The Davenport Club
Ok, right off the bat: I had an appointment to see this reception hall one saturday afternoon and it looked fantastic, and the website/locations magazine boasted about it being a great place. The gazebo looked ideal, set right on the water. fantastic, right? Well on that day of the appointment, we (my fiancee and I) were driving towards that area and as we were driving, firetrucks were creaming by, and were slowed up behind them and we were like "Nah, couldn't be." Sure enough they made a sharp left in that direction. Oh yes, the reception hall kitchen was on fire. an entire Indian wedding party -- everyone in full celebration garb/finery were crowded outside in 90 degree heat, while a fire was raging in the kitchen. And I am talking smoke visibly coming out of the kitchen door. Yikes! So we turned around and headed to our next appointment.

This is the best we've seen so far!! The caterer Pamela is extremely flexible with how you can customize your menu and her prices are very reasonable. And for just an extra $300, you can rent her entire restaurant out for the night. Awesome! Pamela is very sweet and great to speak with about planning a wedding. She also has great suggestions for details of the wedding (non-catering related as well). The view is great, right on the Hudson River! We also had lunch at the restaurant (my fiance and I) and the food was moutwateringly delicious! Great pcik for a wedding!

Anthony's Lake Club
what ca I say about this venue: Pros: The man who runs it was very professional and was very straigh forward about pricing, very flexible in how to get things done (table placements, ceremony, etc.) The view is nice, it's right on a lake in Danbury. Their is a nice deck where your ceremony can be performed. There is also a gazebo out front (more on that in the cons section). Cons: The room is quite small. The gazebo out front is literally right next to the parking lot. The deck is a little too small/narrow for everyone to gather. The most odd part is that there is a gentleman's/Knights of Columbus type club next door. You haev the option of getting ready on the premises BUT you have to walk thru the gentlemen's bar to go downstairs to get dressed. The man who was running everything is indeed very nice, but very much had a tony soprano -type feel to him. Also, my fiance and I got lost trying to get there. This place is in the vicinity of a bungalow/trailer park. Also it can get noisy because it is also near an athletic field/park area. It is also across from the highway. Big time EEK here. I would definitely not recommend this place. too many complications and turn-off factors.

Ok. The menus do look impressive, adn setup is not bad at all. the rooms are spacious, semi-elegantly decorated, and the amenities are expansive. The representatives/wedding planners who show perspective customers around -- not so much! The man we got had the attitude like he was straight out of the soprano's. He kind of gave a half-hearted effort, like he really didn't want to give my fiance and I the time of day. He looked and sounded broderling bored. Also the prices are quite outrageous! It could be because of the economy, but I don't know. I was turned off by the way he presented it.

Beckwith Point was very nice. It's right on the water, with its own little strip of beach and the cutest gazebo outside (where you can have an onsite ceremony). It's a little pricey, but includes so much. The food sounds amazing, and the wedding planner/representative Linda is wonderful and very helpful. They rooms are extremely spacious with excellent views. The staff is very professional. Overall a great place to conider for you r wedding. Although one thing to note, you cannot edit any of the catering packages, meaning, that if you don't want say a carving station you can't take it out. You can't cut down to lower the price, etc. It is what it is.

Villa Barone Manor
Villa Barone Manor in the Bronx is a wonderful site and the Banquet Manager Anthony was very helpful. The menu is flexible and they have one of the best prices, especially for a Saturday night reception. He shared some great wedding stories and shared some things we might want to do for our wedding. He was also very patient and straight forward. I'd recommend the Villa to everyone. Also, if you like to make a grand entrance, they have this very pretty glass elevator that rises up from the floor when you are introduced. it's a nice theatrical touch. : )

Fontana Bridal Salon
This was by far the salon I had the most fun at when searching for a gown for my upcoming wedding. Everyone is very professional, and extremely helpful. A woman named Brenda was helping me find a gown (I went with my best girl friend and my mom). She was very attentive. I described what I was looking for, gave her my street size, which we then converted to bridal size and voila, she came back with multiple choices, from extravagant to sales rack items. All were amazing. Some were just a bit too fancy for me (trains were overly long or I looked like a walking meringue puff), but Fontana's is where I found the perfect gown. And although very expensive (my mom surprised me and bought the gown for me) it is worth every penny. They custom make the gown that you select. It is a beautfiul strapless gown with a chapel trail, with swarvoski crystals (oh yes I said crytsals) all over gown. Absolutely heavenly. And as a first time customer, the owner gave me a discount I couldn't refuse. What I really loved about this shop is that it was spacious, the tempature was nice and even, and the staff was just so attentive and courteous! It was how every dress hunting experience should be.
