OPTION #2 FRONT
INVITATIONS INSPIRATION: Handmade, recycled, green, orange, brown, pocketfolds, eco ribbon.
RING BEARER BOWL: Had to get this precious thing. It's really tiny.
FLOWER GIRL: My niece below who's going to be wearing that exact same dress.
MAIDS OF HONOR: I will have two maids of honor, my sister and my cousin. Some ideas for dresses. I would like them to be green with brown ribbon like below or orange with brown ribbon. I like these styles though. They can choose strapless or not.
GROOM & BEST MEN: We're also having two best men, I'd like the groom to wear a nice orange tie like this one or a nice green tie like the vest...I like the idea of having the best men having a different color suite.
BOUTONNIERES: Some ideas.
MY DRESS IDEAS: I have no clue what I want yet, but I'm thinking something that just drops maybe, I don't prefer strapless but who knows what I'll end up picking up. I really love that middle one!
BOUQUETS: I want orange to POP! I really love how calla lilies look.
HAIR: Some ideas...
CAKE: Photo from weddingstar magazine. I want this cake exactly as it looks but I can't figure out how the little branches are made. I'll probably just have a flower or two. I already have the same doves, they are the cutest thing :) I got the popular "I DO" letters for the cake table in white also. I'll have orange/red/yellow petals around the cake table with 9 votives around it, grouped in 3.
ADDITIONAL DECORATIVE ITEMS: For certain tables.
AISLE: I decided paper pomanders since is cheaper, I got this from MarinaG. Lovely aren't they? She had both green and brown down the aisle, I think I want to do orange and brown.
CENTERPIECES: Because the place is set up to have dinner, and then go downstairs to the ballroom, I gotta make sure the centerpieces are not too much work since they won't be enjoyed for too long :( I thought about decorating both downstairs and upstairs but it may be too costly. But I think I want to do small manzanita branches for the dinner tables and have the staff bring some downstairs, and also have the laced vases & votives in other tables. I hope it turns out ok. Orange petals will be around the centerpieces & vases.
It happened Dec 28th, 2008. We spend Christmas in Miami with my family, it was nice but very tiring, one thing after the next with not much rest. My back was hurting so much, I missed my bed. We came home Dec 27th, a Saturday. Late flight, so we ended up getting to base around 3:30am. That Sunday, I had my friend's surprise baby shower on base. I got up around 12pm to decorate, it finished closer to 5pm.
While I was at the baby shower, Ryan had told me he was going to get a couple of gifts he didn't have a chance to get me, so we'd open presents that night. I came back from the shower and he was still gone so I finished wrapping my presents and put them under our little tree. He got home, wrapped his presents and told me he only had a present and a half…because he couldn't find what he was looking for. It didn't matter, I was excited to give him my presents because I knew he'd like them and they'd be very useful. We opened presents. The weird part was that he gave me a ring, and two boxes of giant tulips to plant before Spring. I thought it was weird, the ring was wrapped in nothing but paper, it was tiny. But it was cute cause the seeds he labeled "to US from God". awwwwwwww....yeah....now you go "awwwwwwwwwwww". Ok...
He told me he had something else in the car, he got up and went outside. I figured they were flowers (since you can't wrap flowers). And they were! beautiful red roses. As I was picking up wrappings and boxes, he popped his head in the kitchen with the roses and I said: "awwwwwwwww!!!!!" they were lovely...so I gave him hugs and kisses. He started talking (still hugging) and he said "I love you, and I will love you forever…so" (I'm sure he said more...) and when he reached into his pocket, I screamed, ran away and threw the roses on the kitchen counter, screaming and crying uncontrolably. He had gotten down in one knee but he had to get up because I couldn't stay still, so he got up and hugged me as I cried and cried and cried…..apparently during the running away and crying, he asked "will you marry me?" but I didn't hear a thing, so when he got up to hug me, and calm me down, I pulled back and said: "wait, you haven't even asked me!!!" and he said "I did, but you didn't hear me" we both laughed and he asked again "will you marry me" and I said "YES! I will marry you! I will marry you!!!" and then it was more crying and laughing and hugging and kissing. Until eventually we both calmed down and I got to looking at the ring for the first time very carefuly.
My first reaction: whaaaaa??? It's different..... After looking at it, I said "is it supposed to be like this???" because the sides of the box are uneven and the box itself is not straight on the actual band. And to my relief, he said "yeah...and it was designed by Frank Gehry". Me: "OOOOOOOOoooooooh! Wow!!! Really??????" Now it all made sense. The more I looked at it, the more I fell in love with it and now, I realize it's everything I wanted, nothing I expected…it's perfect. It's very unique and simple, just like I wanted, it doesn't get stuck to anything!!! and it looks beautiful all by itself.
I always thought I wanted what I thought was a magical romantic engagement, where you're surrounded by candle lights, moonlight, rose petals and wine. Probably by the beach or some thing. But I know that the magic is not in the setting or the candle light, it's definetly in the moment when everything you want happens and when the man of your dreams tells you he wants to be with you for the rest of his life. That's the magic, that's the romance. I wouldn't have wanted anything else, it was perfect, just the two of us, like we always are, in our home where we love to be with eachother and where we're going to be forever.
And now …let the planning begin!
