The hotel is so romantic, historic, and beautiful. It’s average priced and well located. The rooms are tastefully decorated and full of modern conveniences. The Restaurant Taquet in the hotel lobby offers the most delicious food. There is also a cozy bar and in the warm weather, porch dining and drinks. We loved staying here on our wedding night and would like to do it again – just for kicks.

This was such a great experience! The food was delicious and the people were wonderful. We had a private room and although it wasn’t fancy, it was really nice. The price was reasonable for the amount of food we received and they treated the kids great. There was a live musician as we were leaving, so the whole wedding party and our families all stayed to dance and have drinks. What a fun time!

Groom’s tux was free with the rental of the bridal party tuxes at Iacobucci. The quality of the garments was impeccable and the price average. We were treated like their only customer even though it was prom season and I’m sure they were quite busy. We also had trouble with one of the groomsmen. He left his shirt at home and didn’t have time to go back for it. Mr. Iacobucci himself pressed another one for him and had it ready for him to pick up – and – did not charge us for it. Wow!!

We met with the DJ beforehand to give him a list of songs we wanted to hear and a list of songs we didn’t want to hear. We even made him CD’s. He didn’t use our CD’s though, yet still managed to play most of what we asked him to. But we had to remind him a few times: “we haven’t heard that one yet…” He also had these cheesy-looking “cauldrons of fire” on the DJ table that my mom was having a fit over. She finally asked him to take them off the table. He seemed offended at that. His price was good though and he did a nice job officiating the reception.

Cake:
My wedding cake was the one thing about my wedding day that makes me sad. The country club where we had the wedding offered a cake as part of the package. And the pictures they showed looked beautiful. So I signed on for a 3-tiered white cake with very pale pink trim. What I got, looked like a 5 year old’s birthday party cake. We peeked into the reception room during cocktail hour and I thought my husband saw a mouse by the way he reacted. He ushered me away from the door so I couldn’t see the cake. There was an argument with the banquet manager, and a refusal to help, so a friend of ours, who was trained as a pastry chef, bombarded the country club’s kitchen and proceeded to fix the cake. It ended up being pretty, but it’s a shame it had to be fixed in the first place. So if you book your reception at Paxon Hollow Country Club – beware of their cakes!!!
Reception:
My wedding reception was held at Paxon Hollow Country Club. We paid $85 per person and this included 4 hours of open bar and a choice between beef or chicken. It also included our wedding cake and a desert table that we had multiple arguments with the banquet manager about. Apparently, their signature item is their dessert table. So during your reception, they dim the lights, light sparklers, play some music, and wheel this thing onto the dance floor. I saw something similar to this when I went to go see “Tony n Tina’s Wedding” on Broadway – which is a parody of an Italian wedding. I asked if this could just be skipped for my wedding. They had a real problem with this. Insisted that this is something they do there. I said, “Well, for this one time, can you just put the table in the corner and we’ll have the DJ announce that desserts are now available?” No. This was a problem. Back and forth until they finally agreed - but I had to insist. But the night of my wedding, around dessert time, the lights dimmed and I saw a dessert table begin to be wheeled out of the kitchen. My sister saved the day and ran over and had them stop – but if she hadn’t – they were going to go through with their sparkler-dessert-a-palooza – even though I insisted they don’t. They argued with us over everything. And for $85 a plate? It’d be nice to get what I asked for without a struggle.

We were one of about 6 bridal parties there that night. But it was fun. Packed house! Live band – great music! Irish music downstairs, cover band upstairs. Appetizers were delicious and the drinks were great too. Parking is impossible though – so carpool or hire a driver.

Expensive night out, but the best time those guys have had in a while! Amazing restaurants, great casino, beautiful surroundings. Only drawback is that it’s NOWHERE NEAR the boardwalk. Sort of a disappointment to find that out. Had to take a taxi to the boardwalk.

Alterations:
Not only did the David’s Bridal alterations department hem the layers of my wedding gown to different lengths, they refused to admit it, fix it, or refund my money when I literally cried to them about it. I’ve went back and forth with them for about 1 year after my wedding, considered small claims court, but eventually got tired of fighting and gave up…which, I bet, is what most people do and is probably why they keep getting away with doing what they do. I had to take it to a local tailor to get it fixed. USE local, reliable tailors for alterations!!!
Bride's Gown/Bridesmaid's Gowns:
Gave it a 2 for the dress selection and a 1 for alterations. Had such a bad experience with these people that it’s hard to be objective – even though I LOVED LOVED LOVED my wedding dress! I liked that the trim on my gown could be complimented by bridesmaids’ gowns that came in the exact same color. It was really beautiful. But the salespeople weren’t interested in helping us and we pretty much found everything ourselves. If I had to do it over again, I’d get my dress there because it was inexpensive, but I’d go elsewhere for alterations.
