The Cornet Bay Environmental Learning Center offers overnight accomodations, a ceremony site in a gorgeous setting right on the beach, and a reception hall with a fully-equipped kitchen... all for less than $10/guest. No, it's not a full-service venue, and the rangers, while helpful, aren't going to hold your hand. The atmosphere is a bit scout camp - it is a scout camp. But if you're going to DIY all the set-up/clean-up/catering anyway, and you want a large wedding in a comfortable outdoorsy setting, there's really no better deal out there. The cabins are spartan but the mattresses are decent, and they do have indoor bathrooms. It's best to book a year in advance - we tried in October hoping for an August wedding, and had to push back to September 'cause all the weekends were full. If you have any leeway in your calendar, check the tide tables before booking; when the tide is out, the lovely beach turns into a lovely mud flat. There's a cabin on an island in the middle of the bay that you can reserve separately for your wedding night.

Calligraphy by Jeri Hobart

We gave Jeri a vague list of our favorite colors and lettering styles, a few pictures of goofy Joshua trees, and a brief text for our Quaker-style wedding certificate... she pulled it all together into a beautiful piece of art. NB: She's not located in the Seattle area. She's in Iowa City, IA. It helps if that happens to be where your family lives ;)
