Houston Museum of Natural Science

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
The Houston Museum of Natural Science is an unbeatable reception site for someone looking for something a little bit different or a native Houstonian who has a lot of out of town guests! Both my husband and I grew up going to HMNS and were so proud to be able to show off the amazing collection of Gems and Dinosaurs to all of our friends who had never been to Houston! The Museum books quite far into the future because of so many corporate events but it is completely worth getting on their calendar way in advance for an unforgettable experience for both you and your guests!

T'afia

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Monica Pope's T'afia was the perfect place for our rehearsal dinner. We wanted a place that was special to us that also allowed us to have an intimate dinner with close family and wedding party only. The T'afia upstairs party room held our 30 people perfectly and the food was incredible. We talked a bit about our favorite foods with the chef and they blew us away with an amazing five course meal with wines paired with each course. The serving size is perfect so that our guests left satisfied but not uncomfortably full.

Alan Cable Workshop

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
We had our platinum bands custom made by Alan Cable workshop on Bissonett. Alan also made my engagement ring (in secret) and has made many of my favorite jewelry pieces over the years. We wanted simple but unique platinum bands with inscriptions inside and Alan was very excited to shape the bands by hand specifically for us and it meant so much to us to have a hand in making them rather than just choosing something from a chain jewelry store. We both enjoy our rings and look forward to wearing them forever!

Sovereign Services

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
Sovereign Services did a great job on the day of the wedding transporting us from the church (Christ Church Cathedral, downtown) to the reception (Houston Museum of Natural Science, near the medical center). The limos were actually bigger than what we ordered which was only a problem because I had explained to the wedding party where to go based on the size we expected -- but bigger is better than smaller than expected! We sorted it out and our drivers were incredibly personable and easy to get a hold of when they were needed at the end of the night. I would definitely recommend them for events.

River Oaks School of Dancing

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
With only a couple of weeks to go before our wedding we decided that we should take dance lessons and the River Oaks School of Dancing was a great about giving us a crash course and putting together a very simple first dance we could wrap our heads around with all of the last minute planning going on. They offer Friday night open dancing for practice and all of the staff was incredibly helpful! The location was perfect in Shepherd square near Westheimer at Shepherd.

Casa de Novia Bridal

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Casa de Novial bridal offers a great selection of couture bridal gowns. Shop owner, Luvi Wheelock, will be with you every step of the way to find the perfect gown for you. I bought my dress at a Junko trunkshow and was able to talk with the designer to actually alter the dress to make a custom dress just for me. The service is incredible and Luvi's opinions are right on target - she doesn't want you to settle for a dress that isn't just right for you. I would highly recommend Casa de Novia bridal for anyone looking for a unique gown for wedding or debut.

Brooke Schwab Photography

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Brooke Schwab Photography provided everything we could have asked for in a wedding photographer! Brooke is wonderful to work with and made us more comfortable with the idea of having someone taking photographs during our wedding day by meeting with us for an included engagement portrait session ahead of time. She is very personable and we never felt like we were being bossed around or posed awkwardly like school portraits - which is great! The engagement session was a lot of fun and we felt comfortable and ready to go for the wedding day. Having Brooke with us on our wedding day before the ceremony was like having another close friend along for the journey and we didn't really even notice that she was taking a million photos of everything. I had an odd situation that I had a particularly difficult person "helping" me with my dress on the day of the wedding before the ceremony and Brooke was amazing at keeping me focused on smiling and enjoying every minute of it. The wedding ceremony and reception flew by and we had a wonderful time particularly at the reception which was held at the Houston Museum of Natural Science among the dinosaurs and wildlife exhibitions. We spent a few minutes off to the side with Brooke taking photos but really we just enjoyed being with our friends and family. When we recieved the email that the photos were ready for us to view we were blown away with how many incredible photos Brooke managed to get throughout the ceremony and reception of all of our guests having a great time - looking through the proofs was a chance to relive every moment and we can't wait to have our album to share with everyone! I would recommend Brooke Schwab Photography to anyone who is looking for a wedding photographer or just for photos of your family - she is incredibly talented and a joy to work with!

Cafe Extraordinaire

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Rachael from A Fare Extraordinare is wonder woman! The food is incredible and all of the linens, coordinated by A Fare, were beautiful in the space. In the Houston Museum of Natural Science, you have to be very creative with the space and A Fare Extraordinare's incredible design team had it all figured out. Rachael assigned one of her catering staff to me and my new husband for the evening and he made sure we had everything we needed. She kept us on track as far as timing went and there was no need to have a coordinator because she had EVERYTHING under control. The food was amazing and my guests are still talking about it nearly two months later! We had a cheese array setup during the cocktail hour and I actually didnt' get to see the full setup until I saw my wedding photos but it was the most beautiful display of cheeses and honey I have ever seen... and for people to walk up to me during the reception and say "This the best wedding we've ever been to - have you tried this food?" it is easy to recommend A Fare Extraordinare to anyone who asks!

City Kitchen Catering

( 1.0 / 5.0 )
I would NOT recommend City Kitchen to anyone. With our reception at the Houston Museum of Natural Science we were limited to 4 catering companies for food and one, City Kitchen, for beverages due to liquor licensing. I booked my reception at the Museum over one year before my wedding to secure the Museum and began communications with City Kitchen at that time regarding both food and beverage. When they were not responsive (6 months later) about a possible menu or pricing we began talking to other caterers. The menus they provided were fine but not impressive and the price was not really a factor whether we contracted them to provide food and drink or just drink the price was about the same and their customer service was completely lacking so we decided to have them for beverages only. After many emails and calls from us with no response or the occasional response that started with an apology like "I'm so sorry it's taken us so long to get back to you, we've been absolutely swamped with events in the last few weeks" which read more like "I'm sorry that it's taken over 4 weeks for us to get back to you, we are working on a day by day basis and cannot plan ahead so that we are not scrambling at the last minute". We finally had a complete and correctly figured contract the Wednesday before the Saturday of my wedding. During the event the bartenders seemed unaware of when the event should have been over so the DJ had played the last song and the overhead lights were on before the bar decided to stop serving my guests. It was my understanding that we were to have "last call" 15 minutes before the end of the event so people would not be surprised about the event being over but evidently (and not surprisingly) that was not communicated to the City Kitchen staff. Since our wedding we have been working to get a finalized contract with accurate charges on it. They tried to charge us for over 10 additional bottles of champagne than we served and more guests than we had attend. City Kitchen is not running a tight ship and has shown no sign of improvement over the last 14 months when we've been attempting to work with them - I would encourage anyone looking at their services to continue looking - it's not worth the dedication required for tracking them down to provide mediocre, yet highly priced and very apologetic, service.
