At David's Bridal (DB) you have to be slightly independent & a self starter/mover. We found my dress in one day at the Lynnwood DB. I had the help of 2 of my sisters which probably made a big difference too. We are all very proactive & decisive. Our employee lady was fairly helpful, & after trying on many dresses ran off to find a certain one that she remembered based on our comments & it ended up being THE dress. & it was on sale! $490 down from $800 in September. Thank you DB. I have received constant compliments on the dress & never seen anyone else in one like it. Go to Dillard's online though for bridesmaid dresses, better prices huge selection just search for evening dresses. One star is lost for DB's complete lack of Petite sizes! if you are below 5' 2" (I'm 5' 0") a lot of the busts, trains, torsos, arm holes, &/or sleeves will be too long which either looks stupid (& they try to tell you it looks okay) or requires expensive alterations. They would NOT order in petite's for me to try on, unless i paid for the dress first & then there are NO returns, ri-friggin-diculous!! Who would buy a dress without trying it on first??? (i fortunately found a regular strapless which worked for my body) The second star is lost for their alterations department. Since my dress was way too long due to my afor mentioned vertical challenge, I needed the back & the front hemmed for it to look proportionate when bustled. They will ONLY hem the front & a little to the sides because hemming the back is considered altering the original design & is not allowed. Plus they charged around $185 to hem just the front half & make a 3-point bustle (needed because of the excess train and it made my back side look huge). I found an independent seamstress who did the entire 4+ layer tulle hem all the way around & managed a sleeker 1-point bustle beautifully for only $100. Maybe go there, after you've been to a couple other places & have an idea of what you're looking for. We also found my mother's dress at the Burlington location while browsing on a whim (she already had an okay dress planned but this one was better) & even though the poor girl Jessica was obviously running around for a couple brides, she took a minute to open a room for us & later found a good foundation garment that made all the difference. Thankyou Jessica in Burlington!

Sentimental Preservation

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
I really feel like I got archival quality preservation going through Simone's Sentimental Preservation. I can look at my dress every year & also keep the extras like gloves, veil & some photos in with it. The boxes can take up some space & need to be kept lying flat so don't forget to take that in to account. My box is kinda big so we keep shuffling it around, & I probably should have gotten a size smaller. When I went to pick it up, we had some trouble talking in person to confirm the time so I left a phone message the last minute before I headed there & when I arrived she'd skipped her exercise class that she'd been headed to. Good customer service & knowledge about the products.

Judith Ann Inn

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
This was a last minute unplanned honeymoon, & it was the most wonderful surprise ever. As we drove up to the entrance I couldnt keep my mouth shut as I realized we were going to be staying in a gorgeous white mansion by the sea. I took photos like crazy. When we walked into the Bridal Suite, I could barely contain my tears of happiness. It was stunning, elegant & so rich looking. There is a Jacuzzi & fireplace in the living room with windows looking out to the ocean. The bed is humongous, the kitchen is full size, & we had the whole mansion to ourselves for three day. It was like living in a home, but a much nicer home than Ive ever stayed in. The inn is at Ocean Shores, WA which has lots of cute tourist shops, you have to go to their toy stores, & the local restaurants have fantastic seafood. We had so many oyster shooters, & brought lots of fresh clams & shrimp back to our house to prepare ourselves. The locals are also extremely friendly, stopping to chat and give advice if you approach them. Theyre obviously happy there too. The location is great as were just around the corner from the beach access way, you can drive your vehicle ON the beach, & a great day trip is to head up to Lake Quinalt & see the rain forest. We saw lots of wildlife, took lots of beautiful photos, hours of beachcombing, & had the most romantic fun ever. Thankyou Amy for all your help too!

Wedding Your Way

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Len was incredibly helpful & patient with my present husband & me while we were planning our wedding (1-11-09). First, and at the time most importantly, he worked with our budget limitations. Second he has the warmest, supportive, & calm personality that really inspires confidence on your wedding day. Third, he's very flexible, even allowing my honey to write the entire ceremony. We didn't have a rehearsal dinner, so about 1/2 hour before the ceremony he spent about 5-10 minutes with my bridal party & me to organize procedures & positions. We ended up looking like we knew what we were doing, when in reality it was all outlined last minute. =D Later that evening, guests told me how much they loved his presence & the ceremony. He has a speaking voice that I can only describe as 'it reaches out & touches your heart'. I would strongly recommend him to anyone.

Glynne Davies Makeup and Hair On-Location

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Glynne was so much fun to work with on my wedding day. I hadnt looked into getting a hair/makeup person until the last couple weeks before because I thought Id try doing it myself to save money. My normal look is very plain; I use next to no make-up & frequently wear none at all. Eventually I realized for my evening, winter, indoor wedding I needed something different. Fortunately because of it being off season she and several others were available, but ultimately she was the person I felt most comfortable with. I even asked for an off season discount & she was very reasonable. First, Glynne is very organized, excellent at being able to get ahold of, & punctual. Even though she was in the middle of two big household moves, she replied quickly to my emails & phone calls! Second, her make-up kit is VERY extensive. Variety is something that would be seriously lacking if youre thinking of doing your make-up yourself or having a friend do it. Third, her artistic eye captured just the perfect sophisticated look I never would have dared try myself. Plus she balanced uneven facial features. Its awkward to say, but everyone kept going on about how beautiful I was, my fiancee was in tears & even I was stunned that simple, natural me could look so special (but not overly made up). The make-up & hair lasted all night too. My natural hair is bone straight & very hard to curl, but the curls never got droopy. If I'd done them myself, it would have been a mess in no time flat. Before contacting her, I had talked to one salon lady in the area but got a really uncomfortable feeling as it seemed like she wasnt at all interested in wedding make-up/hair, didnt ask any important questions such as formality, time of day, or veil style & strongly emphasized that she didnt do up-dos. After looking online I also decided I did NOT like airbrushing as it looked too mannequin-ish. Glynne started asking professional questions as soon as we talked on the phone, she was enthusuastic, & I learned a lot from her too during the experience. Thankyou Glynne!

The Mobile Music System with Tom Lafferty

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Tom came recommended to me from a coworker that had him as the DJ at her wedding several years ago. She said that he was very affordable, had a wide music selection & a great DJ. I had the same experience. He was a little hard to get ahold of at first as we kept playing phone tag. It was the holiday season & I was multitasking wedding stuff like crazy. Once we nailed down the details & confirmed his availability we met & discussed music. Now my honey & I have very different music tastes from the rest of our families, but we wanted our guests to enjoy the music as much as we did. & suffice it to say, they LOVED it!! They kept going on about what a great soundtrack we prepared, what great taste we had in music, & how much fun it was. It was hard to even get off the dance floor because the music was so fun. We never could have picked such cool music or kept everyone happy like he did. Other than a few soft rock singers & ex-girlfriend songs that were completely banned, he arranged everything. He showed up early, dressed nice, & worked with my sisters at setting up everything in the perfect discrete location. Thankyou Tom!

Delicious lactose-free cakes! Multiple tiers & lots of flavor choices. When we first looked for a lactose-free wedding cake, we could only find Vegan cakes. But after trying several, we just did not love their flavors or textures, plus they could only do two tiers or it would collapse. The big chains like Safeway & QFC will not/ can not do lactose free, & even the few small local bakeries we questioned would not do them. Judy was not only willing, she had experience making them. She met with us initially to do a tasting & it was so nice to finally be given LOTS of choices in fillings, cake flavor, frostings & all lactose free. Her unique cake style that emphasizes several creamy flavorful fillings instead of lots of bread-y cake was also a strong selling point. We ended up with a lovely light creamy, three tiers, hazelnut, and cappuccino cake (which we never could have gotten if we went with vegan style). Things did seem a little disorganized as she never had time to get together in person to do a final tasting of all the layers & fillers together or see the decorations ahead of time so it ended up thrown together at the last minute, but I was more concerned about taste & was very satisfied. Update: Past one year now & she hasn't contacted us about our anniversary cake ... I guess I should call her but it feels odd to have to request a service that she already received money for & I feel 'naggy'. Well it's my first (hopefully only) marriage so this may be standard operating procedure for wedding cakes. If you can't handle disorganization think twice.
