Do you remember it?

Well my first week of work.... holy SHIV am I tired. I just did my first three in a row. I am beat-every night I am asleep by 930! I use to be here on PW til like 2am! Im so tired. My feet hurt- even in the danskos- but I do have to say my back does not hurt one bit. So I have really messed up stuff but they are all learning lessons... I also have done some cool stuff- did my first fowley cath-on a woman. got it the first time! woo hoo! ( I had no idea what I was looking for and didnt know that the urethra looked like that. The lil old lady ( who didnt know that was my first one) said that was the best she has ever had put it- and that I was super gentle. woo hoo. Day 2- some pt wrote a star card on me--- he loved me. lol. I also have done some first instinct things like- pt having SOB - u know HOB 90...o2...

or when my pts incision of  an old jp drain busted today and blood was shooting out- literally like streams... first think I did was grab gloved and started holding pressure- made they werent going to faint- then called for help. haha day 5- all this has happened. its been crazy- I never thought medsurge would be like this... it is NON stop!

I am liking it- not in love yet!

THis all sound familiar? Well tell me about yours?

My first week was actually kid of routine and boring but I was happy to have it that way!  There have been plenty of stories since!

OMG I totally missed this post!! Congrats on your first week! Sounds exciting!!

hmmmm...do I remember my first week in the ICU...not really anymore but I do remember how scared I was when I first started!! i hated not knowing who any of the nurses or doctors were and where everything was - plus I remember thinking how freaking overwhelming all the monitors and IV pumps and vents were!

I do remember that toward the end of my orientation I could not wait to have my own patients!
