This was where my boyfriend proposed to me and became my fiancé, and so our families wanted the chance to spend the day where we had gotten engaged. It was actually a great choice for our rehearsal day because many of our relatives and friends from out of town were able to see the beautiful exhibit they had going on. The museum itself is also stunning, and if we could have afforded it, this would have been our reception venue. We also wanted to eat at Puck’s restaurant, but I didn’t feel comfortable having relatives pay so much for a brand name meal. The IMA café is really sweet, just like every other café that we had been to when we visit museums. We contacted the manager and explained that a big group of us would be arriving to eat there, about twenty of us, and while he couldn’t reserve us a table, he didn’t mind when we pulled tables together. It’s regular sandwiches, and drinks, I remember that some people paid $2 for one yogurt, but it was peaceful and a fun place to be.

I love my husband, but he is perhaps the most boring person in the world when it comes to clothing. He actually just wanted to wear a nice button down shirt, and I more or less had to beg him to wear a suit. He refused to wear a tuxedo, saying that it would look out of place at the park where we were getting married, and then at the family casual reception hall we had rented. I was happy that he bought a suit, though. I liked Men’s Wearhouse, though I think the style is rather safe. He was fitted, he looked great, and he wore the suit for the wedding and for our one-year anniversary.

I wanted to have professional make-up done for my wedding, and I wanted to have someone who could professionally apply the make-up. I know most brides think this is a silly expensive, and will cut the make-up artist if they’re trying to save money. The truth is that I don’t have great skin and I needed professional help making sure my color was clean and smooth. Karalee was wonderful! I was given her contact information from a co-worker, and she was really nice and cheerful over the phone and in person. It was about $200 for me, which included the consultation and the fact that she came to my house to apply the make-up. My sister also had her make-up done for about $60, and Kiralee made my niece feel special by putting a little gloss and blush on her, too. She was very professional and gave us all her attention! I was really happy with Kiralee, and she will be doing the make-up for my younger sister at her own wedding.

This is a very sweet store that is run by a great family, and they did an excellent job making our wedding invitations. We needed over 150 invitations and RSVP cards, and there was no way I was making them myself. It is a small store, and it’s not a chain, but they have years of experience in making invitations, from modern to really traditional styles. I was happy that we were able to get something to suit my tastes and my mother-in-law’s tastes, a women who is a bit on the fussy side. They spent hours with us showing us samples until we were happy! I really recommend them!

We wanted to have a theme honeymoon, or to have a trip where we did something fun and romantic. Money was kind of tight, so we wanted to stay in the United States and maybe only go somewhere for three or four days. While we were debated what we should do the tour dates for the Dave Matthew band were announced, and we knew we wanted to see him play live again. We looked online to see where we could get the best tickets, and then booked our trip around where the show would be. Houston was great! We booked a romantic suite at the Four Seasons, which was great! It’s a nice hotel, probably the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in. Everything about the room was plush and nice. We were also really central to the downtown area, so we could walk around and check out the city while we were in town. Seeing Dave Matthews was great, and it was a great experience to see it in another city, too.

I love the City Market! It reminds me of some of the bigger markets that I visited when I traveled through Spain and Italy. Depending on the season, there’s always great fruits and vegetables to choose from, along with beautiful in season flowers. I decided that I would make my own bouquet with season flowers that I would buy from a local seller, just because I love making flower arrangements at home in vases when I buy flowers from the City Market. On the Friday before the wedding, I bought several bouquets from several different vendors, though I do remember that Reuben & Rebecca Brubaker were one of the vendors. They have great produce and beautiful flowers. I mixed up where I got the flowers from, but because they flowers were local they all sold the same thing. The flowers stayed fresh, I kept them in a bucket in the fridge, and I made my arrangement the next morning. One thing that you can do to keep your flowers fresh is to add sugar to the water, which was a tip I got from one of the vendors.

I was really, really proud of our favor idea! My fiancé used to be a DJ when he was in college, and he loves music! He’s a big fan of buying and burning cds, and we’ve been making mixed cds for each other for the longest time. For a party favor, we decided that it would be nice to make cds of our special songs for the guests, and wrap them in a custom made sleeve. We bought 200 blank cds from Wal-Mart for less than $40, and then we bought this nice brown paper to make the sleeves. We also bought glue and markers to write on the paper, as well as paint. It took us two weekends to come up with the compilation, then FOREVER to burn 200 cds. It was not an easy task! It also took a long time to fold all the brown paper into sleeves for the cds, with the special drawing (we scanned and then printed the picture on the paper, once I realize how much time it would take to draw on each one). It was a hit! People loved their gift, especially when they realized it was music. It was useful, and we get compliments all the time on how good the cds was.

We decided that we would hold a ceremony just for family members and close friends outside at a Park, because we knew that the weather would be beautiful and also because we felt, spiritually, that we needed to be outside when we said our vows. We wanted, in some way, the whole world to hear us when we said our vows. Eagle Creek Park is a perfect location, I got ready at home and then met my friends and family members there. I knew we could have shown up and have gotten married outside pretty much anywhere, but we wanted to make sure we had a good place so we went ahead and rented the facility that they normally set aside for weddings. It gave us access to a shelter with a fridge and tables, and bathrooms, which was perfect. It’s not expensive, I remember that it was less than $400 for four hours. I also remember that we weren’t allowed glass, so we brought lots of plastic cups so that our guests could share in a toast with us. The park officials are really nice and helpful, and the city person that took down our booking was also very nice.

I would have given the store 5 stars if I would have found my wedding dress here, but it’s a great store and I think it’s worth checking out. I live in Indianapolis but my parents live in Carmel, and I drove down so that I could go dress shopping with my mother and sister. They have a super cute selection of flower girl dresses, and we bought one for my niece. We actually spent over 30 minutes looking through the flower girl dresses just because they have a great selection and because the dresses were so cute. This is also where my sister found her bridesmaid’s dress, from the prom section, on sale. The store has a great selection in dresses, and it was much better than any wedding dress chain store I’ve visited. My younger sister is getting married this year and this is where she bought her wedding dress from! I really love the staff, they’re friendly and patience. It was worth the drive, and it’s worth calling to find out about their trunk shows, too.

It’s not exactly the easiest store to reach, but I went here at the suggestion of a co-worker who had lots of great suggestions on where to get wedding supplies and such. I had been to David’s Bridal and I had been hugely disappointed with the selection there. This may sound naive, but I wasn’t aware that David’s Bridal only carried their own brand of dresses. Bare Necessities is more like a hodge-podge of wedding dresses and formal gowns, which is perfect for someone who likes to go vintage or second hand dress shopping. Most of the dresses are brand new, they are just surplus. I found the most beautiful vintage looking dress, all lace, that was in my size. I was thrilled when I found it, and bought it the same day. This is not the store for someone who doesn’t like disorder; the staff is great and will help you find something if you describe what you want in general terms. I recommend this store for the adventurous bride who wants something different.
