This caused me loads of anxiety when we were set to deliver in the city. It actually was one of the deciding factors to get me to switch to a hospital in the suburbs. We probably would have sprung or the private room but at 900 PER NIGHT combined with the not so warm feeling we got fom the hospital in general, we didn't give it a serious thought. I hope you can come to a decision you're comfy with.

As little as our hospital is, we even have full private rooms, even if we didnt I know I wouldn't pay for the extra.  I'd send DH home to get a good nights sleep and send the LO to the nursery so I could get some sleep too.  I couldnt justify spending that much money and like the other girls said, maybe you will deliver when it's not full and you won't have a roomie or you'll have another new mom you can bond with.

I work in a hosptial on labor and delivery in GA and we have a few rooms that could be used as semi private rooms but we rarely rarel have to put two women in 1 room. My biggest thing is its not very sanitary..unless there are two restrooms. After delivery its very messy TMI ALRET- when we help women to the restroom alot of time there is a bloody mess on the toilet afterwards ...id rather not have to call housekeeping in everytime I needed to use the restroom to clean up..kwim??

I tend to be very private and am not the best at sharing personal space, but I don't think I personally would pay the extra $900.  My sister and 2 of my 3 SILs ended up needing c-sections (all delivered at different hospitals and with different drs, so it was not that) and spent the extra night in the hospital.  All were in labor for almost 24 hours before that.  Though I am guessing that you would be in a labor and delivery area beforehand and only moved to the room after delivery, it just seems like it can get expensive fast. I'd rather have that extra money for something I needed more, even though I might be miserable that day or two.

Luckily the hospital that I will be delivering at only offers private rooms. However, if I had the option, I personally would pay the extra $900 to have a private room for bonding & comfortability for DH & our new baby. Getting used to our new environment as a new little family will be interesting enough on its own, and I wouldnt be thrilled about sharing a room with a whole other family...

DH and I still haven't decided on this yet...  It's probably going to be a last minute decision thing.
