Why does everyone decide they HAVE to lose weight for the wedding??

For me, I just want to look back on my wedding photos and like what I see.  I don't particularly like the weight I am at now and need to change it whether I was getting married or not...the wedding is just helping to motivate me.  But I know, no matter what weight or size I am, my FI loves me for me, right now, just the way I am :)

Cameras add ten pounds so you'll look heavier in pics than you really are.

For me this weight loss goal isn't to starve myself on a stupid diet.  I fell of the workout bandwagon when my Dad suffered a heart attack about a year and a half ago.  I also got really busy with school.  The wedding is just a source of motivation for me to get back on track to exercise and to eat healthier.  My FI and I also plan to start a family soon after the wedding and so I would also like to be physically healthy for the sake of the baby.

for me the last year or so i've gained weight i believe from switching bc it was too coincidental that i gained so rapidly after. im not big but for my build im overweight and bigger than ive ever been. ive been trying to lose weight for a while but the wedding has kicked into a higher gear. i just want to look and feel like myself again and not be out of breathe from walking up my stairs to my condo.

I agree, a wedding is a good motivator.  Not everyone decides they need to lose weight for it though, that's a bit of a bridal stereotype.  And honestly, losing weight does not change who you are.  You'll still be the same person on your wedding day at 120 pounds as you would be  any other day at any other weight.

Not everyone wants to lose weight for their wedding......I didn't. Definietly a bridal stereotype as brianne said.  I think that most just want to look their absolute best on their wedding day :)

Honestly to look good in the million and one pics that will be taken that day and around for years to come. Sounds superficial, but I think its true.

I barely worked out for my wedding. Just did my normal routine. The thing that cause me to drop some weight was all the stress. That was unexpected!

Personally when kids start asking if you are pregnant and telling you that your legs are big...I figure that's a great time to start hitting the gym!! yes I know...OUCH!

I haven't encountered anyone in real life who has done this. But the wedding industry in general targets brides in magazines and on websites and basically tells them that they have to lose weight or else they won't be attractive to their husbands and families. But wouldn't your fiance already love you for who you are to begin with? According to the wedding industry, they don't. Doesn't make any sense.
