Island Disco was going through a transition period just a few months before our wedding, and Ray was contracted to be our DJ just a month or so before the big day. We were quite nervous not knowing what to expect because when we planned our scouting trip last year, the DJ and the musicians were the only vendors that we didn't get a chance to meet with. As soon as we got into town for the wedding, we met with Art and Ray right away to go through the program. We wanted Art to play Keali'i Reichel's "The Road that Never Ends" when we walk up the aisle as husband and wife, but he told us he has never heard of it before. However, he got a hold of the music and learned the song within 4 days. It was remarkable and he is so excited now that he got a new song to play at future weddings! Ray was awesome. He played all the songs that we liked and he was able to get everyone on the dance floor. It was a lot of fun!

I ordered 150 silver organza bags (6" x 9") for my invitations and they were great. The prices were much cheaper than a lot of places I looked at. I didn't go through their website directly but through eBay instead.

Yvonne is amazing. Her flowers are always fresh and beautiful, and she is very laid back and easy to work with. But the most important thing is that she listens to the brides and can turn your dream and vision to reality. She is very creative and she is really good at what she does. I highly recommend her.

I never thought I would end up buying my dress at a bridal store in Concord since I lived in the city. But the dress I really liked - a Maggie Sottero one, was shown at one of their trunk shows. So I drove all the way out there one weekend to check it out. That was actually 14 months before my wedding. I brought a picture of that Maggie dress with me and when I asked them if they had it, they took it off of the shelf for me. I tried it on and loved it, but of course I had to try on other dresses as well. The lady told me that if I bought the dress that day, she would give me a 10% off truck show discount. I really liked the dress and would probably get it regardless. It's nice to have a discount, so I bought it and I stopped looking at dresses at the stores and in the magazines. 3 months later, they told me that my dress came in but my wedding was another 11 months away. I didn't want to bring the dress home because I didn't want DH to "snoop" around my closet. So I asked if they could hold the dress for me until it's time for my first fitting. 5 months after that, I went in for my first fitting and I ordered my veil during that trip. Another month later, it was my 2nd fitting and I tried everything on. It was perfect and I brought the dress home. The whole dress-shopping experience there was a very pleasant one for me. I have heard mixed reviews about Gesinee's, but they were very nice and courteous to me every time I was there. If you can, try to go on a weekday. Weekends tend to be crazy at the store.

Photography by Jonathan
Jonathan is a friend of my good friend from business school, Francis. One Christmas, I received a card from Francis and his wife Katie, and it was the two of them at China Beach with the lovely Golden Gate Bridge in the background. I asked them who took the picture because thats what I had in mind for our engagement photos. They told me their friend Jonathan took it, and he was also a wedding photographer. By then, we had already booked our wedding photographer in Honolulu, but I really wanted to have our engagement photos done in San Francisco, so I contacted him and within a few months, we were at the same location doing our photo shoot. It was such a great afternoon and the weather was perfect. Jonathan was so easy to work with and he made it so fun. We were really happy with the pictures and we enlarged one of them as our signature portrait for the wedding reception, so that guests could sign in.

Royal Garden Chinese Restaurant
We also had a huge turnout for the rehearsal dinner since it was a destination wedding. 70 out of the 100 guests at the wedding attended the 10-course Chinese banquet, hosted by my MIL. The food was excellent and so was the service. I highly recommend this restaurant for either a rehearsal dinner or a Chinese wedding banquet.

The dress that we all liked was this blue, floral strapless by Alfred Angelo. My girls went to the store to try them on and it was $150. Later, I found out from a few brides that there is an online store called E-Bridal Superstore that sells Bridesmaid designer dresses for less. I went on there and found the same dress for only $90. I told my girls and they all ordered it from there. They got the dress right on time as well. I would highly recommend them to all brides-to-be and their bridesmaids.

Alison is a wonderful person to work with. She is very knowledgeable and she listens to what you want. I had a hair/makeup trial with her 2 days before the wedding and she did my hair and makeup exactly the way I wanted it. On the day of the wedding, I was able to relax, sit back and enjoy a great conversation with her because I already know how she was going to do my hair and makeup. She also did a great job on my Maid of Honor's makeup. We were very happy with her work and will highly recommend her to anyone.

Eugene and his assistant Joy were so easy to work with. DH and I actually went to his studio one year prior to our wedding to meet up with him and look at his portfolio. We really liked his style and he had photographed so many lovely couples at the same resort that we got married at. We just loved his work and I felt so comfortable around them. I highly recommend them.

Kahu Silva came highly recommended, but when I tried to book him for our wedding, we found out that he had a prior engagement on the evening of our wedding that he couldn't get out of. I was really disappointed but was happy to know that Kahu Bruce Ah Leong could perform our wedding. About a few months before the wedding, I tried to call Kahu Silva's wife Sharon to schedule our rehearsal, but the Kahu actually answered the phone. We ended up talking for an hour and we felt connected instantaneously. It was through that phone call that Kahu decided to personally do our wedding and cancel his prior engagement. We didn't know about his change of plans until a few days before the wedding when Sharon called. DH and I were ecstatic and the ceremony was just unbelievable. Kahu offered his prayers, blessings and chants with the conch shell blower announcing the festivities to all 4 corners of the earth. We then had the Ka Wai Ola ceremony (traditional Hawaiian water ceremony) and it was so moving that I just lost it right there. Before he announced us as husband and wife, we did a lei exchange. It was a very unique ceremony that we will never forget. After the wedding, everyone came by to tell us how special the ceremony was.
