While their prices are reasonable, they openly discriminate against photographing same sex ceremonies. For couples who support gay marriage, civil unions, or equal rights, you may not want to choose this vendor on principle. Their contract states that, "Outer Banks Photography Inc. reserves the right to refuse service for any reason." In response, they stated, "We pass! Unless you are over the age of 18 and if your our the same sex. No commitment ceramony of the same sex. This keeps me from getting any troubles on my views on marriage. Just one of those things we wish we did not have to do in life." Eek! Like many other states, it isn't illegal in NC to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation, but we thought it revealed intolerance and an inability to separate religious views from professionalism.

Bells and Whistles is a woman-owned florist that has their own local, seasonal fields of flowers. In looking at their website, their products look artsy but the execution isn't always good. Their quote was approx. the same as the highly recommended florists in the area. While seasonal, local, woman-owned items are highly, highly important to us, we were more confident in another vendor. They are a new business.

This is a great place for accommodations. They have fantastic staff there and their rooms are great. They have some great prices. They are located in Corolla. Good for guests who are staying just a couple of nights and do not want to rent a house. It overlooks the sound. They don't have a room "block," but you can put 1/2 down on rooms and they'll let guests call in and take over the reservation. All the rooms have their own personality. They're really nice there. You can see the Whalehead Club from their decks. Every adult guest gets a bike. There's a little bus/shuttle thing that takes you to the beach. Very near shopping.

The Elizabethan Gardens are GORGEOUS and would make a fantastic, beautiful ceremony and reception site. It is in Manteo, which is an island, and, while there's some water, it's blocked off by a gate and fence. Other problems were that there are a lack of quality accommodations around there. They recommend 1st Colony Inn, but it's really not that great and the owners are just frat brothers who refer to each other... nice though. Did I mention it was beautiful?

Currituck Club is basically a golf shop with a dining room, bar, and outdoor area. You can't see the sound or the beach from there. There's a great outdoor space that is covered for dancing. They offer buffet/stations for a good price. We didn't choose this place because it lacked character. It is just a regular country club-type atmosphere. The prices are good though and the staff was really, really friendly. The top wedding planner suggested this place as a great rehearsal dinner place, but it's pretty pricey for that. It leaves a classy impression, but we're more casual and un-classy, so it didn't work for us!

They have a small private room and can accommodate larger groups in their main dining room (although that is less private). They are flexible and can do family style, sit-down, etc. Some of their entrees require an extra fee. They are also flexible on the bar (offering certain beer/wine, total open bar, etc.). We originally wanted something that could accommodate a large number of people, but budget-wise and because there's a lack of such venues, we settled on this. The prices are reasonable and the menu choices are good. People in the area speak highly of this place.

I tried to work with this caterer, but they weren't very amenable to answering questions or making special requests. They have a great reputation for providing quality, standard wedding food, but we were looking for something unique, not stuffy or traditional.

Their pictures are so cool and they totally cut me a deal because they would already be in the area. This would be a great choice for couples who are young, fun, nontraditional, and who have a little bit of money to spend. Unlike the other photographers in the Outer Banks area, this amount of money lasts for the whole day, whereas other peoples' packages for a similar price will last for like, 2 hours.

Blooms is highly recommended by every OBX vendor and their mom. They have been great to work with. They have come down in price from their initial quote. They can put up lanterns for $400 under a tent, which is worth it instead of having your friends and family try and wing it themselves. I am not excited about spending money on flowers that will only be worn for 1 day and they have worked w/my budget (although I did end up spending more than I though I would). They have some great ideas and you can tell that they genuinely care about the quality of flowers and decor at weddings.

Their food is fantastic asian fusion tapas. They are a family run restaurant and catering business. Delicious food, good prices. Sometimes they take a while to respond to phone calls or emails, but hopefully their prices and taste of their food make it worth while.
