The tough thing about picking a DJ is you don't really know what you're getting until you're right there at the event. We liked working with Admit One, but the DJ we got (Dave F.) gave us a lot of problems. He did not play the songs we selected for our entrance, the cake cutting, or the anniversary dance. He did not even tell us he didn't have the cake cutting song until immediately before, so we couldn't even select an alternate song. Admit One told us that if for some reason they couldn't find a song we had selected, they would contact us and we could send it in, but no one contacted us. Also, Dave F. seemed to have real problems with announcing our group dances, like the Chicken Dance, the Dollar Dance, and the Anniversary Dance. So he did not play songs that were important to us that we selected, and he was bad at announcing. (Aren't those the reasons you have a DJ in the first place?) But then a few days after our wedding, I heard from a couple of my bridesmaids (2 separate incidents) that he tried to start a fight with their husbands over a parking space before the reception even started! He was a bad DJ and a jerk. I've heard other people have used Admit One and gotten a good DJ, so maybe we just had bad luck. But considering how much money we spent on the DJ and the reception as a whole, I would not have taken the chance on using Admit One if I knew they staffed such bad DJs. Update 12/2/2010 - After we submitted our comments about our DJ to Admit One, the general manager reached out to us and tried to make it up to us. Although he couldn't go back and change what happened at our reception, it means a lot that he followed up and tried to correct issues to keep our experience from happening to other couples.

I used Ruth for alterations for my wedding dress: taking in the straps, hemming, and putting in a bustle. The dress alterations she did with the straps and the hem were beautiful and fit perfectly. The bustle, however, quickly proved to be a problem at the reception, as all of the little ribbon ties she put in to hold it tore out within an hour of the wedding reception starting. The fabric of the dress was heavy, and the stitching she put in simply did not hold. That meant I spent a good 45 minutes of my reception in the bathroom trying to fix the bustle with needle and thread and safety pins, just so I could do our first dance without tripping over my train. She is very nice and reliable to work with, but the bustle she put in proved to be a big disappointment.
