Beautiful stone Church in Pylesville, MD
My Grandparent's walked me down the aisle!
This is the reading our Priest gave...we did not know what his reading would be but it was perfect for us!
A philosophy professor stood before his class and had some items in front of him. When class began, wordlessly he picked up a large empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, rocks about 2" in diameter.
He then asked the students if the jar was full? They agreed that it was. So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks. The students laughed.
The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled everything else. "Now," said the professor, "I want you to recognize that this is your life." "The rocks are the important things - your family, your partner, your health - anything that is so important to you that if were lost, you would be nearly destroyed. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else. The small stuff."
"If you put the sand into the jar first, there is no room for the pebbles, and the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your energy and time on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your wife out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal."
"Take care of the rocks first - the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."
Mr. & Mrs.!!! DH says I'm smiling like the Chessire cat in this one!!! I was so happy! :)
Our reception was held at Fiore Winery in Pylesville, MD which was a short 3 minute drive from the Church. We had our pictures taken outside and in the barrell room.
Our First Dance to "Then" by Brad Paisley.
I'm so glad I made the decision to hire classical guitarist Chris Dunn for the ceremony and cocktail hour.
We had a small wedding with close friends and immediate family. Our total guest count was 46...we had the caterer set up 6 tables with 8 seats each.
DH's mom getting down! I love this picture because it shows how much fun she was having! ;)
Congrats to all of the recent brides! It's my first day back at work and now I have a chance to go back through and check out everyone else's recaps and pics and can't wait!
Tuesday (last day of work) we had our final meeting with the Priest. Everything went well except that we had to change the Psalm to be recited instead of being sung because my guitarist didn't have the melody...no big deal. When we got home I labeled my boxes and had everything ready for the caterer the following morning.
Wednesday was my crazy day...I had a meeting with the caterer at 10am to drop off all of my reception items and then had a dentist appointment right after for quick cleaning. After that I took my grandfather to Men's Whs to get his tux and the only issue was the top button was super tight so she gave him a button extender and it worked out perfectly. I needed to wait until today to do my programs because of the final meeting with the Priest the night before. I had purchased the program kit from Michael's but ultimately decided not to make them. I didn't want to stress out about them not looking right or the right words to use. No one missed them or asked where they were and I have no regrets about not doing them. That evening I was finally able to relax!
On Thursday, I started packing for our mini-moon and catching up on laundry and cleaning. I didn't have anything wedding related to do since my caterer already had all of my things.
Friday...That morning Josh and I took a walk around the neighborhood and on the way back he stopped at his car to get a few things out...walking up to the front door he realized he locked his keys in the car! I got a bit aggravated because I had a hair appointment soon! All of our neighbors were at work and our cell phones were in the house. I grabbed a rock and told Josh just to break the window (this is a beater car and he only uses it to commute to work) so he broke the windshield since it was already cracked and needed to be replaced anyway. After we got in the house I called a few glass places and found a great price so while I was at my hair appt Josh had it repaired. If you have difficult hair I highly recommend getting your hair shampooed and blown out the day before the wedding. The stylist that was doing our wedding hair said to have 'day old dirty hair' and not to use a straightener and since I can never get my hair blown out as smooth as the salon does I just had them do it for me!
That evening was the rehearsal and everything was perfect except Josh's uncles were both late...the one reading showed up 30 mins late and the other didn't show up at all to the Church but was at the restaurant when we got there. I decided not to worry too much about it...Josh was very upset though. The food was fantastic though! I recommend a buffet because it was ready when we got there and I didn't want to get home too late that night. After dinner is when we did our little speech and handed out the gifts.
Also, I don't know if you all have an invasion of stink bugs in your area right now but we've had a few come in here at work and some at home but in the Church there were TONS!!!! Climbing on the walls flying around the entrance! One landed on my sister during rehearsal and one was in my grandmothers hair when we were walking down the aisle during rehearsal and she didn't notice but my one BM did and she couldn't stop laughing...I was getting mad because I didn't know what was going on!
The Big Day! I woke up around 7:15AM and took a quick shower. Then I put out the donuts, fruits and pastries out that I bought the previous day. My BM's started arriving at 7:45am. The hair stylist was due to arrive at 8AM and she called a few minutes before to let me know that she was stuck in traffic but would be there in a few minutes...she was only 5 mins late so no big deal! She finished my hair and mu and my 4 BM's by 9:30am! I was super impressed and so happy that we had some time to relax before the limo arrived! At 10:20 we all started getting dressed...the limo was due to pick up my grandparent's at 10:15 and be at my house by 10:30. He called me at 10:10 and was lost! I didn't freak out too much because he was in the right area but just didn't know where to go...it was a little difficult to communicate and he didn't seem to understand where I was telling him to go but he only ended up being 10 minutes late! By 10:45 we were all in the limo heading up to the Church! We were getting married an hour away from home so that's why I had my time line with really no room for error! We got to the church with only 10 minutes to spare! We got out of the limo went into the side entrance and listened to the music for 2-3 minutes and it was time to go! The classical guitarist played air in g instead of ave maria for the BM's entrance and my grandmother got a bit irritated but I was in the moment and told her I didn't care. Before one of my BM's walked down the aisle she came over and told me she loved me and she got teary eyed...I'll never forget it! When it was my turn, my grandparents took my arm and I stood there for a few seconds until I was ready to go...I got a little teary but not hysterical. When I saw Josh's face it made me smile! He had the biggest smile on his face and it was so cute! He looked so happy! When I got to the end of the aisle, Josh came down and raised my veil and told me how beautiful I looked! It was perfect! I took his arm and stepped up on the altar...then the ceremony began and we sat for the readings. While we were sitting down for the readings I noticed a stink bug on the bottom of my dress...I told my sister who was sitting next to me on the side of the altar and she flicked it off! A few people in the audience saw this! lol When it was time to read the vows we both got a little choked up. Josh was teary eyed but was able to recite his vows flawlessly. I had to pause then hurried up and said them because I was on the verge of hysterically crying! It was beautiful! We took pictures a few minutes on the altar after the ceremony then headed off to the winery.
The winery was about 5 minutes from the Church and as soon as we got there the caterer brought us out something to drink and we started taking pictures. I wanted to get inside to see everything so my worry is that we didn't take enough pictures. But I'm so happy with the non-pros that I have that I think the pros that I do get will be unbelievable even if it's not that many! I kept asking my sister how everything looked inside and she said it was perfect! I couldn't wait to see my cake! I had met the baker at one of our caterers tastings and honestly I wasn't impressed...the cake just wasn't that good but it was included in the price so I just went with it. She lives in another state and I just sent her a few pictures of cakes that I liked so I was anxious to see what she came up with. I was AMAZED!!! My caterer set up everything exactly how I wanted and the cake was GORGEOUS!!! It blew me away! Our cake topper was a bit too heavy to go on top and a little wider than the top tier so they sat it in front. I still can't believe how everything came together! I was beyond ecstatic! We ate first (the food was delish) then did our first dance...I cried through the whole song (Then by Brad Paisley) after that we cut the cake and I got him good!! Ladies, if you are thinking about doing this...GO FOR IT!!! However, when you put the slice on the plate make sure you cut it to give yourself the piece with more icing!!! Josh got a little on my face but with the piece he took he couldn't have done too much damage. I, however, had all icing so it went everywhere on him!! I know...not fair! lol All of his friends were giving me high-fives after that! After the cake cutting we took a tour of the winery and had some pictures taken in the barrel room! When we got back to the room the cake had been cut and was ready to serve to the guests. It was the best cake I'd ever tasted! Then the dance floor opened...the best man got right out there and was hilarious...the songs he requested were too funny and he sang along while he danced! After a few glasses I got out there and I usually don't dance but am so glad I did! I know everyone says it but it went by so fast!! We didn't do a bouquet toss, garter toss, father/daughter, mother/son dance and I have no regrets! We did what was important to us and it was perfect! Everyone had a blast and it was the best day of my life!
The best tip I can give is not to stress out the week of...I know easier said than done but the few days before I had plenty of time to relax and at that point I figured there was nothing I could do to change/make things better so I was just going to roll with it and trust my vendors. My BM was surprised at how calm I was when she came over on Friday. Also, don't take on too many things the week of. I was waiting to do my programs then and just decided not to do them at all. They would have driven me crazy! The most stressful thing the few days before is that my phone would not stop ringing! Make time for your phone meetings the week of!
Also, if you are providing the centerpieces, welcome table items...set everything up on your dining room table and take pictures!! I did this for our sweetheart table, welcome table, cake table and printed them out and gave to the caterer so he knew how I wanted things! He sat things up perfectly!
Lastly, many thanks to all of you! You have made my wedding planning process amazingly fun! I can't imagine how these last 8 months would have been if I didn't have you all to turn to everyday! I've had the chance to meet a lot of ladies in person at gtg's and it's just been the best experience during such a wonderful time in my life and I just can't find the right words to say how much I appreciate everything! <3
My bridal shower was hosted by my 3 bridesmaids and the location was a complete surprise. We started off with a wine tasting and then a tour of the vineyards. My sister made the most adorable cupcakes to look like a grapebunch it was just an amazing day! I feel so blessed to have such great friends, family and family-to-be!
