The wedding videography was provided by Cavalier Videography. They were outstanding! They also do court reporting videos and more of a documentary style. Some videographers do more of an artistic presentation, showing a button being buttoned for 1 whole minute while music plays or whatever, but we wanted something more straightforward. They had showed us a sample video which we really liked, and the video we received (very quickly) was excellent.

The honeymoon was at Wintergreen ski resort, near Charlottesville. The only accomodations up there are rental condos, through various rental agents. The one we used was http://www.rentalsatwintergreen.com/. It was an ideal honeymoon location, my daughter and her husband enjoyed hiking in the woods, going to the restaurants up there, and just sitting on their balcony enjoying the view. It's a great place to get away from summer heat; on the hottest day of the summer you will need a sweater up there at night. The condo allowed them a full kitchen so they were able to have some meals without going out. It's a beautiful location; there are open air concerts throughout the summer, and of course skiing is available in the winter.

We booked a hotel block at the English Inn Hotel. This hotel has a large indoor pool, and some really spiffy new suites in a new building. Breakfast is included and coffee and cookies are available all afternoon. The prices are very reasonable; many of our guests stayed there and loved it. It's very convenient to downtown and University of Virginia campus locations.

The mothers of the bride and groom, 4 bridesmaids, flower girl, and bride all had their hair done at Salon Cielo, and it looked wonderful. We were satisfied with the service provided and the skill of the stylists. They accommodated the wedding party beautifully.

The rehearsal dinner was held at Maya in Charlottesville, VA. The service was a bit slow, and when one child had a meltdown and his mom took him back to the hotel, they assumed the other child left too and didn't bring her food until someone complained. But, the food is outstanding and there is a really nice private room that holds up to around 35 people.

Barbara Taylor Moore provided the ceremony music. She was on the approved list for the chapel and was great. She fulfilled her role to perfection.

The Save-the-Date cards were purchased from The Lime Tree. The staff was very pleasant and cooperative; they carry all the top brands, like Crane's. Our cards were beautiful and error free.

The wedding ceremony was held at Newcomb Chapel at the University of Virginia. I would give it 5 stars, except that there is little to no parking right there; there are 7 spaces that can be reserved, otherwise guests must park in the University parking garage by the bookstore which is a bit of a walk away. The chapel is quaint and is beautiful inside. It needs little to no decoration to look pretty. People made remarks about the air conditioning beforehand and we were worried, since it was an August wedding. But, it was fine. Also, it can be used by anyone, even with no UVA connection. There are discounts for students, alumni, faculty but the rental rate is not that outrageous, $700 if you have no connection, $350 for faculty/staff and their families, and $200 for students or former students. It is in high demand and must be reserved a year ahead.

The University of Virginia Alumni Hall is expensive, but beautiful and private, with plenty of parking. They do provide tables and chairs, although many people rent chairs because the provided chairs have a blue cloth print and gold frame and they don't go with everyone's color scheme. Some people believe only those connected with the University can use this site, but actually anyone can. UVA alumni get a price discount, however. It must be reserved 1 year ahead and is in high demand.

We had always loved the food at Hotcakes, and a friend was happy with their wedding catering. They did not provide the food we asked for, and after the fact had many excuses, 1 item was a mistake, another they changed to something they thought was nicer. When asked why that was not cleared with us in advance, we were told that they didn't want to bother us with a lot of calls. When it was pointed out that the bride's mother was in the shop the day of the wedding, they had no reply for that.
Their position seemed to be that they would serve what they wanted to serve, and the customer should be glad to get it.
The Cake was also from Hot Cakes bakery and cafe. We give the cake 5 stars; the cake was delicious and received many compliments. They will give you one of the best cakes in town but are not up to doing a dinner. Sad to say we had so many issues with the dinner--the several menu changes and mediocre service tainted our experience with this vendor.
