Calligraphy Katrina and Maison Du Papier
Katrina is awesome. She did a great job on our inner & outer envelopes for our invites. I received many compliments on them. Her rates are also far better than anyone else in LA. We liked her so much that we plan on using her again for seating cards, menus, and table numbers. I also want to mention how cool, calm, and collected she is, even when I'm a hectic mess! She's totally flexible - all vendors should be this easy to work with!!

Leah Lee Photography
Leah is superb. She is fun to work with, flexible, and very organized. She took both our engagement pictures and our wedding pictures. I found her prices to be very reasonable, especially considering the quality of her work. Our guests loved that she set up her laptop with a slide show of our pre-ceremony and ceremony pictures during the reception, and several people asked for her contact info. I plan to use her again for any professional photo needs & would highly recommend her to any bride. I think she is as good or better than many LA photogs who charge 10k+.

We had our ceremony at the Little White House and our reception at the Polo Room. As far as location, we couldn't have been more pleased. We also loved working with Deirdre and Annah during the booking and planning process - they were both top notch. We were a little worried becuase our rehearsal was a little rocky (read: disorganized), but the ceremony went off without a hitch and it was just fantastic. The food at the reception was very good (especially for banquet food), but there was no one at Calamigos responsible for releasing the tables for the buffet, so that got a little hectic. If I had known in advance that no one was going to be in charge at the reception, I would have made a plan for doing so instead of leaving it up to the band (who knew zilch about the seating arrangement). Note to brides: when they say "day of coordinator", they mean "ceremony coordinator". There is no point of contact at the reception. This would not have been a problem except for the temperature in the Polo Room, which got really hot after dinner when the dancing started. My MOH tried to talk to someone about it, and was told that they "TURNED THE AIR CONDITIONING OFF because one our guests opened up a door to the patio". She told him to turn it back on, and we had the band make an announcement to please keep the doors closed, but the room never really got comfortable again. Many of our guests left early becuase of the heat, which was very disappointing. Given the cost per head, I would have expected the AC to have been on full blast all night long. We were also disappointed that the kitchen cut the "spare" sheet cake first instead of our tiered wedding cake, leaving most of our large bottom layer left over at the end of the night, which was awkward. I don't mean to suggest that we had a bad experience; we didn't. I look back on our ceremony and reception fondly and would recommend Calamigos. I just wanted to share some parts of our experience so that other brides could be mindful of these issues & make requests in advance accordingly (i.e. keep the AC on no matter what, unlock the doors to the patio so guests don't have to prop them open, cut my wedding cake first, release the tables in this order, get the information about the major players before the day of the rehearsal, etc.) Good luck everyone!

Our wedding cake was as delicious as every cake we have ever ordered from Porto's - and that's a lot of cakes! We selected the mocha cake with vanilla custard, and the black magic cake with raspberry compote. Guests made positive comments about both flavors. I had a custom topper and ribbon which I dropped off a few weeks in advance. Everything was prepared exactly according to our instructions. We also rented a silver plateau from them, which was priced 2/3 less than the same plateau from a popular local party rental company. I cannot imagine wasting money at another bakery when Porto's has such fantastic cakes at fantastic prices.

I was pleased with most of our flowers, but there were some major problems with our order. Specifically, the bridesmaid's bouquets were not the same as the ones we ordered (and paid for) according to our written contract - large flowers were included that were not part of our color palette. They looked pretty - but it was not what I was expecting. I was told that there were "not enough flowers" to fill the layers between my cake, which again, was in the contract. And besides, who says that to a bride's face an hour before the ceremony??? The cake flowers ended up looking okay on the side that faced the guests, but I was worried about it going into the reception. I was also given a toss bouquet, which I had specifically said that I did not want or intend to use. It got tossed - in the trash - at the end of the night. Wish I had those flowers on my cake... What was most disappointing was that my bridal bouquet was falling apart before the ceremony even began. There was also a brown spot in one area which began to show after the petals started falling off. I had an antigue heirloom pin on my bouquet, but could not face this out during my walk down the isle because that side of my bouquet was literally falling apart. I had to take a lot of my pictures after the ceremony without the bouquet because it was in such sorry shape. Basically, the worst thing about this vendor is that they are crummy listeners. Do not assume that you will get what you contracted. Their talent, however, is undeniable and they knew my site well and worked there often (which is why I hired them to begin with). The layout of the flowers was excellent and the centerpieces were a great value. I would not pay the $150 for the rose petal aisle border - it was VERY sparse. Overall, the flowers were pretty, but I would not use this florist again for a special event.

Meredith and her assistants were prompt, professional, and did a great job on both hair and makeup for myself, three attendants, and two mothers. All our ladies got just what they wanted, and requests/adjustments were happily accomodated. They were a relaxing presence on the day of the wedding, which everyone really appreciated. One of our bridesmaid's had lost her curls by the time we got to the site, and Meredith grabbed her curling iron and fixed her right up. I appreciated the touch-up kit, but didn't need it b/c my makeup held so well throughout the reception. Do not hesitate to book Meredith for your event - she will not disappoint!
