I worked with Amy and she was awesome! It was a combined experience for me from other salons I have visited. They allow you to browse through the selection AND bring you some that you may like. Just with any other bridal salon, go with an idea of what you like. I was able to take pictures, I didn't feel rushed at all and there was absolutely no pressure. She wrote down the style numbers, designer, and price of each dress I liked at the end for me too! She welcomed me to come again another time to try on the dress. It is definitely a small place, and I went on a weekday so I had the place all to myself. I could see how it could get crowded however, which is why you should make an appointment. Happy shopping!!

Kay's Bridal Boutique

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
Overall I had a pretty decent experience with Kay's. I called ahead by 30 minutes to see if they had an appointment time, and they were able to accomodate me. Sandra, the saleslady, was very helpful and nice, and was very genuine in her feedback with which styles looked good or not good on me. Unfortunately they did not have one V-neck or halter style to offer me, which is what I went to look for. But for all you Casablanca and Maggie brides, they have a good selection. When leaving they gave me their own bottled water (interesting huh?) and a couple wedding magazines, which I thought was a nice touch. I've heard some things about other associates, so I can only speak for Sandra. She also was able to tell me about some specials should I buy on the first visit. I'm not sure, but I've heard they may charge for a second visit, so you may want to check on that.

We booked Caroline to shoot our March 09 wedding, as well an engagement session and trash the dress session. She has been great since day one. She responded immediately to all inquiries and was very flexible in meeting our individual needs in her custom packages. She and her fellow photographer, Dan, have a great artistic eye, and suit the couples' style and feel with the post-processing. I also like how she makes an effort to understand the couple and the feel they are going for on the day of. She has already researched our venue and is going to contact our coordinator! You can tell she truly enjoys working with her couples. Also, I feel she offers very reasonably priced packages for the type of work she gives. The minus one star is pending actual review of the product. I will update once I have more information.

Trudy's Brides, Prom & Special Occasions

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
I have a mixed review for Trudy's. It was definitely the nicest in appearance of the bridal salon's I've been too, and certainly had a large selection, however I did feel a certain amount of pressure when leaving the salon. The lady I worked with seemed very helpful and nice throughout the whole session, running and getting me dresses, giving me a large selection of price points and styles, etc. However at the end she told me the dress I liked most was "brand new" (i.e. 2009) and that she didn't know if the designer would continue this particular style since designers see how they sell first, and that the "trial price" it is at right now may change if they sell well. Basically saying that I should make my mind soon. So I take this in mind, tell her I have to think about it and look online, and get back to her. I went online at home and the dress was from Fall 07!! I don't care that it's not brand new, but why lie? With the help of a fellow PW'er whose mother runs a bridal shop, I found out that what the saleslady told me was not true, that the idea of a "test price" is something she's never heard of, and that this particular designer rarely discontinues her styles. But to the saleslady's credit, she nailed my style and found what is potentially "the dress." So for that dress alone I'm going to give Trudy's another try, but perhaps with Marika or Sheryl this time... UPDATE 7/30/08: So I went back today and did end up meeting with the same saleslady. I clarified the fact that the dress was Fall 07 and she looked genuinely surprised. She stuck to the fact that the salon had just gotten it 3 months ago but said she'd check with Trudy. She came back and said she was mistaken, the dress was from 07, but stores didn't get it until 08, and they didn't get it until 3 months ago personally in the store because that's when Trudy decided to pick the dress up from the Fall 07 line. So that's the story with that. After the last visit, I called around for the price and the price they gave me at Trudy's was accurate. So in the end I found and bought my dress here. I definitely recommend weekdays or weekday nights. I had absolutely no problem with either the bridal or bridesmaid departments at these times.

Thai Mai Photography - CLOSED

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
We did an engagement shoot with Thai after his wife, Giao (of QGDesigns), let us know of his services. Giao did my Hair and Makeup for the shoot, and accompanied us, fixing my hair and checking my makeup on the way. It was great! I had seen some of Thai's work with other brides on PW and man, am I impressed! My FI and I talked the whole way home about how awesome it was to have such an enthusiastic, passionate person to work with. He helped with directing us on poses, but at the same time let us be natural. It was such a joyful experience. He worked through the rain and bitter cold to capture photos for us (with no umbrella). How's that for dedication? I can't wait to see our pics! http://thaiphotoblog.com/ Update: 4/10/09 We got our pictures with lightening speed after our session with Thai. He was truly a pleasure to work with. Our family and friends are amazed that he is just starting out, and have asked for multiple copies of the photos. DH is giving referrals left and right! What I like best about our pictures is that Thai got us. He captured who we are in his lens and we could look at the pictures and say....yup, that's us. He got the funny way we laugh, the way DH kisses me on the forehead, all of it. Thank you Thai for such heartwarming pictures and memories. Your truly have a gift.

Giao Nguyen Makeup Artistry & Hair Design

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Giao is wonderful! I went to her for a hair trial, but she did a hair and makeup trial together at no extra charge! She also offered her gorgeous hand-made flowers (she sells these on etsy) to show how they would look. I was very pleased with the result. She really listened to what I wanted, and was very friendly and accommodating. I found communication to be excellent; she got back to me in a very timely manner through email, and I had pictures from my trial the very same day! Her prices are also very reasonable. Her husband, Thai Mai, is a photographer and did our Engagement Pictures. It was awesome having a tag-team as she fixed my hair and checked my makeup throughout the session. I cannot rave enough about Giao. Her creative talents and her joy for her brides are evident as soon as you meet her! I look forward to working with her on my wedding day. UPDATE 4/10/09 Giao is not only a great stylist/artist, she is a wonderful person. She is so easy to get along with, and full of joy. She also understands that brides cannot afford to pay some of the outrageous prices out there! My hair was beautiful the day of...DH was blown away! Giao and her assistant worked very quickly and efficiently on all my wedding party, and she was patient as we were running around crazy =). Due to her great personality, her creative talents, and her reasonable pricing, I predict that Giao will soon be so popular, her dates will fill up. Book now! Thanks Giao =)

Exquisite Faces

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
I worked with Vy of Exquisite Faces for my trial. She was very attentive to my emails to set it up, and really listened to what I wanted. I look forward to working with her on my wedding day! Pics of my trial in my bio. Updated review to come. Update 4/10/09 Vy was so much fun to work with! She was right on-time on wedding day, and was patient with us ladies as we rushed around to get ready. I felt totally at ease while getting my makeup done as she is such an easy person to get along with. She even brought a brand new touch-up lip gloss for me. So sweet! My makeup stayed on all day and night, even with my mom wiping her lipstick off my cheek, along with some of my makeup! I loved Vy's work so much I worked with her again for my Newlywed/Trash the Dress session. Her mom did my hair and both makeup and hair stayed beautiful throughout the day, even with extremely windy weather and sitting in the car with my hair smooshed for 2 hours. Thanks Vy!

Jinger came recommended by our Coordinator. At our initial meeting she was extremely patient with this uncertain bride (me) and had a multitude of pictures to show me as examples. She fit my color scheme and budget and was able to individualize our wedding to what we wanted. Her office is also very nice. Gorgeous photos, fresh flowers, running water... I felt like I was in a first-class place! Update to come. 4/10/09 Update Our wedding was 3/14/09. I am saddened to say that our flowers were not what we expected. Even with pictures and descriptions, for some reason our vision was not clearly communicated. I don't know if the fault lies in us for not being clear, or what have you. Needless to say I was dissapointed with our "low lush" centerpieces which comprised half our tables, the ladies corsages, and the bridesmaids bouquets. The centerpieces were the ones we were most saddened by, and to Jinger's credit, she rebated us some money for them. It can't change what happened, but it was a gracious and much appreciated gesture. The trio centerpieces, on the other hand, were fabulous! As were the men's bouts and my bouquet. Exactly as described and pictured. And I must admit, so were the bridesmaids bouquets (exactly as described in the contract-that is). I just wasn't pleased with the paleness of the green hydrangea, and the closed-ness of the roses. I was hoping for vibrant green and fully opened roses. The ladies corsages had the apricot/papaya roses we asked for, but also tiny pink ones too. I. hate. pink. Just wasn't the modern feel we were going for. I am most dismayed that our vibrant lime green flowers that were promised to us, weren't there at all (low lush's) or were too pale (BM's bouquets). *Sigh* However, I can't rave enough about Jinger's professionalism and timely communication. She worked with us on our budget and made us feel comfortable. She wrote us an email immediately after our wedding (after our coordinator relayed our concerns), and apologized sincerely and offered what she could (see above). I am hoping, and am pretty sure, that this was the first time such a miscommunication occurred as I've seen other reviews and her portfolio. These are in addition to our coordinator's raves about her talent and creativity. So in closing, as with any vendor-- make sure you're clear with what you want, bring pictures, and maybe even fork out some extra $$ for a mockup just to be sure.
