderful people who they might marry someday!
