wood floors versus carpet

We're thinking about changing our apartment from carpet to wood floors. Wood floors are easier to clean than carpet right? They look nice and all the new homes in the area seem to have wood floors. On the other hand, maybe carpet is more comfortable?

Carpet is definitely warmer.

Carpet is warmer but wood floors look prettier. I'm not sure if wood floors are easier to clean though, because stuff can get stuck on your feet if you don't wash it for awhile.

I like wood floors in the common areas and carpet in the bedrooms.

An aside - my puppy loves wood floors - and they were great during housetraining. Also nothing beats a slippery floor + dogs for hours of amusement.

I love my wood floors. They are beautiful and fubctional. My dog sheds so much carpet is really awful for us. Wood floors are more durable and also make it easier to change your decor because you aren't locked into the color of the carpet. They are also great for resale value as well. At least accoeding to HGTV:)

I think that wood ends up lasting longer than carpet too. If you don't mind the scratches and upkeep.

Ditto on the wood floors over the carpet. You can always throw a lush rug on top of it. Wood floors just look more classy and clean to me.

Ahhh... DH and I are constantly having a debate over this. Hard wood floors or carpet? I love carpet because I love sitting and lying on the floor a lot, and I would hate to sit on the hard wood floors. DH loves hard wood floors because he said it's easier to take care of, plus we have 2 long-haired cats and he has bad allergies, hard wood floors will be much better for him! But right we have all carpet in the house (except for the kitchen and the bathrooms)! =)

I like the look of hardwood but hate when it's sticky/dirty. I don't think it's any easier to clean, probably have to clean more often to keep up the look. People have said that you can use a swiffer and it's real easy but I haven't tried yet. I like the feel of carpet on my feet better than hardwood, but I wear slippers most of the time. My house has hardwood and carpet where carpet is in the bedrooms and hardwood in living, dining, and kitchen. They both have their advantages.

Hardwood for sure. I'm not a big fan of carpet (for a number of reasons, including allergies) and much prefer the look of wood. I find it to be pretty easy to clean actually. Vacuum + mop!]

Having said that, I don't like it thoughout the whole house. Hardwood for bedrooms and living areas. Tiles for bathroom, kitchen and landry :P
