I was SO excited to go to Kleinfeld after religiously watching "Say Yest to the Dress." I left sorely disappointed. I made an appointment, and my friend and I took the bus up from Philly. We waited for about 20 minutes for our appointment with Jacqueline to start (she was running late). She brought us back to her assigned dressing room, and she curtly asked me what I wanted in a dress. I showed her photos from the Kleinfled website of some of the dresses that I liked. When she brought them back, as soon as I'd put on a dress, she'd say "No, that looks bad." Who's to say it looks bad? Shouldn't I be the one to make that decision? She wasn't very congenial in general, and my friend and I kept wanting to ask the manager if we could change consultants. It was only after I showed a lot of interest in a dress that she became sugary sweet. It was obvious that she was there just to look for a commission. Gross.
I ended up buying the same dress from the Amsale flagship salon (also in NYC) the next day because this woman left such a bad taste in my mouth. There was no way I was going to buy this dress from her.
Yes, they have a big selection. Yes, I'm sure a lot of the consultants are very nice. Yes, it was fun seeing TLC filming. But yes, I couldn't wait to get out of there.

My husband and I set up an appointment with Portos a few months before our wedding. While I absolutely love some of their pastries (guava cheese puff, yum!), we weren't as impressed with their cakes. Their white cake was dry, and their yellow cake was pretty much what you expect from boxed yellow cake. The carrot cake was way too sweet for us. Plus, the designs seemed a little outdated. They seem to do most of their work with buttercream. The person that attended to us was very nice, and you pretty much can't beat their prices though (I think ~$550 for a 3 tier cake for 150 guests). We didn't end up going with Portos for our cake, but if you want a simple, inexpensive cake, I would take a look.
Even though we didn't love their wedding cakes, we'll still go back and get our cheese rolls, guava cheese puffs, and potato balls on a regular basis.
My husband and I just received our wedding photos, and to sum it up, they are INCREDIBLE. Jerry and his team are masters at what they do.
Just by going through some of the photos on Jerry's blog, we knew he'd be the perfect photographer for us. Jerry and Ingrid flew all the way to Philadelphia (where we live) to do our engagement shoot. Despite it being over 90 degrees outside, they were upbeat the entire time and made us feel incredibly comfortable. It's insane how creative they are with lighting and with making seemingly banal locations come to life in photographs. We loved our engagement photos, and were so happy with how non-cheesy they were! Ingrid even designed a photobook of our engagement photos for us, and we used it as our guest book at our wedding. Our guests loved it!
Our photographs from our wedding far surpassed our expectations. My mom was afraid that our ceremony would not photograph well because we were backlit the entire time by the strong afternoon sun, but Jerry and Ingrid did an amazing job working with our poor lighting. They were able to capture the emotion of the day perfectly without being intrusive at all. They have such natural instinct and an incredible eye for composition and color. They also provided a photobooth for us with a clean white backdrop, and their associate Terence did an amazing job keeping all our guests laughing with our crazy props. We would be honestly be happy to frame any one of the photos they shot because each one has such a unique perspective.
The utmost professionals, Jerry and Ingrid are easy-going, super-duper nice, genuine, funny, quick to respond to emails/calls, and most importantly, ridiculously talented at what they do. Seriously, they are just amazing.
Kristin did an AMAZING job with our wedding. My jaw literally dropped when I saw our gorgeous, full, lush flower arrangements. As someone who LOVES flowers, I was ecstatic!
After sending her numerous photos of the types of arrangements I liked, we had a meeting to discuss the general mood of the wedding and to bounce around ideas for how the flowers should look. She then sent me a proposal complete with cute hand-drawn mockups of different possible arrangements to allow me to visualize what we had discussed. We instantly booked her without seeing any other florists, because we knew she would do a fantastic job from looking at the work she had done in the past and how she had handled our initially meeting (not only is she a great florist, but she is a genuinely nice, friendly, sweet person!).
She drove all the way to Pasadena (she's located in the OC) for a planning meeting to take a look at our reception location and get a feel for the space. Since I was planning the wedding from across the country, my mom went with our coordinator to her house to check out a mock-up floral arrangement that she had designed. After seeing photos of the arrangement, I gave her a couple suggestions and these were beautifully incorporated. Plus, she was able to perfectly balance the differing opinions of my mother and me (a task that is NOT easy). A couple weeks before the wedding, I had a new idea to have a driftwood head table arrangement - she embraced it fully and it came out exactly as envisioned. From start to finish, everything went so smoothly. At the wedding, I received SO many compliments on the flowers.
Kristin is so gifted with her artistic vision! Both my new husband and I agree, without Kristin's work, our wedding would not have been the same. She literally transformed our venue, and we can't thank her enough. She made my floral dreams come true and I highly highly recommend her!
