I originally wanted a $300 dress with lots of bling bling on the bodice but when I saw this dress I knew I had to have it.  It is so me!  To make a long story short this dress is almost $5000, however, after much searching I found it UNUSED at a bridal salon in Cali for $1500.  I will definitely pay that amount for this dress.

We searched high and low for a place that would let us do our own food without a license so that the costs would be low for the amount of people we are planning on inviting.  Low and behold we found the Wagontown Volunteer Hall that holds up to 300 people.  The price is right also.  The place is very nice and I didn't see anything wrong with the carpet in there but the hall manager said they were putting new carpet a little before our wedding.

Another great thing about this venue is that they are also going to be getting new landscaping done before the wedding.  We are going to take our pics right outside next to this wall that looks like it's just in an open field.  The wall looks rustic.  I'm sure the pics are going to come out great next to this wall.

For peace of mind we did hire a real caterer.  There was no way of getting around it.  We could have done all the cooking but we didn't have anyone to serve, so like I said before, for peace of mind we hired professionals.  An old friend from college and his wife own a catering company specializing in soul food, which is exactly what we wanted.  They do other types of food as well but soul food is their specialty.

This pic doesn't do this venue justice.  It is huge and in very nice condition.  I was very impressed because at first I really couldn't picture doing my wedding at a volunteer fire hall but as soon as we walked in, we knew it was the right place.  Best of all it has a huge dance floor and I love to dance.  I'm so looking forward to dancing at my wedding.  :0)

This is the proposal in his words that is posted on our wedding website . . .

This is how I proposed to Myngo . . .

This is how I proposed to Myngo . . .

The way that I proposed to her was making a sign saying "Happy Birthday Myngo" and another sign next to that one saying "Come this way." I had made some arrows guiding her to come down the hallway leading to different rooms.

The master bedroom, the second bedroom and the bathroom. I had each door closed. I had candles lit in the hallway as well as in the bathroom. I had all the lights off. In the bathroom I plugged in a radio and had Toni Braxton's "I Love Me Some Him" playing. That song was the first song me & Myngo danced to when we first started dating. In the master bedroom I hooked up the laptop and made a sign saying "Play me". The song that I wanted her to play was this song from Stacy Lattisaw & Johnny Gill called "Perfect Combination." It's a good romantic song. In the second bedroom I had her birthday gift saying "You can open me now or later." I had the closet door closed, so it'll give her the impression that I was hiding in there. I planned all this before she got off of work.

Once she got there, she saw the signs I had posted up one wall and was surprised and followed the arrows. She went to the bathroom and heard the music playing and saw the candles lit. She thought I was hiding behind the shower curtain. After that she went in the master bedroom and saw the laptop with the sign I had up. She played the music. She was getting excited by the minute. Finally she went in to the second bedroom and saw her birthday gift. I got her a nice birthday card. She checked the closet to see if I was in there.

I was hiding in the linen closet in the hallway. I hid there holding the engagement ring behind my back. She texted me on my cell phone saying "Baby where are you?". I texted her back saying "You have to find me first. I'll be waiting." After that she started looking around the house again to see where else that I could be hiding. She finally found me. I scared her a little bit as she found me. I walked out to the hallway with her. She saw that I had something behind my back. I told her "Happy Birthday" and told her close her eyes and no peeking. Once she did that, I took out the ring and put on her finger. I told her to open her eyes. When she saw the ring she was so surprised. I got down on my knee and asked her "Will you marry me?". She said "Yes." She was crying because this was unexpected. She just thought everything was only for her birthday. I didn't know that I would propose to her on the same day as her birthday. It's will be a very memorable birthday that she'll never forget. After that, we both called and texted our friends & family that we are officially engaged. Everyone was really happy for us.

We had a birthday dinner at my house with her family and my Dad stopped by to Congratulate us.

It must be meant to be because Robert and I have known each other's families since we were children, however, only met a little over two years ago ourselves.

His Dad is the one who introduced us.  He used to come to me at church and say "I want you to marry my son."  Finally after about five years or so of him saying this to me I told him I would be interested in meeting his son.  I had no idea how shy he was nor that he was five years younger than me.  I had never dated anyone younger than me.

So I used to help my Mom take care of my grandmother and Sundays was one of the days I went and stayed over with her and his Dad brought him over and left him for a few hours.  It was nice, he was shy but he broke the ice and started talking.  After a few hours his Dad came a got him.  That was June and I didn't hear from him again until August.

It was funny because I had started dating someone else just before he called me and asked me out.  The person I was dating was also dating other people so I saw that as an opportunity to do the same.  On that same first phone call he had just about all my weekends booked up.  Eventually I started to really have feelings for him and I felt that he always made time for me and I loved that compared to the other guy I was dating.  So, I told the other guy that I wanted to see where Robert and I would go and he said he understood.  He was a great guy but just a little too busy and last minute for me.  This man was older than me and if he would have caught me years before when I were younger I would have been down for that but now I wanted it to be different and Robert was just what I was looking for.

After getting to know each other we figured out that he went to the same church as my grandfather.  He was in the same choir as my grandfather and had even sung at his funeral with the choir just two years before we met.

I truly feel we were meant to be.  :0)
