I really liked Margaret and her cakes were delicious. They were all very moist and not at all dry. I especially liked the strawberry Grand Marnier. Her prices were extremely reasonable. We did not end up going with her, but she was a close second. I recommend her to anyone who doesn't like that super sugary type of cake (I know a lot of Asians who are like this).

Pacific Oaks Vineyard Estate

This is a review that has been a long time waiting. For those of you who are skeptical of the good rating I gave, I am not related to the vendor nor do I have any financial interest in the venue. I don't know how you look for IP addresses, but I can guarantee that I am not writing from the same IP address as any of the other reviewers. First, I want to say that I read the website that jrome put up a year before I had my wedding, but after I had already put my deposit in. I have to admit that I might not have booked the site had I read the website beforehand. Since my husband and I had already given our non-refundable deposit, we confronted the required wedding coordinator about the website (most of the complaints are really against her and not the venue itself). After speaking with her over the phone, and in person, we felt comfortable moving forward. The wedding planning process was definitely not without obstacles. Caterers have had a hard time working with this venue in the past, but now that they have more weddings under their belt (I think they've only had weddings there for a couple of years now), things seem to be running more smoothly. However, we did have some problems finding a reasonably priced caterer because there were a lot of little hidden expenses that came along with having a wedding outdoors on a private estate that my husband and I did not anticipate. For example, vendors (usually the caterer) must bring nearly all equipment including tables, linens, dinnerware, silverware, etc. The amount of labor required to put on a wedding there was an issue that we had to consider. Also, since it's outdoors and on the coast, we had to rent both umbrellas for the day and heaters at night. Shuttle service is a must since the road to the venue is tortuous and there is a lack of parking at the venue. One of the nicer things about having a wedding here was that we were able to bring our own alcohol, which saved us tons of money! Also, the owner was flexible about bringing supplies to the venue beforehand so that we didn't have to worry about it the day of the wedding. Finally, the wedding day: I have to say that my wedding at Pacific Ridge Vineyard Estate (now called Pacific Oaks Vineyard Estate) this summer was beautiful. Many of my guests commented that it was the most beautiful wedding that they had ever seen. We love that we got married there. The coast, the vineyard, the forest, the house, the pool, the garden, the oak grove...just gorgeous. For those of you who are considering Pacific Ridge Vineyard Estate, it is definitely one the most beautiful places to get married at. The location is very unique, and it's nice that they only have one wedding there on any given day (I think, even any given weekend). It does come with a cost (as far as average cost of a wedding, what we paid overall fit in with the average in the Bay Area - which I think is much much higher compared to the national average, and FYI, we had 135 guests). But, in the end, it was worth it! We realized from the beginning that there are always 2 sides to a story and wanted to keep that in mind when we talked to the property owners and the wedding coordinator (Mary Lou). We personally found the property owners warm and welcoming and never had a problem with them. For the most part, we got along with our wedding coordinator. We had a few miscommunications with her during the initial planning stages but felt she did a great job on the day of the wedding and in the weeks leading up to the wedding. It was very stress free, and she was on top of everything! Please don't let the bad reviews keep you from at least considering the property and forming your own opinion regarding whether or not you can work with the venue or its associates. This is a relatively new wedding venue and things are starting to run much more smoothly than before. Ultimately, we had a wonderful wedding there and would recommend it to others.

I had a relatively good experience at Mon Amie Bridal. It was the third place that I went to and also where I found the dress of my dreams that was within my budget ($1300). I really liked my consultant. She was attentive but not at all pushy and didn't do the false "oohs" and "ahhs" that I had gotten at the previous 2 stores. The alterations specialist was also very nice. I did order a size smaller than they recommended since I told them I planned on losing a couple of pounds and knew that if I got the size they recommended, the top would be way too big. They were supportive of this and did not push me to get a size that was too big for me. I ended up not needing alterations at all. My only complaint is that because I am petite in height, a special length was ordered for me. Now, the skirt is too short and my only option is to wear flats. That's okay with me since I'm really bad in heels. Still, I was a bit annoyed since one thing that they had insisted upon during my initial visit was that I wear 2.5 inch heels. They had me wear them when I got measured too, so I'm not sure what happened! Oh, well. So that's my word of caution to you 5'2" girls out there who having slightly longer legs! I recommend Mon Amie for those of you who are looking for a wide selection of unique dresses. It definitely has the more exclusive designers (but at a wide range of prices) and doesn't have the warehouse feel of David's Bridal. You could find cheaper dresses at David's Bridal but the quality of the designer dresses at Mon Amie is far superior. I especially think this because I tried one of the few $1200+ dress at David's Bridal and the dress I found at Mon Amie was way waaaaay better in quality and feel at the same price. I think Mon Amie is just a nice salon to go to for the bridal salon experience. You'll find a lot of options there and will, at the very least, be able to find out what does or doesn't look good on you. Good luck to all!

I bought a bridesmaid's dress here for my friend's wedding. It was a very easy experience. They have all the sizes available to try on and all the colors/fabrics are in-store so that you can compare them. We had already decided on color, fabric, and length, so I just needed to find a dress. The salespeople were very helpful in getting me the right sizes and helping me find dresses. I was able to find and buy the dress within an hour. Though they told me that it might take up to 6 weeks for the dress to come in, it actually only took 2. My experience for finding a bridesmaid's dress was excellent. I did come here to look for my own wedding dress but was not really impressed with the selection or the quality. Even the $1000+ dresses were kind of low quality with fabric that was rough and on the heavy side. You can actually find beautiful Maggie Sottero dresses that are higher in quality and cost much less than the $1000+ dresses I tried on! David's Bridal actually has copied some of Maggie Sottero dresses and sell them for just $100 or so less than the actual Maggie dress. For just $100, I would totally prefer to get the dress from the actual designer. Anyway, that's just me. BTW, I did not buy a Maggie Sottero wedding gown but think they're great (beautiful and budget-friendly)! Also, I know tons of brides who got their wedding dress at DB, so don't let me stop you from going, especially for those of you who are especially budget-conscious. Good luck!

I came here to look at bridesmaid's dresses and they had a pretty good selection. I didn't end up getting the dresses here though since they still charge those bridal salon prices and was able to find the dresses that I wanted online for less.

Icing on the Cake

( 3.0 / 5.0 )
Icing on the Cake is a really cute bakery in Los Gatos, and I came with high expectations, having read a ton of great reviews online. I was a bit disappointed that they did not have any private cake tastings. Instead, they have tastings that are first-come, first-serve every 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month. Get there early, because when I went, there were a looot of other couples in this little tiny store waiting in line for a taste. Their cake is decent but I think it's definitely on the "too sugary" side. Except for their banana cake - it's too die for...sooo good. I would go here to get desserts for your rehearsal dinner, but I think a wedding cake would be way too much sugariness. Unless you like the banana cake. Also, if you like cupcakes instead of a wedding cake, this place might be a good option too.

Marina's cakes are fantastic. I took my brother and sister with me on a tasting since my fiance couldn't make it, and we were all blown away. Her cakes were the best I'd tasted by far. The taste and the texture were perfect. I chose her cake purely for the taste and texture. I am on a budget so I couldn't get anything that looks fancy (fondant, etc), but I'm not really one to get extravagant with a cake (well, I suppose it's pretty extravagant paying $6 a slice). I haven't had my wedding yet, so I'll be back with the final review! 8/30/08 Just checking in after the wedding! The cake (a very simple 3-tier cake with a filagree pattern) looked and tasted wonderful! We chose 2 different flavors - vanilla cake with white chocolate bavarian cream and rasberry filling and the chocolate cake with mint cookies and cream and chocolate ganache filling. I do admit that on the wedding day, the cake was not as moist as I first remembered. Still, in the end, I was very happy and pleased! My guests were quite impressed.

Netbride was great! We got our Jim Hjelm bridesmaids' dresses for a much better price than what a bridal salon would charge. The sales associates were helpful and friendly. They always got back to me in a timely manner. Unfortunately, I don't think they can sell Jim Hjelm dresses at discount anymore, but I definitely would recommend them.

I loved Sherrie's work! Everyone (my bridesmaids, 2 mothers) looked amazing on my wedding day! I was very happy with my own makeup and hair. It was really easy to communicate with her (through e-mail, I nearly always had a response within the day) and her technique was perfect. She and her assistant were very nice and accomodating. She was also very patient and made sure that we were all happy with her work. I would definitely recommend her!

Eli Thomas Formalwear

Eli Thomas for Men is an awesome place to rent tuxes! We got tuxes for the groom, fathers, and all our groomsmen there, and everyone looked fantastic the day of the wedding! We initially went to MW Tux and felt the sales associates there had no idea what they were talking about. My husband couldn't even try on any tuxes because they only have display models there. So, we left. We felt that it was really important to have him actually try on a tux, since our wedding is only once in our lifetime and wanted to make sure he looked good and that his tux would fit. So, we asked around, and my brother mentioned to me that he had once rented a tux from Eli Thomas. Eli Thomas is a family-owned business, so we were happy to support the local businesses. We found the sales associates there to be very helpful and have a lot of knowledge about tuxedos and suits. It was also nice to know that they have a tailor in house, so that if you pick up your tux and it doesn't fit, they can do alterations on the spot. In the end, the price we paid for the tuxedos was about the same as what MW Tux would have charged. We were very happy with Eli Thomas for Men and highly recommend them for your tuxedo rentals!

Mercurio Brothers

We got our invitations a couple of days ago and are extremely pleased with them. They are exactly what I expected - beautiful and elegant. The quality of the paper is excellent (we used the somerset 300g paper) - I think our guests will be very impressed! I'm also happy that the cost was reasonable (especially for letterpress!! You can't find better prices, really), they came in on time, and that communication with the vendor was easy, especially via e-mail (although be warned that they are not open and do not answer e-mails on the weekend). My fiance designed the invitations with images they sent us through e-mail. They use Pantone colors and so we chose our colors by looking at swatches which were available at Kinko's, since we live in Southern California and could not make it into their store. If you want letterpress wedding invitations that are reasonably-priced, but also unique and high-quality, I highly recommend Mercurio Brothers. Also, love that they are mom-and-pop!

Picture This - Kristi and Paul Wolverton

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Kristi and Paul Wolverton are wonderful! The pictures that they took at our wedding were simply amazing. There were so many beautiful pictures that it made it hard to choose which pictures to put into our wedding album. It took us a while to get our album because they spent so much time putting it together. But, the time it took was worth it. We LOVE our wedding album - which is an absolutely gorgeous collage album. We were definitely able to relive the day through looking through the album. The best part is that they are such nice people. My husband and I were worried that we would feel uncomfortable having our pictures taken all day, but they were extremely easygoing and pleasant. We never felt like they were overbearing or pushy. They also shot 2 other weddings for other people that we know and their pictures are just as gorgeous! Kristi and Paul are award winning photographers and are willing to travel anywhere (they travel any where in California for free!). They definitely have a great eye and they work as a team to capture different aspects of a wedding. My husband and I enthusiastically recommend them to anyone!!
