Suzanne's Cake & Pastry

2 of my cousins had also used Suzanne's Cake & Pastry for their weddings so I knew that they would be a reliable vendor. Their buttercream is so smooth, it looks almost like fondant. My wedding cake was beautiful and delicious. It's very affordable as well. Great customer service as well.

I went here for a bachelorette party. There were so many bachelorettes there! It was fun. They had the Men of Exotica there doing a male revue show and if you put some money on your bachelorette, they will show her a good time.

I went here for a bachelorette party. It was fun. Once a month they have a Ladies Night, where they give you long stem roses and have the Men of Exotica there doing a male revue show and if you put some money on your bachelorette, they will show her a good time.

I bought my Flower Girl's dress here. The quality wasn't the best but the price was a lot better than other places and they have many different styles and colors. They also sell Juniors dresses there, which may work for bridesmaids dresses. They have other locations at Great Mall in Milpitas & Oakridge Mall in South San Jose.

I heard Alice play her harp at a wedding and she sounded great! I thought a harp would be much quieter but the sound projected very well.

My husband had his bachelor party here. He had a full day of events and this was one of them. The guys had a great time. The only downside is that they need people to be on time and you have to pay a deposit. There were a couple guys who were a little late so they couldn't race and our Best Man wasn't able to get a refund. The good thing though is that he got a credit so he could use it at a later time.

Trudy's Brides, Prom & Special Occasions

( 3.0 / 5.0 )
I, too, have mixed reviews about Trudy's Brides. Before I went there, I had heard great reviews about them. I didn't have a good experience in the brides section. It was very crowded and even with my appt, I still had to wait. I did have a private area in the back, whereas some other brides were in front of everyone, so that was nice. I don't think I was able to choose what dresses I wanted. I had to tell the salesperson what styles I liked and what my budget was and she went and picked dresses for me. Eventually, it seemed as though she wasn't able to find me anything I liked so my bridesmaids and I left disappointed. We went to their Special Occasions shop next door and had a great experience there. My BMs and I were able to look at many styles, try them on and pick out color swatches with the assistance of Jessica. I made sure I saw her every time we went back for the bridesmaids. She helped me order color swatches so I would have something to show my florist. She also sent me a thank you card.

I had the best experience at Elegant Lace Bridal. Leila was great, as well as others, who would assist me on the phone if she wasn't in. My Bridesmaids knew exactly what I was looking for so we went through the dresses and picked some the rack for me to try on. As I tried each dress on, Leila listened to my bridesmaids and I about the details we liked and wouldn't lie (like typical salespeople) and tell me everything looked good when we all clearly knew it didn't. My wedding gown came in months earlier than they had told me so that was good too. Unfortunately, they didn't carry the brand of bridemaids dresses that my bridemaids wanted so we couldn't order them from Elegant Lace. I was, though, able to order my evening dress (Watters Wtoo Bridesmaid's Dress) from them at a discounted price since I ordered my wedding gown from them.

DJ King Raffi (formerly from Mix 106.5) was great. He emceed as well as dee-jayed and also bought an assistant. After we made our grand entrance, we were having a couple family members make announcments but they were MIA. DJ King Raffi filled the awkward silence to help the situation while we located our missing announcers. He didn't charge us for set-up, take-down, travel or the assistant. The only downside was that he cost a lot more than we budgeted but he was worth it.

I sampled A Piece of Cake and thought they tasted good and had great prices. The only reason I didn't go with them in the end was because my wedding wasn't in the south bay.

Lucy's Alteration & Dressmaking

( 2.0 / 5.0 )
I was a BM in an Oct '05 wedding and she had Lucy make our dresses, her wedding gown and her evening dress. She also had Lucy alter her red Chinese dress (cheongsam). The quality of the dresses were good and Lucy was able to duplicate designer dresses to fit our bodies at a reasonable price that included alterations. The evening dress wasn't really what the bride had pictured. Now the downside. . . The bride picked up the dresses the day before her wedding and didn't check them before she left the store. When she got home and took her dresses out of the garment bag, she was horrified when she saw that all these black marks on her red Chinese dress (this was the dress that Lucy didn't make but she did alterations and pressing). The MOH checked her pink dress and saw that there were the same black marks all along the front center of the dress. (We think it was from the pressing machine). My dress had a couple pen marks but it was minor to the other 2 dresses. The bride tried calling Lucy all afternoon but Lucy was out buying fabrics. The MOB ended up spot cleaning the dresses, taking the chance that they might have water stains. Maybe had she picked the dresses up earlier and saw what had happened, there might have been more time to fix it.

Cesar and his assistant were with me from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and that doesn't include the time it took them to travel from Sacramento (I'm estimating 1 1/2 hours each way). Cesar had 3 cameras and his assistant had 2 and they took unlimited shots (it ended up being close to 3000 photos). Many Bay Area photographers limit you to 8 hours and you need to pay OT or an extra fee to have unlimited hours, photos & albums. My package included a 35 page (70 sides) 9.5" x 13.5" flushmount leatherbound album (made in Italy), 4 mini parent albums, 360 4x6's, proofs & album on DVDs, and a 16x20 framed canvas. I received many compliments on my album. PIB. Cesar was also voted "2006 Wedding Photographer of the Year" by Professional Photographers of Sacramento Valley.

I went here for my friend's bachelorette party and it was fun! They have this lounge area in the back that can accommodate about 9 people at a time. They say they can do up to 30 ppl and up to 3 hours. The MOHs were able to bring in flowers, champagne, cider, cupcakes, fruit and favors to hand out to us while we got our manis/pedis. They were also able to bring in a CD to play the bride's favorite music and a DVD to watch the bride's favorite movie on their large LCD TV. They used brand new files, buffers, and pumice. They even packed it up for us so we can take it home for later use. They offer the following brands of polish - OPI, Essie and even Channel! They have a 5 day no chip policy so you can go back and repair any chips. (I wasn't able to take advantage of this because I live in the south bay and it wasn't worth the drive back). According to their website, they include 20% gratuity and a $35/person min. They also charge for no shows so it's always a bad thing if you have flaky friends.

Presidio Chapel

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
The first time I visited Presidio Chapel, I fell in love with it. It was very quaint for a smaller ceremony (150 people). They had a mural room that we were considering for a Chinese tea ceremony. They even had a wedding bell that the bride herself could ring as she was about to walk down the aisle. The chapel has their own parking lot, which is great for San Francisco. Now the downside: The main reason we didn't choose this chapel was because when I was leaving the chapel, I looked to the left and next to the chapel is the National Cemetery. For traditional Chinese people, this is a taboo to have the cemetery next to the wedding site.
