Judy Basha Designs

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Although primarily a PVC and dare to wear designer, Judy did the most amazing job designing and constructing my wedding dress based off a single picture for inspiration. Not being afraid to totally deviate from the norm, Judy put together a fantastic royal blue satin dress with a real corset and medieval bell sleeves (who better than a corset maker to give you a corset!). Judy was amazing, doing several fittings, being really honest about body shape and type, and the dress she made is testament to her great work. It got carted across two continents, and is so great that I can even use the pieces separately as formal wear. Shes extremely talented and has an amazing eye!

Staples (Vancouver BC)

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
Although its pretty easy to spend thousands of dollars on custom invitations, including Save-the-dates, Staples has a great selection of pre-made templates, high quality paper, envelopes, labels, and other stationary to let you do it yourself. Also, you can use Staples copy centre to make colour printouts or copies a whole lot cheaper than going to a professional printer, and they will often do finishing (stapling, collating, cutting to size, etc.) for you at a really cheap rate.

Wrapture Wire Jewelry

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Custom made the most amazing necklace and headpiece out of sterling silver wire and semi-precious stones. Dianne worked with me to design a truly unique set of jewelry, she did up great drawings of how everything should look, and sent me pictures throughout the process. She also made my 2 bridesmaids necklaces, based off rough drawings that I made, and turned both drawings into the most amazing pieces of one of a kind jewelry, using precious metals and stones. Both girls were thrilled, and still wear the necklaces which have held up after several years wear. Beautiful artisan work that is truly unique.

Peake of Catering

( 1.0 / 5.0 )
Whatever you do, do NOT go with this caterer. Having heard great reviews about their food, I went to an event where they were on contract as the caterer, and was decidedly unimpressed. Apparently once they receive a contract, the food quality disappears. The lunch was a disgusting rice casserole made with the sausages recycled from a previous breakfast, as they were chewy and hard. The selection was minimum, the flavour was bland, if not nonexistent, and it didnt look like any of their food was prepared fresh. Even the salad was wilted and the dressings came out of a can.

Arthur Murray (Vancouver BC)

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
I purchased a package of lessons for my husband and I to learn a dance routine for our first dance. While the package was a bit expensive, we got a lot of one on one attention with a great and patient dance instructor. They put up with my husbands two left feet, me always trying to lead, and choreographed a simple but elegant routine to a piece of music we chose. They gave us lots of time, and even wrote out the routine for us so that we could take it home and practice. We had a lot of fun and are planning to go back to learn some more dance styles!

Tartan Town

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
If youre looking for a Scottish flair to your wedding, are, like me, of Scottish ancestry, or just love the look of a man in a kilt, you may have considered having your groom or groomsmen wear a kilt in your wedding. Tartan Town has full Scottish regalia available for rent in a number of tartans. They dont have a huge selection of different clan tartans, so if youre looking for a specific type of kilt, you may want to just buy your own (especially if your last name is relatively uncommon), but you can still rent the Prince Charlie jacket, sporran, brogues, hose, and all the other accoutrements here. For my Scottish-themed wedding, it was really great to have a place in town to pick up favors for my bridal party without having to go to the expense of ordering them online. They have a nice (although limited) selection of Scottish crystal; scotch glasses and decanters, mugs, and stemware, as well as several pewter and sterling silver Quaichs (the traditional Scottish "loving cup") which made really touching additions to our ceremony, and meaningful gifts to those people who did so much for us. We also received several gifts purchased there, including detailed models of Scottish castles that we visited on our honeymoon.

Blanche Macdonald Centre

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Being a girl with really long hair, getting any kind of hair treatment can be really expensive. Since I needed to get highlights done for my wedding, I was expecting to pay close to $200, until someone recommended me to Blanche MacDonald. Its a school for hair and esthetics, and they run a salon for the students, which offers pretty much all the services of a regular salon. The great part is that its about a quarter of the price. The drawbacks are that it takes a bit longer to get it done, and theyre only open weekdays during the day, but the highlights looked great, were professional quality, and only cost $50.

Pacific Palisades Hotel

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
A very nice hotel in the heart of downtown Vancouver. This hotel has a really interesting, funky dcor based on a retro 60s theme in bright citrus colours, and interesting angles. The room we had was bright and spacious, with a full suite, kitchenette, and a great view of Coal Harbour. The hotel is located right on Robson street, so its very close to a lot of great restaurants, wine merchants, and a great chocolate store! The hotel staff is friendly, the check-in was fast, and their dine-in breakfast menu was very tasty. The rooms are pretty pricy, but if youre up for a splurge, its worth it.
