For those of you who eloped and then had a big wedding, do you feel like it took away from the big wedding ceremony or were you still emotional?

FI and I are thinking of eloping in Vegas and then keeping it quiet and having a big wedding with our family.

most def does NOT take away from the big day - i dont understand the thinking behind this -- i guess it's all in the mindset??

if you think it's going to take away - then it will

if you look forward to the bigger celebration - then that is the one you will focus on

ETA: we've been married for 3 months now - and keeping it secret has been delicious! =)

we have been married 8 months already..and the "big wedding" is may of next year....i know we will still be VERY emotional on our big day :)

I wanted to have a secret ceremony. But FI wasn't too crazy about the idea.

We eloped almost 4 years ago and had an intimate civil ceremony with the JOP. None of our families were able to make it because they weren't available. It give us more reason to have a bigger celebration for our vow renewal :)

we did and I'm still super excited about the big wedding I don't think it will take away from the big day.

I'm not trying to be rude so PLEASE don't take it that way. I just want to understand why people do this? Is it just that you want to be married so badly that you don't want to wait? This is just completely out of curiousity and I'm not judging at all.

Sometimes it's for financial reasons. Different states have different laws and if you don't want to go through the trouble of signing a pre-nup you can get married in another state and have laws that keep each of you protected. Another reason is just to have a special moment just between you and FI.
