They have a great selection of wedding supplies here, which is great for brides that are trying to save money and make their own wedding favors and such. The have cake toppers, and silk petals, and DIY invitation kits. We had bought our wedding favors elsewhere, but this is where we got the materials to make our wedding guest book. We asked that guests bring in a picture of themselves with me or my husband, or a picture of us together, and them we left them a table with the supplies to glue in the picture. It was really cute, and it worked really well. Hobby Lobby has great guestbooks, too, and there are lots of sizes and styles to choose from. I wanted a really nice guestbook to remember the day, and my guests were amazingly nice about making it happen.

We will be going on our actual honeymoon this August, but for our actual wedding night we decided that we would stay in a nice hotel in the downtown area. The Hyatt is great, we booked a room over the phone and requested the romantic suite. The room was huge, and there was a great big bathtub to soak in. Everything about the room was fancy! The bed was also super comfy, and it felt great being somewhere so nice! His parent’s offered to buy us supper at the hotel’s restaurant, the Eagle’s Nest, which gave us a panorama view of the city. The restaurant has a breathtaking view, and it’s worth it just to check it out. We spent most of Sunday sitting by the pool and the Jacuzzi, which was really nice. We left on a Monday.

This was the gift that my sister gave to me! For my wedding day a Lincoln town car picked me and my bridesmaids up from my parents’ house, drove us to the church, and then drove my husband and I around to take pictures. It was a really nice way to get around town for a few hours. The Lincoln car was beautiful, it looked really sleek and we felt very glamorous driving around. The driver let us drink champagne in the back, which was also nice. The driver was great about stopping, and seemed to know the best and the fastest way to get places around Indianapolis so that we could see everything.

It was nice that my parents offered to host the rehearsal dinner on the eve of the wedding, but we knew that we wouldn’t be able to make all the food ourselves. We bought huge trays of deli meats, fruits, and vegetables from Marsh Supermarket. The trays are very generous, and a plate that is meant to feed 24 people can easily feed 30 people. We also bought dollar buns and drinks from there. The nice surprise was that my mom also ordered a “congratulations cake” for me and my husband. It was chocolate with vanilla frosting, the really sweet kind that I just love. We were able to feed over 50 people for about $200, which was great.

We were going to make the invitations ourselves, but we calculated that the time it would take us to make the invitations, along with the cost of supplies and ink, we might as well have them made professionally. My husband and I actually bought two 50 set kits from Michael’s Craft store and returned them once we realized we would not be saving money with this project. We contacted Gloria, who is a friend of a friend. We weren’t sure how we would feel, but we loved her! She is really talented, she listens well, and she understood that we wanted something simple, but beautiful. She made us these flip-book type invitations, something that I thought was really unique. The quality of the paper of the invitations, which she ordered in, was far superior than anything we had seen at a craft store. I appreciated her advice and consultation, and I think she’s a great person to work with.

The Omni Hotel Severin is beautiful, it’s really old and a place that is full of classic beauty. There are these big chandeliers everywhere, and a great lobby, too. We went to look at the Omni Hotel as a possible location at the suggestion of my parents. They wanted a place that could accommodate dinner and dancing, and that would provide the menu, too. I agreed that it was better to have a place that could do it all rather than try to piece it together. The Severin Ballroom is beautiful, but it’s really for a party of over 200 people. The manager at the time, Maureen, explained that it was really for 350 guests. We only have 120 guests confirmed, so we opted for the smaller ballroom. I think this was still a great choice, because we got the same gourmet menu and service that the Omni hotel provides, the manager was excellent in helping us making choices and decisions, and they helped us take care of every last detail.
This was where the wedding reception was being held, and we made steps to make sure that a block of rooms were booked for our guests. We were given a room free, being the bride and groom, but we turned that room over to my husband’s parents so they could spend the night. The guests that did stay there said they loved it! The rooms are very fancy, and it feels like your going on a wonderful vacation. I also think we got great rates for the rooms, which were in the $150 range, but considering that you didn’t need to worry about driving, I think it was worth it.
I got some quotes from florists on how much it would be to have centerpieces made for the tables at the reception. I was really, really surprised by how much it cost! I wasn’t ready to spend $500+ dollars on flowers to make a room look pretty (to make me look pretty, I could understand). I found out that the ballroom would let us bring in our own candles, and so we started looking into candle centerpieces. I found on craigslist another Indianapolis bride who was married in June and wanted to sell her centerpieces. They were a mixture of candles in these big vases with stones. You could fill up the vases with water and put floating candles in them. They cost here $40 a piece, but she also assembled them herself, and she was willing to sell them for $20 a piece. I bought all twelve, and then just sold them recently from $10 a piece on craigslist. They looked great, and I was so happy I found the seller. I also want to say that I contacted at least 4 other people who were selling wedding supplies on craigslist, and they were already gone. The good stuff goes fast.

My sisters and my best friends were going to be my bridesmaids, and I had decided that I wanted non-traditional bridesmaids dresses. I really disliked the dresses that I saw in the bridal boutiques, and I wanted them to get something that was more fresh and young. They chose a bright color palette, and they ended up finding and buying summer dresses on sale at J Crew. The J Crew at the Fashion Mall is great, they had a great layout in the store and the staff is really professional there. The store is also always busy. The dresses looked great! They could be dressed up or down, and the girls didn’t mind buying the same dress because they all knew that they could wear it later. My favorite part was when they didn’t have a dress in the size we needed, they offered to call other stores and order it in. I think that was great of them!

I loved this store. I had a great time shopping here, and I think they have a great selection no matter your size or budget. I was able to find the dress that I loved, which I really was beginning to think would never happen. I had tried on so many dresses and had been to so many bridal boutiques that I actually walked in thinking that this store would be like the others. The place just has a great vibe. The staff is honest, they left me alone when they saw I was a little frustrated, and were really happy for me when I said I loved the dress. I only care about the price tag when I’m getting something just for the sake of having it, but I loved this dress and didn’t care how much it cost.

We organized a girl’s night out and planned to go paint cups and plates. I wanted to do something fun, I also wanted to do something that didn’t involve alcohol or going to a bar. I was never that kind of girl, so to avoid being dragged to a bar I made plans instead. Everyone had a good time! It was very PG-13, they let us order pizza and then those than wanted could have soda or wine. Most of my friends love crafts, so they got into it right away. The one thing to remember about this place is that you pay by the amount of time you’re there. When we were booking they also told me that I needed a minimum of 8 guests, or that I would have to pay a minimum of about $100, which wasn’t that bad. We were able to finish in the four hours we booked, and then we went and saw a movie.
