I wasn’t a fan of getting a limousine, but my father suggested that we rent nicer town cars just because the cars would be clean and we could have reliable cars the whole weekend. I think this was the smartest decision! Hertz was great! We rented two town cars, which we needed to reserve ahead of time so that they could bring them in. We also found that having nicer cars made it easier to get guests from the airport and bus station. Driving a nice car is so much easier in town! Also, my dad said that we should rent the car for the whole week, and that was also a good idea. We were able to pick up supplies and other things with the extra cars.

I thought we would have been able to collect plates and glasses from garage sales for our wedding party, but in the end it was just easier to rent all the dishes and flatware from a rental group. My husband took care of whole section. He and I made a list of what we would need, and we got the bare minimum. We got the tent in case it rained, but it was nice having the tent up because it keep the warm air in once it started to get night, and it also kept the bugs out.
We had trouble picking out rings, but finally I found this jewelry/welder who made some of the most amazing rings. My husband and I both loved what we saw online, so we contacted her and found out more. We got our fingers measured in Rochester, and she had our rings ready for us in 6 weeks. The rings were beautiful, gold and silver and bronze metal all woven in together. The rings have held us, and we get lots of compliments on them.

I was going to make the invitations, but in the end it was cheaper and easier to have them made. I think the store was very cute, I was happy that we could support a non-chain store even though we were using label cards. I think the staff there was phenomenal; I was in a bad mood, and they walked me through it, they just gave me time to look through the cards they had in stock until I found one I really liked. I really appreciated how nice they were, especially since they must deal with crazy and moody brides all the time.

part of the reason why we wanted a small ceremony was so that we could have the ceremony at the Warner Castle. It’s beautiful. It was hard to get, and we did plan to have a long engagement so that we could get married there in summer. The staff makes sure you know all the rules, and they might be a bit rude, but it’s because they care about the place. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. I can’t say enough, it really feels like a magical place when you step in.
Being near a Wegmen’s is awesome, because they are the nicest grocery store you’ll ever visit. They also do catering, and they will deliver for big orders like the one we place. We had the reception at my sister’s house, and we had the party catered by Wegman’s. They have amazing plates and trays, and they also had seasonal dishes. I liked going this route, because we were able to get lots of different salads and dishes for all our relatives that are on different diets. We also found that if we still calculated $20 a person, we were able to get so much more food. Also we didn’t have to face the menu limitations that most hotels were offering us.

My husband and I don’t usually eat sweets, but we really loved our wedding cake. The cake, which was expensive, was a present from his mother. We went in for a consultation and they kept feeding us samples of chocolate and vanilla cakes and cookies. It was a very decadent 15 minutes, and in 15 minutes we had decided on chocolate cake with white buttercream icing. It was made to feed 100 guests, and we had 80 guests, but it was all gone by the end of the night. I wish there would have been more of it left over! The cake was so good. Really fresh. And it didn’t taste like chemicals.

I wanted something really simple and earthy, and my sister and I found common ground at J Crew. My sister is more fancy and didn’t want to wear a second hand dress. I really felt out of place at the store, but I did love their simple designs and the fact that the clothes were made out of natural fabrics. It was also a pretty calm atmosphere in the store, which was great. My bridesmaids complained that the dresses were too simple, but it was to my taste and I loved it. I have since then bought three dresses and a skirt there for myself.

My mother and sister brought me to the Perfect Rochester Wedding Show, and I thought it was going to be horrible but it was actually nice. I did find some vendors that sold organic cakes or glutton free cakes, and they did have some eco-friendly wedding ideas. I think the highlight of the day was when I won a set of wine glasses. Overall, I think this is a crowded venue, lots of people, but the people there were nice. And my sister, who fits the role of girly-girl, loved it.
My friends sometimes give me a hard time for shopping here, but I find great finds and I also like the idea that I am helping to recyle fashion. They do have formal dresses, and I think the Goodwill on Clinton avenue has the best seletion of dresses. I found the most beautiful wedding dress here! It was a Waters brand name, and it was $199, which I thought was expensive but I bought it anyway. When I brought it home and showed it to my sister, she found the actual tags that said this was a 2008 model dress, so it had not even been worn.
