My husband and I agree with DomerJenC that "the photos Gary took were generally of great quality." In fact, we were so happy with all the photographs that it was difficult to narrow down our favorites for our album. So, why only three stars? The problem we ran in to with Gary was his attitude...I have to admit that there were a few warning signs from the get go: a hint of arrogance in our meetings, a written request to be seated with our guests during dinner before we even had the opportunity to make the offer, and almost all of our vendors expressing slight dissapointment that they would have to work with him. However, we felt that he was the best photographer in the South Bend/ Michiana area and were thus willing to overlook these things. In many ways, despite being happy with the pictures, I wish we had paid more attention. We ran in to a problem after my husband and I were not able to get our album ordered before the contracted date for a particular price. To be fair, I should state that we did ask for a two week extension and Gary generously granted it to us. However, we ran in to a few road blocks and were unable to get our order in before the extension was up. In addition to this I must be fair and state that we also had some difficulty making a post wedding appointment - my travel schedule for work kept changing and this was frustrating to him. However, we never asked Gary for another extension. We never asked for a discount. We told him in writing that, "at the time of our wedding believed that we only owed tax [for a pre-paid album]. We hope that this is still the case, but if not we of course understand." In other words- if he has to charge us more we understand because we signed a contract. I cannot even describe how rude his response was to my last attempt to try to arrange a meeting time except to say that he accused us of trying to take advantage of him. He was cold, cruel, insulting, and stooped so low as to repeatedly make an issue of the fact that we were not financially able to invest as much as most other couples in our album. Unbeknownst to him, I was so upset after our last conversation that I cried. It was horrible. He was horrible. My husband and I really are nice people. We wouldn't take advantage of anyone for the whole world and we sincerely believe that we did our very best to convey this to Gary. We made a good effort to get ahold of him and to resolve the conflict as soon as we got wind that he was irritated with us. I am still not sure excatly what upset him so terribly. If you're a bride with thick skin looking for a talented photographer in the Michiana area with at least $2,000 free to spend on your wedding album alone then Gary might be the photographer for you. If you don't have thick skin and, like me, closer to $1,400 to spend on your album alone I wouldn't recommend him. Your wedding should be a wonderful, happy time. Do everything you can to eliminate stress. Make a better effort than I did to choose vendors who do quality work AND whose personalities click with yours. This is the first review I have ever posted online. The thing that truly prompted me to do so was that Gary's concerns made me feel like he had been round these issues with lots of other brides. If that is true then it's probably important for someone to speak up.
