Well I had scoped this bed and breakfast out early on and bookmarked it, but with everything else going on I hadn't gotten around to booking anything until last Thursday (a little over two weeks from our wedding....yes I'm a procrastinator some times!) I picked this one specifically because it had a massage therapist that would come and do couples massages in room!! So looking forward to that, he knows about the B and B, but hasn't got a clue about the massage booking!! Their breakfast is a 3 course affair sooooo I'll probably put back on some of the weight I've lost....but it looks sooo worth it!! I mean hey caramel french toast, poached free range eggs on top of Kentucky ham or omelets like this one mmmmm mmmmm!!
Double spa tub, sitting room and a private patio and entrance since this is in the carriage house!! Best part is that they had a Go Green special of 20% off if you lived within 45 miles (we're maybe 10) and if you mentioned seeing the ad on the internet you also got a 25 dollar gas card!!! We'll stay there night of and the next night, then we're heading to our favorite campground (Barren River) for a 4 night stay!! I wanted to stay 7, but he said he thought 4 would be enough and we would have time to relax a few days at home before going back to work and we do have a pool so we can have some fun in the sun still!! Oh and the best part of the camping is that after years of trying to get a specific site that's on a bluff (you walk around a path and your on a low cliff that we fish from and swim from!) we usually camp elsewhere in the park then drive to the bath house and walk to it from there which is about two blocks or so.....very happy about that! Since we'll be getting there on a Monday and leaving on Friday it's open it only gets booked in advance for the weekends, so it worked out perfectly!! They have horseback riding there too, so sleeping in (we don't rough it, we use a fan and have an extra high air mattress and a HUGE tent, oh and I plan on bringing the laptop since I have a tv tuner in it) at least until the sun makes it too hot to sleep, then breakfast fish and swim and sun till lunch by then it may be time for a nap!!! ;) This will be the FIRST true vacation we've taken by ourselves.....hard to believe after 18 years huh?!! So I'm soooo stoked, can't wait till the 3rd!!
I ordered all my invitation stationary/cardstock from CardsandPockets.com, great site, prices were reasonable as far as I could tell and best of all you can order samples of the kits and the color swatches! Since our colors are orange and green I used the green mainly. I picked a 5x7 pocket fold in green, then instead of the orange mattes I had picked at first,I decided on the copper since we're both plumbers and it's an orange tone it felt fitting. Then for the written part of the invitation instead of getting regular invitations that only came in white or cream, I chose another light green. Both the green invitation and the copper matte have an irredescent finish which the picture won't do justice to boooooo! When I was designing the written part of the invitation I printed bunches of them and they looked ok, but once I printed it on the irridescent green it was the difference between night and day, between looking self printed and printed by a professional! Love them!!
Thats a green hydrangea in the bottom that I designed from a purple one the wording is in two different fonts because the font that's used had a crappy looking S. I made this using Microsoft Picture It! 10 and Word (which I didn't start "getting" until I was almost done with all the extras like dirction and rsvp cards) and printed on a HP (only kind I buy) all in one printer. How do you like the corner cutouts and the swarovski accents on the top flourish? They also give it a professional look. I'll take some more pics to upload with the regular camera this weekend. (6/3/11)
This I had printed and then I got the pistachio green mattes, you can kind of see the printed card is opalescence and has a beautiful sheen to it too! I added a swarovski jewel to the end of the C monogram but now I wish I'd picked a darker color for it, these will go on the outside on top of a ribbon band. Still have to find the ribbon for it....more shopping yeaaaaaaaa! :)
The mattes are copper of course....and I had to order them 3 times before I got enough to turn out, the corner punch was a booger! The second time I ordered them I got another 10 out of 10 I think I might have actually got 5 that I could use.....
The name card has a C monogram on it but it really turned out kind of light, light enough I had a hard time putting the crystal at the end of it...
For our cake, sticking with the rest of the theme, I wanted it simple too! We decided on a 3 layer lemon with lemon filling and buttercream icing. I want the two lower tiers to be square and stacked offest rather than squared, with a round top layer and something simple decoration wise like the drapes in this photo....
I also want a smaller amount of flowers on each tier like the one on the right!
But the first inspiration I got for our cake was this picture by Cakes by Susan (Louisville, Kentucky)
As soon as I saw how this was lighted up I fell in love with it!!! My Mother has a old old round cut glass cake plate that I will be using. It has no legs or pedestel so I'm using some cheapy votive cups with cheapy battery operated flicker candles in them to hold up the plate, those will be placed more towards the center of the cake plate. I also bought a string of battery powered lights that Ill twist up in olive green tulle to put around the cheapy votives then on the outside edge I have four crystal flower shaped votive cups that will be under the outer edge of the cake plate and I also bought 2 burnt orange and 2 olive green battery operated flicker candles to add color! The colored candles are made of wax and are scented also.....I'll post a picture of the set up without the cake soon!! Then I'll used orange rose petals to decorate around it too. Off to the side I'll have a pillar candle stand with another battery operated flicker candle, this one is made of off white wax with a demask pattern and our Monogram of a C on it. Two punch bowls with silver ladles, pretty cut glass flutes, a cake serving set and some bowls of green jordan almonds with the printed napkins and coordinating ones should set it all off wonderfully!! I saw ideas using real votive candles under votive cups (they turned the cups upside down over small votives) but they told you not to let them burn too long or the icing could/would melt!! I also want to set it up with it lit and live it that way and you couldn't do that with the actual burning votives!!
My colors were established early on!! My two favorite colors are orange and green with maybe some purple thrown in here and there!!! So the flowers were easy to find pictures of .....I'm ordering my flowers through a company called Fiftyflowers.com and they were really reasonably priced!! I got a DIY box of 50 roses (I can choose one or two colors as the roses are split into bouquets of 25 stems) with 30 stems of peach hypericum berries, set off with 18 to 25 stems of leather leaf, 8 to 10 stems of tree fern, and 24 shoots of lilly grass for only $119.00!!! I also wanted green hydrangeas, so since this company only does bulk orders besides the DIY I'll order the hydrangeas from our local Kroger store and probably a little more filler and some lighter colored roses too. I figure all in all I'll probably spend around $200.00 on flowers. Here is what the roses will lool like and the filler flowers and greenery but less the hydrangeas......
Here are some similiar colored roses with hydrangea to give you an idea.....
I plan on wrapping them similiar to these only with a wired edge olive green ribbon and a cream and gold ribbon accent!! Plus I've bought brooches for the bridesmaids, mine, and the flower girls bouquets in purple and green.....my favorites are dragonflies and frogs sooooooo here are pictures of the pieces I've bought for the bouquets!!
These are the ones going in my bouquet.....I'm still torn over an amber colored one....! Wish the frog was bigger, it's a cutie especially with that huge stone in his back!!
This is the one for my bridesmaids bouquets!
These are the ones for my granddaughters bouquets!!! I chose purple because of how the orange will make them pop, the green looks very pretty with them too!!!
The roses should be a little deeper but these are the exact flowers I'll be using!!!! See the peach hypericum berries, those should add some texture to the bouquets!!
This is the piece of jewelry that my bridesmaids, and flower girls jewelry all revolves around, the necklace that I'm wearing! I'll wear the clasp to the side but in front rather than the back where most clasps go. The clasp is about 3/4" round and for as old as it is, you'd NEVER know it, it looks brand new, but belonged to my paternal great-grandmother and was also worn by my paternal grandmother also! It's beautiful and everytime I look at it I marvel at how new it still looks no silver turning color or wear of any kind. I need to take it and have it looked at for all I know it's real and not the costume jewelry I assume it to be! So I've ordered earrings to match it, funny thing about the earrings after I'd made up my mind to get them and was getting ready to order them I saw their name.....Adele, which is my middle name, I knew I had to have them then!!! Here's a picture of them, I'm STILL waiting on them to arrive from the Etsy shop I ordered them through......uggggggh!!
The round part mimics the clasp on the necklace perfectly except instead of pearls set in it these are crystals!!
I also ordered a bracelet to wear, here is it's picture! I still need to order my tiara.....I ordered all the older granddaughters a pearl and crystal bracelet too, I couldn't get them one exactly like mine like I wanted to since it was vintage and she only had the one, so I ordered ones that were as close as I could get!!
For my bridesmaids I ordered these earrings....
My bridesmaids are my two best friends.....actually they are my only girlfriends!! I've known Connie for almost 30 years and Kat at least 10 years and they are the best girlfriends a person could ask for.....I'll have to hunt for a picture of Connie but here's Kat and the dresses they'll be wearing. Their dress is the style of the black one but it will be made in the dark green of the other picture!I was actually hoping that my two bridesmaids would pick different colors since I liked them both and really would have liked to use both of them, but they both chose the dark.
This is Kat one of my bridesmaids and one of my bestest friends, and Rob, James' best man and friend since grade school! He's my bestest guy friend too and a one of a kind!! Everytime he calls or comes by it's been an ongoing joke since we asked him to be in our wedding, he always stops the conversation soon after it starts with "are you all STILL getting married".....?!! :D We're only having the three so Rob gets to escort both of them plus he'll have to go back for our mothers since my FIL passed two years ago and my parents are divorced. I've also decided to have both my Mom and Dad escort me up the aisle this time, it just seemed right. I just went to a nephews wedding and his wife did the same.....
Here are the flower girl dresses!!! Aren't they just precious?!!
The polka dots are actually hearts!!! Their ages are 7(she'll be 8, 2 months later), 6, and 3(She'll be 4 in 2 weeks)
Here is the picture the dressmaker took of one of the finished bridesmaid dresses, it's not the color I had wanted, but I think it will work with what I've bought. If it does clash then I'll take back the ribbon for the flowers and get some that matches better and get a different tulle for the cake table.....grrrr really liked the olive green best.
It is a pretty green and truly I like most greens, but I really had my heart set on the olive green......my advice to anyone ordering dresses like I am through a chinese or other foreign language country, before you put the order through check with them again for reassurance that it will be as you want it! :)
