Pamper me Pretty

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Nothing but rave reviews for Pamper Me Pretty! The Pretty Boutique in Vancouver offers mobile hair and makeup to save you and your girls the trouble and time of travelling to a salon. I found this salon just one week prior to my wedding after my original hair stylist reneged on me. Luckily the wedding was on a Sunday, since Pamper Me Pretty does get booked up quickly! The packaged deals are a reasonable price, especially considering the effortlessly gorgeous work they do on hair. My stylist was incredibly efficient, styling my four bridesmaids, my mom, flower girl, and me in only a few hours, with unique styles for each lovely lady. With years of experience under her belt, the stylist knew exactly how many pins and how much hairspray to use so that our hair withstood the sweltering August heat and even lasted till our second banquet the next night. Check it out!

Garlands Florist

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
One of the highlights of Wedding Fair was getting a deal on a wedding package from Garlands Florist. What first attracted me and my husband to Garlands was their display of original designs for corsages. Mostly, corsages are the same ho-hum flower-with-a-pin-in-it, but Garlands had this unique hoop with Kermit mum accents which my husband just had to have for the men of the wedding party. Garlands really took into account our taste and budget, choosing fresh flowers with a fresh style and filling our church with delicate breaths of fresh air. I couldn't have loved the flowers more. In addition, the staff is well-versed in their own flower-speak and chose beautiful in-season flowers in our wedding colours. Definitely don't walk in demanding roses everywhere, because you'll miss out on their knowledge of local fauna that will really light up your wedding.

Lisa's Bridal Salon

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
The sheer amount of bridal stores lining the bridal mecca in New Westminster can feel overwhelming when you first begin your search for the perfect dress. Having personally checked out everyone of these stores, I highly recommend that you head straight to Lisa's Bridal and forget the rest. The dress styles there are original, unlike the plethora of carbon copy styles you would see elsewhere, and the material is of a smooth, sumptuous silk, rather than the rough plastic-like taffeta of other stores. I went during a trunk sale (15-20% off!) and chose an Anjolique creation that was absolutely gorgeous, embroidered with Swarovski crystals and gorgeous embellishments. The expertise of the staff in satisfying the customer from the first appointment to the last fitting impressed me. My one concern was that the sales associate recommended I order a size larger than I normally wear with the rationale that wedding gowns fit small, and I ended up paying over $400 in alterations to take it in by an entire size, but I've heard this happens at most bridal shops, so it's buyer beware. Overall, any prospective brides should round up their bridesmaids and find their perfect dress here!

Louisa Alterations

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Louisa Alterations, located on the bottom level of the Richmond Public Market, is a hidden gem. I've heard to never, ever have wedding apparel altered at a specified wedding store, since those stores jack up the prices, and it's true. I needed four bridesmaid dresses hemmed, and one taken in a size, and the bridal store charged quadruple the amount that I ended up paying at Louisa Alterations. Louisa Alterations did a fantastic job hemming the delicate double layer bridesmaid dresses, and took one dress in a size seamlessly. Also, they offered me two options when taking in the dress size so that I could choose the more price-conscious method, instead of charging for the more expensive one without consulting me. It is cash-only though, so go prepared!

Wired Digital

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
A solid piece of advice is quoted on Wired Digital's website: "Here's the most important thing you need to know about wedding pictures: Book the best photographer you can afford as soon as you set the date. The wedding music will fade, the flowers will die, and you won't remember if you ate, let alone what you ate, at the reception. But the wedding pictures last forever." Some might think that's just a plug for photographers, since this is their site, but it's completely truthful advice. Now that my wedding is over, there are only two things that are still with me (other than my husband, that is) the photos and the wedding video. All of your memories will lie in that one, beautiful varnished book on your coffee table with a gorgeous you filling the pages, reminding you of the happiest day of your life. Melvin and his wife were top-notch professionals, composing our shots with creativity, capturing the most precious moments of our wedding, and being prompt with prints and the elaborate photo-book. An engagement shoot is included in the price of the package, and you get all of the photos edited on a DVD to make as many prints as you like no need to pay the expensive studio-price for prints, just take them to Superstore, although Melvin will develop prints professionally for you if you want the best quality, and of course prints are included in your package. Highly recommended.

Diplomat Bakery

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Diplomat Bakery is the best bakery in Richmond, hands down. I first heard about it when my friend raved about their White Chocolate Baileys cake (isn't your mouth watering already?) and the moment I tried their Espresso Fudge cake, I vowed never to eat from another bakery again. I know other people swear by True Confections or Death by Chocolate, but Diplomat Bakery far surpasses them in caliber with their fresh ingredients, reasonable prices, and mind-blowing flavours. For my wedding I ordered slab cakes of their legendary Diplomat cake, Espresso Fudge, and Triple Chocolate Mousse. Everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, ate as many slices of cake as they could get their forks in, even harassing waiters for any leftovers. Diplomat's cakes are so delicious that even in my corseted wedding gown, and the wedding night still to come, I couldn't resist eating a piece of each flavor. It's just that good!

Davids Bridal

( 3.0 / 5.0 )
When looking for a budget-friendly bridesmaid dress, I took a drive south of the border to Burlington just for David's Bridal. Their dresses are mostly simple, elegant designs. However, there were a few problems which I cannot overlook just because my bridesmaids looked stunning in my pictures! Firstly, the smallest size available is not very small at all! If you have bridesmaids who are sized 0 or XS usually, you're going to have to alter the dress afterwards. Secondly, there were very few sizes available to try on, and since my bridesmaids were not sized 16 or 20, it was hard to judge the cut of the dresses. First rant: the staff measured my bridesmaids and guaranteed that their sizing was correct, but in the end every single one of the dresses came in the wrong size. Also, there weren't many colours available in store to look at, which leads me to another rant. I ordered my dresses in a certain shade of lavender, and had the staff double and triple check the colour code when ordering in, since the colour wasn't in store. After I drove the two hours to go pick them up, the dresses were there in the wrong colour! I had to reorder all of the dresses for colour and size, which seemed a little ridiculous to me. Overall, although the dresses were beautiful, their staff didn't impress me at all with their knowledge of the merchandise and the store.

Realistically Fictional Productions

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
There's almost no need for a review! Just go to their website and click on their Wedding Portfolio the montage of my wedding video is there! Basically, RF Productions is a team headed by an amazingly talented, driven, and people-oriented videographer who puts his all into capturing the memorable moments of your wedding, and then turning it into a master showcase of your sweetest day. He has state-of-the-art equipment, including a steadycam, which is how the 360 shots are created smoothly. The final product we received included a 2-hr version of our wedding, a 20 minute short, and a 4 minute montage so that we could choose which to show depending on our time. We also received three copies of the DVD, which comes complete with a personalized cover and case, and have a blu-ray version on coming on the way.

Tantra Fitness

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
Bridesmaids, take note pole dancing is the choice of activity for a bachelorette. Do you really think your friend wants to be paraded downtown dressed in silly clothes and embarrassing herself in front of perfect strangers? Take her pole dancing instead! There are all the risqu elements involved sex, loud music, and alcohol, basically but you also get an amazing workout at the same time. We had a private session with an instructor, and I think about a dozen poles to work with, and we were taught a super sexy routine of hip wiggling and turns. At the end there's the option of learning a lap dance for the lucky husband-to-be, which definitely turns up the heat on the wedding night! I put a rating of 4 only because depending on the instructor, the lesson can be more, or less, fun, but overall I loved pole-dancing so much I couldn't shut up about it for weeks afterwards. Added bonus, everyone gets a voucher for a free class!
