In Russia, we do not have the tradition of not seeing the bride till the aisle. Instead, we have a bunch of varying minigames- or "tests- the groom has to go through before seeing his bride. This was our spin on it.
My mother, signaling that we are ready for showtime
This lady, my brother's GF, was incredible. She arranged all of the games. Here she is preparing the apple...which my DH groomsmen had to pull toothpicks and say something nice about DH with each one they pulled...
The next game required DH to pop balloons. With each one he popped, it had a strip of paper. The paper either had a "key" or an amount of money. If it was an amount, he had to pay that much ("buying the bride") until he got the balloon with the key.
My younger brother was very happy with how much money he made
The next game required DH to pick one of three flutes. One had sweet water, another bitter, and the last one stale water. He had to pick a flute, drink it, and say how his life with myself would be (hopefully he would pick sweet!)
He picked sweet!
Next, he had to pick me out of baby pictures. He did well...
Making his way up the second set of steps, each one had a significant date. He had to remember it's significant...such as first kiss, proposal date. He got a little stuck on my mom's birthday.
Finally, at my door, he had to pull off each letter of my name. With each one, he had to call me with a sweet phrase until I decided to let him come in.
He found me...but I only have one shoe! What to do?
Find the other one of course!
And slip it on...
And make our way towards the limo.
