#1 - Christmas Eve 2009

Mr. totally caught me by surprise, which I honestly thought couldn't be done! I had been waiting for that day for a very, very long time.. and, really, I was pretty much expecting it! Y'know, almost 9 years in the making.. it was about time to get the show on the road, lol.

Anyway, it happened around 8pm, after we arrived back at Mr.'s parents' house from a neighbour's annual party. Mr. asked if I'd come help him organize stuff in our guest room, so that our DD would have a place to sleep on the floor (she was originally in another bedroom, but Mr.'s Grandma had arrived, so the bed went to her). We figured that out, we made our bed, and after we had a little 'YAY for teamwork!' moment (cheese-tastic!), I was hugging him..

I told him I loved him, he told me he loved me, and BAM! He pulled out a ring box, asked, "Would you love me any more if I gave you this?", and opened the box.. there was no official asking (yet), nor did I cry.. I was just shocked..

** Keep in mind that over those last 9 years, Mr. had always told me he'd never propose on a holiday, birthday, or any other day that may be special, 'cause he saw it as too cliché. **

 But, moving on..

He put the ring on my finger, and stated, "I'll take the silence as a "yes"?"

I won't lie, I was a little bit taken aback, 'cause honestly, I wanted the formal asking, so I joked that he didn't even ask the question. He countered with something like, "Do I really need to?"

Looking back, he really didn't have to ask (um, hello.. it was obvious what the ring meant at that point, even if I was shocked beyond belief), but he then formally, officially asked those 4 special words--"Will you marry me?, slipped the ring on my finger, and I graciously accepted (obviously.. I mean, there was absolutely no need to make him grovel.. or wait 9 years for a response! HAHA). Actually, I think my acceptance was more of an, "OF COURSE! OMGGG, BABEEE!", but, whatever. ;]

#2 - May 19th, 2011

FI proposed (again) in the lobby of the Holiday Inn Waterfront in Kingston, ON., just as we were about to leave for his brother's RoyalMilitaryCollege graduation ball. It was very low-key, very spur-of-the-moment, and I wouldn't have it any other way. :]

Proposal--at the Holiday Inn? : wedding Lobby

We had reconciled back in March after a 10-month split (which we don't really count--during that time we lived separately, but were dating, and working on our relationship), and with his talks on Mother's Day weekend about him wanting to get married/TTC our second by the end of the year (which we have now pushed back until after the wedding, lol), I knew it had to be coming.. but I wouldn't have guessed it would be so soon (I like to joke with him about the fact that he didn't even make me wait 2 months for it, whereas when he first proposed, it was close to 9 years)!

He planned to do it while we were getting ready in our room with DD (she was "helping [me] get pretty"), but unfortunately, the babysitters showed up early, and he thought it would be awkward to do it in front of them.

As we were waiting for our (very classy) taxi, he pulled me aside, and told me how beautiful I looked--but, that I was missing a little something. Before I knew it, he pulled my ring out of his pocket, told me that he loved me more than anything, and asked me to marry him (again).

I'm so, so happy to have a second chance with the man of my dreams.. and, my pretty sparkly back on my finger where it belongs! HA!

Our love story starts way back in 2000 when I started college, and Mr. contacted me about my professors, as his father teaches at the college I attended, in my major. We became close friends quickly, and although Mr. tried to ask me out several times, nothing could convince me to give him a chance. 5 months of poems, e-mails, phone calls--until one day I broke down. I remember like it was yesterday. January 26th, 2001. Ever since then, we have been inseparable. I have to be honest, we have had our up and downs; our bad, and good times, but after 10½ years (11½ by our wedding date!), and a 7-year-old daughter together, we have decided to make it official surrounded by our loved ones, next August!

I can't wait to finally share his last name!
