There was a huge mix up with the original engagement ring. At first, my fiancé proposed to me with his belated grandmother’s ring, which his grandfather had given to him. Then his mother found out, and was hurt because she wanted her mother’s ring, and had actually been looking for it for years. There was some drama, but I happily gave his mother the ring because I thought it was more important to her. My fiancé felt horrible, and I guess that’s why he bought me a Tiffany engagement ring while we were on vacation in Denver. I was actually shocked! We had been there for three weeks, and on the day we arrived he secretly went and selected a ring. I always associated Tiffany’s with really stuffy jewelry, but my fiancé knew me well and got me the simplest engagement ring. He said he picked Tiffany’s because it was the only jewelry store name that he knew of, and looked them up in the phone book. When we got back to Indianapolis we had our bands made there, too. They are efficient and professional, and I guess we’re paying for quality.

They have a great selection of high quality invitations and card sets, and I love the fact that they even have a line of eco-friendly cards. The eco-friendly collection doesn’t look like a traditional wedding invitation set, but the color of the paper is really vibrant and the quality is really superior. I decided that I would hand write our cards, mainly because I was an art major and I have really great penmanship. I thought that my parents-in-law would be upset or think that it was tacky, but they actually loved the idea. They thought that a hand-written message on a beautiful card was much more elegant. I remember that Papyrus did offer the option of having the message printed on the letter, and they even have a great collection of beautiful stamps. My fiancé was great about helping me to label and keep track of our guest list. I made a schedule where I would write out 15 cards a day, plus the RSVP card, and I was done in about two weeks.
I really think that Event 1 DJs were a great group of people to work with. My favorite part in our meetings was talking about all the songs that we wanted to hear during our wedding. Everyone has such different tastes in music, so at Wes’s suggestion we asked our parents for lists of their favorite songs. Wes also had a great playlist, and played fun and upbeat songs all night. He’s also a great DJ and announcer, and was really respectful when asking people to get on the dancefloor. I think he has the toughest job at the wedding, because the DJ is really suppose to set the mood. We were happy and we loved having him as our wedding DJ.

We’re sill taking dance lessons! We started taking dance lessons a few months before the wedding, in the hopes of having mastered a romantic dance for the wedding. My husband, always the comedian, was always joking during the lessons but finally became serious and mastered a few steps. The instructors were great! I liked the dance lessons because it’s something that I always wanted to so: as a child my mom thought it was more important for me to know how to play volleyball than dance, so I was never on a dance team. Our instructor emphasized that we could dance if we wanted to, but my husband finally told me he hated the lessons. As a wedding present to me, he actually told me he was joking and signed us up for two more years. The whole staff at the studio has been amazing, and I love that we go there once a week. People get hooked! It’s been two years of dancing, and I think we both agree that everyone loves a good dancer at a party. We’ve never been as cool now that we can rumba.

My husband’s parents have a beautiful house which sits right on a lake, and we thought right away that it would be the perfect spot for a wedding. I think we were really lucky and his parents were really excited about the idea. They have held parties at their house before, and right away contacted Best Rental for a Frame Tent, a floor, and a dance floor. I was suggesting we go with whatever was cheapest, but I found out that paying more for a nicer tent, such as the frame tent, makes the evening feel nicer. We were able to get everything we needed from Best Rental, including a beautiful linens and an arc and pretty much everything. They have a show room that I went to with my fiancé and his parents, which was able to give us a good idea of what they have in stock and what we could use. I think going to the showroom is a good way to see what they have.

Since our wedding, Indy Anna has catered two more events for my family, and we just love the excellent food they provide us. They have an incredible range in their menus, too, and I was impressed at how they had really gourmet appetizers, and then a plated meal that was hearty and really tasted like good home cooking, and the late night snacks that were fun. They are also really helpful with helping us plan the time line of our wedding. They have worked alongside the Best Rental team before, so they had no problem getting the food ready at the wedding itself. Everyone raved about how good the chicken was, and they also had a great vegetarian option for several of my friends. I loved how they made sure that the meat and the vegetarian plates stayed separate. I think that kind of care and consideration can only come from people who love their jobs. I can’t wait until we can have them cater another one of our events.

This is a great place to go shopping for delicious decadent food. We opted out of getting just ‘one’ cake because we couldn’t make up our minds over the flavor, and instead bought trays and trays of cookies and treats from Whole Foods. The bakery department is excellent, and the manager at the time was wonderful. We explained our idea and our budget, along with the number of guests we were expecting, and she helped us come up with the most amount of food with the greatest variety. I really recommend the almond cookies. Her suggestion also included chocolate dipped strawberries, which was a little pricey but it just looked so fancy on the wedding day.

One of my bridesmaids got her dress at Frankey’s, which is this really nice and fancy store on 86th street. She got a Nicole Miller dress, and the other girls loved it! My friends usually don’t care what they wear, but I’ve noticed that since college and since we all started working in our profession, the importance of fashion has become more evident. One of my friends actually found a similar Nicole Miller dress, though it was from 2006, on sale online at Nordstrom. We went to the store and they didn’t have many Nicole Miller dresses in stock, but the sales woman was nice about ordering in the dresses for us. She even took our measurements so that we would get the dresses in their sizes; some who is usually a size 8 would be a size 10 for Nicole Miller. Strange but true. My bridesmaids paid for the dresses themselves, and I think that Nordstrom does have a nice selection of formal dresses in stock, in lots of different styles, too.

This is a perfect place to have a lovely lady dining party, or my bridal shower. We made arrangements to come here for a brunch with my mother, mainly because it’s a very chill and laid back café with really healthy and really delicious vegan and vegetarian food. Many of my friends are vegetarians, so I wanted to find a place that would please them, while also finding a place that wouldn’t be too strange for my mom. The staff is great! The owner, Moira, took my reservation and let us bring balloons and a paper parasol for decorations. They have a patio, which is usually nice, but we sat inside because of the weather. We did come for brunch, and I think the pancakes are the best! The coffee here is also very good. I think what made this place special was that it is cute, your feel very invited, and the quality of the food is amazing.

Nicole Miller trunk show at Frankey’s, 1300 E 86th St, Indianapolis
This was a very swanky and special event! From what I remember, there was a representative from Nicole Miller that was coming to the store to showcase some of the new dresses for 2007. I was impressed! This was the store that my best friend normally shops at, and I went with her because she wanted me to see the Nicole Miller collection because it’s that nice! I was impressed! The whole staff at the store did an amazing job putting on the evening, we were greeted with champagne and small desserts, and then the dresses we saw were incredible. I didn’t buy anything, but my friend did buy the dress that she wore for my wedding party. It’s a beautiful store, and it’s near many of the places I shop, I just wish I had more confidence to go in by myself! When I told some members of the staff the reason why I don’t normally shop there, they laughed nicely and gave me a hug. There is really no reason to fear this store.
