"The Rose"  will always make me think of my mom

When my little girl is smiling - The Drifters.  My dad used to sing this to me when I was growing up (still sings it occasionally now!)

Whatever Will Be, Will Be (Que Sera, Sera) - Doris Day.  My mum looks a lot like Doris Day and she used to sing this and dance with us when my brother and I were little.

so many! a lot of my musical taste is inspired by what my parents listened to.

first of all, my mom is a huge elvis fan and my dad is a huge beatles fan. i guess my dad controlled the car stereo tho, because whenever we took road trips, we were listening to the beatles =). he also loves harry belafonte and classical music.

my parents also had a lot of motown record albums. i specifically remember the christmas ones!

what i think of as "their song" is "i'll be loving you always" by frank sinatra. my dad gave my mom a jewelry box that plays that song.

a musical memory that my sister and i share is a mixtape that my parents played in the car when we moved from north dakota to louisiana. it was a four day drive and they played this mixtape over and over and over again. my sister and i were only four and six years old at the time, but we have very distinct memories of the songs on that mixtape. whenever we happen to hear the songs, we say, "awww, it's a moving song!" i'm probably missing some songs, but these are a few that were on the tape:

When I was small (7 and younger)  my great grandparents were still alive they lived almost 3 hours north of where we are close to the canadian border .... we would go up there alot and The "Footloose"  soundtrack always reminds me of those road trips because me and brother used to always ask my mom and aunt to play it .... we could only take so much Barry Manilow and Kenny Rogers .... so I know every song on the footloose soundtrack by heart ;)

Wildfire - Michael Martin Murphy - reminds me of my dad, shortly after my mom left us, we started going on camping trips, and we would listen to Michael Martin Murphy tapes on the trips.  I love this song.

I remember my mom loving Karen Carpenter, so "Rainy Days and Mondays" always makes me think of her.

"The Rose" reminds me of my whole family :)  All us girls sing it at Christmas time :)

"Centerfield" by John Fogerty, any YES songs, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Jason Castro all remind me of my dad :)

Any Phil Collins song reminds me of my mom... And that one song when I was a young teen... I forget who sings it but it's "Come on ride the train.." Yeah... I don't know.. lol!

TigerGirl OMG we have such similar musial histories!!!  Michael Martin Murphy reminds me of my dad too!  I went to see him in concert with my dad and constantly listened to the CD after the concert and my friends always made fun of the song "wildfire" and so that's how I got my screen name!  (It's been wildfirej29 since freshman year of college!)  I remember you saying you love the Man From Snowy River soundtrack too!!!
