The people that work at this store are so nice and helpful! They helped my fiancé and I decide which suits would look best with our bridesmaids’ dresses, and made sure that my husband was comfortable and liked the way he looked. We had lots of out of town groomsmen, but they handled all of it, even picking up the tuxedos at the hotel after our wedding. They suggested that everyone come in to try on their own tuxes and then quickly took care of any alterations that needed to be done. They were great – affordable and attentive to our needs.

Andina was a perfect setting for our rehearsal dinner. We had a large wedding party and an even larger family, so we needed a big enough space to accommodate us without breaking the bank. The recently redecorated upstairs room (formerly the bar Apotheke) was gorgeous, and featured its own kitchen and bar so that we would not have to compete with the busy restaurant downstairs. The service, both before the event during the planning stages, and during the dinner, was professional and attentive. The food was exceptional – interesting and delectable, and pleased every palate at the table. They attended to every detail and made the night run smoothly. It was a deliciously intimate evening, enjoyed by all.

The most fun band ever! We had such a blast and we know our guests did, too. Five guys? Try more like nine, plus three gorgeous female singers/dancers. They had guitars, horns, drums, keyboards, and great singers. They played lots of funk and disco, got everyone up on the dance floor, and even encouraged people to join in and sing if they wanted to. They were not the cheapest choice of musicians but far from the most expensive. If music is a priority for you, as it was for us, they are the band to choose. They were fun without being corny, and they played long sets to help keep the party going. They are the reason my seat stayed empty all night – every song was perfect for dancing!

Josey was such a pleasure to work with. My fiancé and I wanted cupcakes, but also wanted a small cake that we could cut and feed to each other at the reception. The hitch: I have Celiac’s disease which is an intolerance to wheat gluten, meaning no regular flour in our cake! Josey did not blink an eye, and accommodated us with regular chocolate cupcakes for our guests and a little cake that I could eat on top of the beautiful tiered plate. My photographer took lots of pictures of them because they were so pretty! And the taste? The cupcakes got RAVE reviews, and my-hard-to-please husband who usually shuns all things gluten free, was a huge fan of the cake. I was in seventh heaven. I in no way felt deprived as I often do at dessert time! I won’t even tell you the price for all of this, but I will say that it was fully HALF of what we were quoted at two other bakeries in town!

The day that I met Linda Wolfson, catering manager at Jake’s, I knew that we would be taken care of as if we were family. She went over every little detail of the wedding to make sure she was clear and then worked diligently to make it all happen. She invited me to come by any weekend to see the set up of other weddings (I took her up on it a few times – I learned a lot by seeing what other brides did!) and answered any question I had immediately. If she was unable to return a call or email, she made sure someone else did. Trying to save money, I made my own table arrangements, but as the day drew closer, I realized the task of assembling the centerpieces might be a little more stress-producing than I had realized. Linda immediately offered to take care of it, and she and her staff assembled them, probably better than I could have myself, and then packed them all up carefully at the end. The whole staff at Jake’s was wonderful, anticipating our needs before they happened. They were warm, friendly and professional. They truly were a huge part in how remarkable our wedding day was.

I looked at several venues around town, and this one was among the most beautiful, and then when I got their price quote I was in love! The hotel is beautiful, and the ballroom, recently restored, was just story book perfect. Jake’s bar and grill downstairs was also a great place for our guests to drink and dine between wedding events. The only trouble we had was in making sure our guests got the special room rate when they called to make their reservations. We had to call several times to adjust the rates of out of town friends and family who were not offered the special rate. It was just a matter of a communication problem with the reservationists, and it was easily remedied, but it was a slight inconvenience. Other than that, the venue rooms were gorgeous, the hotel rooms were quaint and well-appointed, and the staff was very friendly and courteous. Now I wish they would get rid of Starbucks and put a local coffee house in the lobby!

Using Eco Shuttle was an affordable and eco-friendly choice that worked out really well for us. The church and the reception were about eight blocks away, which might be too long for women in high heels or our older guests, so we decided to get a shuttle. Wanting to use something that wouldn’t be a total waste of gas, and wouldn’t break the budget, we chose to use the Eco-Shuttle van, which went back and forth between the two venues several times to get all of the guests safely to their destination (it ended up being a wee bit chilly, too, so just about everyone took the shuttle). On its last trip, it picked up the wedding party and photographers and took us to a scenic spot for pictures, and waited for us there, even though that trip took us just a little bit over our allotted time. They are a great company to work with and proved that they were willing to go the extra mile to make our experience great.

Photography is a big expense, but if you can get an exceptional photographer, it is well worth it. We saw many photographers who did great work but were just too far out of our budget. But Jessica Hill, very much within our budget, had the best work we’d seen. From seeing the photos of other weddings and events she’d shot, I knew that she had just the aesthetic we were looking for – artful, fun, romantic. She and an assistant were there for every moment of our day, but were completely non-invasive. I gave her a list of the “must-have” shots and she got every one of them and then some. During the reception, she set up a laptop at the back of the room for people to watch a slideshow of some of the pictures she had shot earlier. That little taste made me even more excited about our photos. The first thing she did after the wedding was to post on her website a few of her favorites of the day. They were so gorgeous, I couldn’t believe it! Then a few weeks later, she posted a longer slideshow with music. I was blown away. The song was perfect, and the presentation transported me right back to that day, and I had to watch it again and again! Then we got all 1400 or so photos she shot that day, and we were both so amazed that she had captured all of the best moments. We’ve gotten so much positive feedback from our family and friends, too. We are so pleased to have this lasting record of such a happy time.

Quinn is the woman who sells flowers inside City Market on NW 21st Ave. Designing wonderfully creative and inexpensive arrangements from locally grown flowers are her specialty. She made the flower arrangements for my engagement party, my rehearsal dinner, and also all the wedding flowers – our bouquets, boutonnieres, and altar flowers. I was very honest with her about our limited budget, and she never once tried to push for us to spend more than we were comfortable with. And the flowers were gorgeous – rich, fresh, elegant, and understated. The price was so below any other quotes I had gotten I nearly fell off my chair. She is no nonsense, and she is wonderful to work with. To help keep costs down, I offered to have someone pick up the flowers from her store, but she said that she would prefer to deliver them herself, to make sure they were handled with the utmost care. She had the perfect blend of professionalism and creativity.

My fiancé and I wanted to have a religious ceremony, but didn’t want it to be too reflective of either his faith or mine. The historic Old Church was the perfect venue. No longer home to a congregation, the Old Church is a superbly restored 19th century building that is open to anyone who wants to rent it. It is perfect for small and medium sized weddings; no one wants the church to look empty if your guests number under 150! The ornate pipe organ not only makes for a beautiful focal point, but still sounds beautiful. With rental of the church, you get a wedding coordinator, in our case a gentleman named Barry, who knew how to keep our large wedding party in line, and kept everything running smoothly. In advance of the wedding, they provided us with the contact information for all sorts of vendors and clergy that they would recommend. My bridesmaids and I got ready in a beautiful anteroom, and the boys waited for their cue in a basement room. All of our guests commented on how beautiful the church was, and it made a lovely backdrop for many of our photographs.
