Upon review of Wendy's portfolio and after tasting her delicious cakes, it was apparent she would have no problem duplicating the simple design we provided for her. Unfortunately, our Wedding Cake dreams turned into a nightmare when the cake she delivered looked like it was constructed by a two year old. A wooden dowel was sticking up 1/2 inch from the top, the square layers were rounded, the entire cake leaned 15 degrees to the right, the fondant was sliding off the cake and puddling at the base, the bottom two layers were buckling under the weight of the upper two layers, and the third and fourth layers had separated by 1/2 inch in the bottom left corner. No apology was made, nor were there any attempts made to repair the cake's appearance. We were forced to cancel the traditional cake cutting as the cake was in no shape to be publicly presented. We were, however, able to serve the cake from the kitchen, and it tasted as delicious as we'd hoped. Three days after our wedding, when no effort had been made by Wendy to contact us, we emailed her photos of the cake and asked for fair compensation. Wendy states the damage to the cake occurred when the driver was forced to slam on his brakes to avoid hitting another car and offered only $100 off the $400 purchase price, stating the damage was due to "an act of God" rather than failure of the driver to maintain a safe distance between himself and the car in front of him. Negotiations continue to be pending, and Wendy has only gotten nastier, accusing me of wishing her husband (the delivery driver) had gotten into an accident "and then there would be no cake". In short, if you don't mind taking a gamble, don't care if your cake makes it to the venue in one piece, and don't mind vendors who have no problem making their problems your own, go for it. If not, do yourselves a favor and book a vendor with more experience and the chops to professionally deal with problems as they occur.
Our wedding is still over two months away and the vendor I have been most literally BLOWN AWAY by is our Day Of Coordinator, The FABULOUS JACLYN TRAN!
I am a worrier by nature. And not just a normal "worrier", but an obsessive - compulsive - ulcer inducing - nail biting to the bone - toss and turn with nightmares all night - paranoid - worrier. From the moment I met Jackie, I knew there would be nothing to worry about on the most important day of my life.
For starters, she is the ONLY DOC I interviewed who is as detailed oriented and organized as myself - which is truly saying something!
She has magical calming powers which can induce a state of Zen in even the most frazzled Bride.
Ninja like, she can blend in to the woodwork one minute, then strike with precision the second another vendor starts to get out of line.
She has always gone above and beyond.
I may have hired a DOC, but feel like I've gotten so much more!

Like many brides, long before meeting Mr. Right, I'd envisioned exactly what my wedding dress would look like - glamorous, sexy, chic. Unfortunately, when the time came to go dress shopping, NOTHING I tried on looked good on me. I am 36 years old, 5'2" and 160 pounds with a flat chest and big booty. Despite assistance from employees at several local dress shops, each time I tried on dresses I ended up leaving disappointed. All around me were people gushing at size 2 twenty-somethings with huge boobs in princess dresses. I didn't get that. I felt fat, ugly, and old despite the fact I KNOW I am none of those. Discouraged, I ended up purchasing the first dress I DIDN'T look horrible in and tried to make myself love it.
Fast forward several months to the Tacoma Wedding Show. I was only going to scope out photographers, however the first booth I passed happened to be Weddings With Joy. While casually browsing the clearance racks, I happened to mention my dilemma to one of the employees manning the booth (who's name unfortunately I do not remember). Within seconds, she'd pulled a dress and had me in a makeshift dressing room trying on "THE ONE"! Not only did it fit perfectly (well, with the addition of some chicken cutlets in the boob region), it was everything I'd dreamed of - glamorous, chic, sexy, AGE APPROPRIATE. I stepped out to the mirror in the open area and for the first time since I'd been engaged, I heard "Oooohs!" and "Ahhhs!" from total strangers directed at ME! Not only was the dress perfect in appearance, it was 15% off the already reduced clearance price! When asked HOW she'd done it, the employee shrugged and responded, "I've been in the business for a long time, I guess it's just experience.". I, however, think it was MAGIC!
