Julie of Bijou Events is a terrific planner. She walked us through every step of our wedding planning and was always available by phone or email. She was never overbearing and always reassuring; these two attributes are a real plus when a bride is panicking about whatever wedding detail. Her ideas for the wedding were generally very smart -- We really liked the vendors she recommended (with a couple of notable exceptions, but that's life), and she helped us add some fun details to the ceremony and reception. She thought of everything and had great advice about traditions, timelines, finances, etc. She is able to be at once flexible and a rock. A rubber rock? I don't know. Anyway, she's to be recommended highly.
If you are planning a conventional, chicken dance, "everybody get out on the dance floor and boogie to '80s hits"-type reception, this is the dj for you. If you want something unique and classy, stay away. Danny assured us, when we met with him months before our wedding, that he understood our desire for an Ibiza/lounge vibe at our reception. He also said that he understood that we wanted no dancing (besides our first dance and father/daughter) in the reception area (we had a band waiting upstairs for an all-night party). We returned his paperwork with very simple, clear instructions that there was to be no pop, no booty-shakin' favorites, etc. -- just Ibiza/lounge for dinner with an extra setup in the courtyard to keep the slow vibe out there later. Over the course of the evening, we got Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, and Edith Piaf. Then, after dinner, he played a bunch of pop and got our guests dancing, distracting from the $2500 band upstairs. During our dinner, as he was eating his vendor meal, the music went dead silent at least twice. This was repeated (no idea why) later at night in the courtyard -- dead silence, Danny nowhere to be found. When I complained to him, both at the reception and later, in writing, I got a "whatever" or no response. There are so many djs in LA -- Why choose one who comes off as smooth but can't handle himself on the actual day?
