I recently had my Wedding At The Palace At Somerset Park. I wanted to share my expereince with others. When I first saw the Palace with my mom, our sales person did a great job of showing us the Palace. He explained how the whole night would be from cocktail hour, the beautiful bridal suites, introductions and uplighting in the Ballroom.
One thing that stood out was how he commented on the staffing level. He stated that we would have 1 server per 10 guests. When I heard that, it became the deciding factor. I thought what a special touch for my guests to have that extra special attention. I looked at other Banquet Facilities and even though some were beautiful, they never made that promise.
On the day of my wedding, my maitre d'was great. He was very professional, attentive and went out of his way to ensure that we had a good time. However I noticed that my event seemed like it was short staffed. During cocktail hour there was only 3 servers passing drinks, and 2 passing food. This was not the image that was portrayed to me from the sales person. The maitre d' was even passing food to my mom and dad. I think he was trying to hide the low staffing level from us. When I asked him about the amountof employees, he did a great job in using his sense of humor to hid the fact from us. It worked! We went straight back to having a good time.
However as the night went on, you can tell that the promised amount of employees was not there. I didn't say anything to the maitre d' because it was probably no fault of his own. We loved him!
It made us think that the Palace might say anything to get the sale. So I wrote this to future brides out there. Be careful when you speak to your sales person. If they promise you a ratio of 1 server per 10 guests, make sure you get it in writing. Or even better see if you could work directly with the maitre d' that will work your wedding. Not to get into it, because overall I did have a great wedding! However it seems like as soon as they took my check, that nobody returned my call.
Also if they offer you a lighting package don't take it. It's a waste of money. I had an amber gel on the columns and you could barely see it.
Overall it was fun day specifically because of the maitre d' and bridal attendant, just be careful with what promises made by the Palace!
