Turley's Florist

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Turleys florist was great, I only ordered my bouquet from them. I visited a couple months before the wedding and told them the kind of flowers I wanted in the arrangement and the amount I wanted to spend and they let me know what could and could not work. The bouquet was ready during pick up and looked great!

We picked Don because he works a lot of the weddings at Tigh na mara. He has tons of experience and has any song you want in his collection. He was set up in plenty of time before the reception. He even played some bhangra songs as per our request during the wedding. He also accommodated many requests our guests had for songs to play.

Betty Gabrysh, Marriage Commissioner

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
I phoned the Officiant that my fiancs cousin used last summer and found out that he was busy on the day of my wedding. He recommended a part time officiant, Betty, since many other officiants on the island were getting booked up already. Betty and I emailed and talked on the phone a lot, and she sent over some sample ceremonies we could consider if we didnt want to write our own vows. She was great and a lot of help.

Spence Diamonds

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
My fianc picked out my engagement ring by himself so Im reviewing this based on the story he told me. He went and visited them on a weekday while I was away on business and said that it was great. They let him know how their store works, he browsed around, didnt get pressured and found a few settings that he liked and sat down with a salesperson who asked him what his budget was and brought in some diamonds for him to look at. He felt like he learned a lot about diamonds, they spend a lot of time explaining why one diamond is better than the other, or why sometimes you can go with a slightly cheaper diamond and not notice the difference. He was only one of two customers in the store that night so they really lavished attention on him. Their weekends are much busier and youll usually have to wait for a salesperson. We went back together for our wedding bands and they were quick to order them for us. My husband surprised me in a diamond eternity band on the wedding day and he had to purchase a ready made band from Spence because they were unable to order one in time for the wedding. He said the service was great again and they had a good selection and since they had my size on file there was no problem picking out a size

Thirza took tons of great beautiful pictures during the wedding, family photos and during the ceremony. We talked before the wedding about what kind of photos I would like taken and she made sure to arrange family how I wanted it arranged and managed to get into some photos herself (shes my sister in law).

Thrifty Foods

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
A family friend who was going to make our cake for us bailed last minute so we had to go to Thriftys and see if they could make our cake for us so close to the wedding. My mother in law did all the arrangements, it was a two tiered wedding cake, chocolate and carrot (delicious!) , she gave them a picture of a cake that I liked and they recreated it. They did a beautiful job.

Lisa's Bridal Salon

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
Great Service, I went there three times before I chose my dress. The sales person each time was very nice and helpful, she didnt make us feel rushed during our last visit when we went over their closing time. The alterations department was also great, I mistakenly went a day earlier than my appointment and they accommodated me anyway. The alterations turned out great and it wasnt very expensive. Lisas Bridal gives you a discount on the mens tuxes if you purchased your dress from them. My fianc and I were able to make an appointment and choose the colors and outfits for the groomsmen ahead of time and arrange to have the guys drop by to get fitted. On the day we were supposed to pick the suits up, they were obviously very busy with it being wedding season. They should have anticipated the number of people that needed to get fitted and called an extra person (or two) in because we were early for our appointment and there was the party ahead of us still needing to be helped out. Even though the guys came in a couple weeks before to get fitted all the pants and jackets were the wrong size, there really wasnt any point of them getting measured ahead of time if they were going to do it again when we picked up the suits. It was pretty annoying and while their organization for the wedding dresses was great, they need to look at providing the same service on their Mens attire

Making Memories with Scrapbooking

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
I had an idea that I would draw a caricature of me and my fianc for the front of our invitation because its a drawing that many of my friends have seen before and would recognize. This scrapbooking store was recommended to me by my gf. Talking to the owner, she was able to show me some invitations that they have created before and helped me and my sister and mother create a unique invitation. All I needed to do was write up all the wording and make a jpeg of the caricature. It took a week for her to do up the typesetting and I came in and approved it. The prices are pretty varied depending on what it is you decide to do, but for a wedding in Vancouver island where I had to include with the invitations (85) a card with transportation details and accomadations as well as the save the date, it cost between $350-400. The only thing I needed to do with assemble the invitations with some ribbon and purchase the envelopes (I had to purchase these at a different store as this store did not have the color that I wanted).

Kiyo Salon and Day Spa

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
I went to this salon on my sister in laws recommendation. I phoned and explained that I was getting married in Parksville at Tigh na mara and if I could make an appointment a couple months before the wedding to try out some wedding hair styles I was thinking of for the wedding. I had my appointment and Philip the hair dresser was great, made tons of suggestions after asking about the type of wedding we were going to have, we tried out a couple styles and he made some suggestions on what I should bring on the day of the wedding. The salon didnt charge for me to come in and have Philip play with my hair which was great! My hair on the day of turned out great, and since it was a down-do it wasnt very expensive at all. He gave my sisters some tips on how to fix my hair throughout the day and showed them how to change the style if I wanted it up after the ceremony.

Balloon Emporium

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
I met up with Karen at Tigh na mara before the wedding and she gave me some ideas on how to decorate the room with balloons. She had tons of pictures from previous weddings that I could chose from and also made up some decorations to suit our wedding. We chose to have some balloon streamers for all the doorways as well as some lighted balloon dividers for the side of the room. She created bride and groom balloon people to decorate the cake table with that were so cute! The room was made up beautifully and they set up and were finished way before the reception started. She doesnt do just balloons, she created this beautiful lighted backdrop in the front of the room at the reception to cover up some doors that were behind the wedding party table. She also came in after the wedding to take down all the decorations. Karens balloons would make a great addition to any party.

Perfect Bridal

( 3.0 / 5.0 )
I found this website that sells the same bridesmaids dresses in Bridal stores only theyre waaay cheaper. They purchase them right from the designers and I purchased three Mori Lee bridemsaids dresses for 100 each and they retailed at over 300 (this was US dollars before the Canadian dollar started tanking). My bridesmaids each chose a different dress but all in the same colour, cornflower blue. When speaking to the sales rep on the phone, she recommended I get the dresses delivered in Seattle to save on duty (my bridesmaids dad lives in Seattle) so I took her up on her suggestion. I was only able to pick up the dresses a couple weeks after delivery and sadly realized when I opened the box that one of the dresses was in a different hue of blue than the other two. I phoned the customer care number and was told (after my long angry rant) that I needed to have called 2 days after delivery if there was anything wrong with the dress in order to get a full refund (this was fine print in the contract I signed that I didnt read). So they could not refund me the dress but would rush order another one at no cost to me (the wedding was in 3 months by then) and the delivery to my Vancouver address would be free. While I was disappointed that I had to pay for another dress, in the long run, three dresses cost me $400 and they the customer service agent did try to help me as much as she could. This is a good company to use but make sure you get the dresses delivered to you and to look at them right after.

Rodrigo Figueroa

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Rodrigo played the guitar while the guests were milling around the gazebo waiting for the ceremony to start, while the wedding party walked down the aisle and during the reception. His music was beautiful and he was tons of fun (we asked him to join in during the party after the reception ;)). He played the entire time while we were eating (I have no idea how he did it, his fingers must have been numb by the end of dinner) and made our day a little extra special.

Chairs with Flair Seat Cover Co.

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Chairs with Flair were great. I needed chair covers for the venue at Tigh na mara and all the seat cover companies on the island charge an arm and a leg. I found out about Chairs with Flair just by googling seat covers in Vancouver and they had the best deal! I went to the owners house and she set up a chair with the color I asked for and we discussed how to get the covers to the island, payment etc.. She charges $33 to deliver the 80 chair covers and sashes (2 boxes), and I think it was $4 for each cover and sash. The chairs arrived on a greyhound in Nanaimo and my parents dropped them off the Monday after the wedding (on Saturday). The chair covers were beautiful!
