What to do with the dress?

What did you do (or are planning to do) with your wedding dress after you the wedding?

We have so little space in the closet so I'm tempted to try to sell it. Though in the past I've had to throw out some memorabilia from my childhood because I didn't have a place to store it, but now I really regret it.

I'm having whatever dress I choose shortened into a summer cocktail dress. I know my potential daughter will probably never want to wear it so I may as well get a few more miles.

I'm on the fence to Margaret. It's hard to imagine selling it after all of the blood, sweat and tears that went into finding it.

I like the idea of having it to show to my daughter (if I have one) at least. It was pretty cool to get my mom's dress out of the box and play around with it once I started the process. But then there are also no guarantees that you will even have a daughter. I'm looking into using a piece of my mother's dress to make a patch for mine. I'm not 100% on this, but it's what I would like to do.

Your dress is gorgeous and desired. I think you could easily sell it.

Anyway...just some thoughts.

I really don't know what to do with it - it's really expensive and I don't wanna just sell it... maybe I'll keep it for my daughter, if she wants to use it.. (I have a 12 year old)... I was talking to my mum today about HER dress, my parents married 40 years ago and she kept her dress. But unfortunately it got stained during storage, so my sister and I used it when we were playing... Finally I got to use part of it when my mum made my prom dress - and it looked really beautiful!

I also asked her for the price...she paid $58 for it in 1967 ;)

While I love my dress, I simply can't see myself saving it. I was lucky enough to find mine on eBay for a much better price. I'd love to give another bride the opportunity to afford it. Plus, if I were to sell it, it would help me pay all the bills that comes with a wedding!

Can you tell I'm not that sentimental? hehe

In the olden days, brides used to wear their wedding dresses on their first anniversary. We're already planning to have an anniversary party (it'll also be FH's 40th birthday) and I was thinking of wearing my dress. It's an evening dress anyway, so I don't think it would be odd. I really haven't heard of anyone doing that, but I kind of like the idea. I love my dress so much - I don't want to pack it away and never wear it again...

I sold mine immediately after the wedding (after having it cleaned of course). It was good to get it out of the house and to get some money back in. I tried it on so many times before the wedding that I was sure I wouldn't try it on again afterwards...No regrets, after all, I got to keep the husband and that was the point of the wedding :-)

Margaret, good question!!
I have been wondering this myself! So, it's three months after the wedding and I feel like I want to sell it. I really don't have a place for it... and it's one of those things were I almost feel like it is sad to have this beautiful dress in the closet where it will basically never see the light of day again! Plus, I feel like I'll feel better having sold it, because it was a splurge in the first place. But... Even though I'm not particularly sentimental, I'm really wondering if I won't regret this later.

It has been 5 months since our wedding. I sent it off in August to have it cleaned and preserved at National Gown Cleaners. Now I am having second thoughts about keeping the dress. Like many others have said, what guarantees are there that you will have a daughter and secondly, what if her body shape/size is much different??

Looks like I won't see my gown back until April. That is how long the process takes at National Gown Cleaners. I guess I will have that much time to think about it. Like tahoegirl said, I wonder if I won't regret it later if I sell it. Hmmm....

I love my gown and I loved the way I felt in it, so I've decided to keep mine.

I did think about selling it, but it's questionable whether the tire dust on the skirt will come out (I just sent it to be cleaned), and even if it does, selling it would be a bigger headache than it's worth for me. It's a fairly popular style that's been around for a while, and I'd be lucky to make back much more than the cost of cleaning the dress. So I might as well keep it for the memories!
