FI and I have been going back and forth on what kind of send off we should do. We're doing a late afternoon/early evening ceremony (4:30-5:00ish) but in January it'll be dark by the time the ceremony is over. I also think the "send off" should be at the end of everything, after the reception--otherwise it's like, "What exactly are we sending you off TO?"

So... nighttime send off. Birdseed would probably work, but bubbles wouldn't--they're mostly a visual thing and it'll be too dark to see. Sparklers aren't allowed everywhere... so does anybody else have ideas?

One thought I had was noisemakers--like the party blowers? Our wedding is on New Year's Day so they'd be easy to find, and you'd still be able to hear them no matter how dark it was!

We more than likely are going to do bubbles.  The reason we can do this (since our wedding is at night) is because our reception is at the hotel we are staying at.  We are going to have the guests line up outside the reception area and down the stairs.  That way my FI and I can make our exit down the stairs (to our room) with bubbles in the air.  I originally wanted sparklers... but yeah, not allowed inside.  Lol.

I think the noisemakers would be a super cute idea being New Years Day and all.  What about streamers?  You know, those little ones that come in the fireworks kits that you pop and the streamers come out?  Anything shinny will reflect the small amount of light there may be from the reception hall/street.  Or you could do little "Yay" flags?  They had a post today on the main forum with them.  Super cute.

Those are both good ideas! I'll have to run them by FI. :)
