On Friday December 7, 2007 my roommate Britney Palowitch (aka BP) and I decided to have a nice little roomie dinner at Houlihans. We were sat in a large booth parallel to the bar, ordered drinks and entrees when a few seconds later two gentlemen who were at the bar decided to approach our table. They asked if we were waiting for any others to join us and if not would we mind them sitting with us to chat. BP and I looked at each other, shrugged and said, sure why not. After all they cute and somewhat charming (I believe it was the liquid courage). They took their seats at the table, the first gentleman sat beside BP and the second - Justin Herris sat with me. They explained that they were there celebrating the end of finals for for UCF's Fall semester. (BP and I were still in community college so we had another week of finals to go). After we all chatted as a group the conversations seemed to split off into the different sides of the table... Justin and I started to talk and sparks started to fly. Our food arrived at the table and the two decided to let us eat in peace so they headed back to the bar. Two bites into my delicious Fettuccine Alfredo a highly intoxicated man plopped down beside BP (across from me). He then proceeded to tell me that I had "beautiful facial features" and that he would love to draw me. BP and I had no clue how to handle this and before I knew it he was sketching away on a cocktail napkin with a pen. I was able to make eye contact with Justin and hoped that he would be able to read the distress signal I was sending out with my beautiful facial features. I was lucky and Justin knew exactly what to do, he walked over and sat really close to me as if to say.... I'm with her. The amateur sketch artist quickly finished my portrait and handed it over as he walked away. It was that moment that I discovered I looked like a larger African American (pointed out in the portrait) . BP and I finished our meal, I exchanged numbers with Justin, and we all said our goodbyes and headed out.
The next day I went to work and I could not get this guy I met at the previous night's dinner out of my head. On my lunch break I decided to shoot him a text thanking him for rescuing me and the lovely conversation. He texted me back and said he too had a great time then asked me to a dinner date for the following Monday. Justin picked me up and took me to a Thai restaurant, we had an absolute amazing dinner and neither of us wanted to end the night there. He suggested we get a drink somewhere and I suggested we grab a nice bottle of wine and head to my place to watch wedding crashers ( I was only 20 and he had never seen wedding crashers (crazy I know)). Somewhere between the conversation at dinner, the first kiss he sneaked during the movie, and the end of the night, it was certain... I was head over heels about this guy. From that night forward we decided we did not want to spend one minute away from each other.
