After 8 years of dating, he finally proposed!  It happened September 27, 2008.

We attended a HS friend of mines wedding earlier that day and had plans to go to my best friends house after to watch boxing with her and her fiance.  We drove to my Moms house I changed my clothes, as I am walking out, my Mom is walking me to the door and smiling very hard as if she is seeing me off to my first date.  At time I didn't think anything of it.  I just figured she was overly happy!  LOL.  Before heading to my friends house, Damienn decides he is hungry and we must stop and get something to eat.  I keep insisting that we are going to be late because my best friend kept calling me to find out if we were on our way (She was in on the whole thing).  We pull up to this Chinese Cuisine Restaurant that we have not been to in years - we actually had our first date there.  As we are waiting for our food, we are talking about the wedding that we attended earlier and how nice it was..blah..blah.  He starts to talk to me about how much he loves me and appreciates me and how he thanks GOD for me everyday.  He also said that he spoke to my Mom and she gave him her blessings (never dawned on me that was the reason my Mom was Miss Smiley).  So in the midst of him saying all these nice and lovely things the waiter comes to fill our glasses with water so as I look up at the waiter, the waiter is looking down at the table and has this WOW expression on his face.  I look down on the table and there was the box!  I was soooooooo excited but felt so embarrassed at the same time.  I am very shy person when it comes to certain things and I always told him if he ever was to propose that I didn't want it to be in a public place.  I snatched the box off the table so quick you would have thought I stole something!  LOL.  I can't remember much of that moment, I just remember being so shocked and surprised and I know I said YES!  I called my Mom first and she was like congratulations before I could even utter a word.  Called my sister..and my best friend who knew the whole time.  She found out about it at the wedding.  I was soo happy and excited with the moment - that I pretty much texted everyone else!

My fiance and I met at club in NYC in October of 2000.  At that time, we both were dealing with the loss of close family members - my Dad and his younger brother.  We would talk every day and hang out every night.  We became sort of each others healers.  I am true believer that GOD places people in your life for different reasons, and I thank him every day for placing my best friend into mines.  We have a 7 year old son and a 16 year old daughter (My step-daughter), whom we love both very dearly!

The funny thing about our story is that I would ALWAYS see him before actually knowing him and for some odd reason - I DID NOT LIKE HIM!  I just thought that he was conceited!  Never spoke to him a day in my life before meeting him and just had that assumption :-).  Here we are 9 years later and are getting married!  Some people ask: What took you so long?  We honeslty never thought about it.  Marriage was not a main concern to us.  I for one was not the "I have to get married" type. It never was a big issue to me.
