My PW checklist says I should be registering now, but isn't it a bit early? Especially with Christmas coming, it seems almost pointless to do it because everything will be sold out!

But I want to do it soooooo bad! haha

you could, but chances are a lot of things might be out of stock or discontinued closer to the wedding, and also stores carry a lot of stuff right now that won't be available after the holidays.....

if you choose to register now, i'd only go with kitchen essentials/appliances that will always be available....then add bedding/bath stuff after the holidays....when the spring stuff rolls in.....this is what our registry person at Macy's told us....

some places - like sur la table - hav a list of their 'everyday" items that are not promotional nor are they seasonal - they are items they always have...

i think 4-6 months is okay - as long as it's before your first shower

just dont reg for holiday/seasonal stuff and you'll be okay ;-)

and READ their return policies carefully!

I do think you should register a few months before the wedding, because your shower will be close and people will buy of that for both the shower & wedding.

HOWEVER, if you have my mother... hehe... she wants a list for everything like 6 months ago, she like to be on top of that stuff. Therefore I have a "wish list" of items that I know are never going out of style anytime soon. Example Le Creuset cookware, seriously I would be happy for that to be on sale :) Since the hoildays are approching I did add somethings that will go on sale fairly soon (incase mom shares with FMIL)

We registered about a month after we got engaged because my sis was throwing us an engagement party and people were asking where we were registered.  I also knew that my bridal shower would be before Thanksgiving.

Mrs.P2be... We registered and we aren't marrying till June either.

Reason we did it is BECAUSE of Christmas and any other celebration (birthdays, etc.)

FI and I know a lot of things will be on clearance, as jackieg pointed out, but then you can grab your own things too once it falls on the clearance rack :)

FI and I are starting out with just about nothing... Hence why we registered early.  We have already received things off our registry as gifts for Easter, birthdays and anniversaries :)  But, we DO plan on returning to the stores a month or so before the shower and add more things that may have gotten erased due to sales. :)

We registered last  month because he was leaving to Iraq again, so I wanted to make sure we got it done together incase he got detained for longer, but we will probably go back and update our stuff in early january when all the xmas stuff is gone.

I started right away this way it gives you plenty of time to see what you need and if you come across something else you want you can add it.
