A & J Tailor & Alterations

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
I think its a big thing, trusting someone with your wedding dress, especially since I had spent so much time searching for the dress. I went to A&J because they came recommended to me from other co-workers. I went in with my dress and was able to speak with Alice. She was really nice, and she looked over the dress carefully and told me that it would be no problem. She put me to ease right away, letting me know that the alteration were really simple, and then took down all the wedding date details so that we could figure out how soon the dress needed to be taken care of. Everything was ready on time, the dress fit perfectly, and since then I have brought in some older dresses to take in.

Juut Salonspa

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
My mother took my sister and my best friend and me for a spa day for my wedding shower. My knows me well enough to know that I wouldnt have felt comfortable having another party for me because I dont like being at the center of attention. My mom also said that it was time I started getting into a beauty regime because my nice skin wouldnt last forever. We went to Juut Salon Spa, which was a really calm place once you walked inside. It was a day of firsts, and I had my first hand massage and body massage. I have never felt so relaxed in my entire life. The staff knew that this was my first time and put me at ease right away. I think it was a great present, because I lost so much stress that day. The staff there is great, and I made an appointment for myself later to have a facial and my make-up done. I now agree with my mom that this is a necessity and that a person should make time for themselves, whether theyre getting married or not, to make their bodies feel good.

Flowers on the Park

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
This is rather near where Andrews parents live, and they know the store very well. I went in with Andrew and his mother, and we spoke with someone about bouquets and corsages and simple centerpieces. The restaurant said that we could bring in our own flowers, which I loved, but it seemed kind of hard to think of what would suit the atmosphere of the restaurant. Seeing as the bridesmaids had fuchsia dresses, and the bridal party had a vintage look, we came up with very simple and elegant centerpieces. They were very small, but they added small splashes of color rather than big bursts of color. I loved how subtle the flowers were, how great the staff was to work with. Everything was delivered on time, the cost was just right, and everything worked out very well.

Rewind

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
Andrew and I are big fans of Johnny and June Carter Cash, and I wanted my wedding dress to look just like hers. Short, with long sleeves, and lacy. There arent too many pictures from their wedding day, but I would say that her dress looked like a mod sixties style dress. I have lost quiet a bit of weight over the years, almost 100 pounds, and I loved being able to wear short skirts and show off my legs again. I wanted to be a hot bride on my wedding day! I visited a few vintage stores in the cities, along with a few visits to the Goodwills and Savers. I eventually found my dress at Rewind Vintage. Rewind is a bit more expensive, but the clothes are usually in excellent condition, and really good quality. The dress I had looked like it had never been worn. It was too big, but I know that you can always take in a dress, much more easily that you can let out a dress. I would have loved it if they could have done the hemming and alterations on site, but we brought it to a second party. The total cost of the dress, with a cute beaded purse I found, was $120.

Rock the Garden

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
As life happens, Andrews younger brother went to school at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, was in the English department and became close friends with a guy call Justin (aka Bon Iver). Weve gone to Eau Claire a bunch of times over the years to watch Justin play, and it has been pretty exciting watching his rise to stardom. So, with our wedding date slowly approaching, and as Andrew and I debated over what we could do with our close friends as a his/her bachelor party, we came up with the idea of buying a bunch of tickets to the Rock the Garden Party. Most of our friends are big music fans, so it was easy to convince them to attend. It was a great day of music, lemonade, lots of party food, and watching Justin get swooned over by hundreds of girls that had ignored him before. Oh, and we also got to hang out with the Emma girl. In conclusion, our his/her bachelor party rocked because we brought it to a rock show, and people loved it.

The Limited

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
My bridal party was composed of sister and my best friend, so we only needed to find two dresses. At first, they tried looking at vintage stores, but I am much more comfortable wearing used clothing that either of them. I didnt want to pressure them, but I did want them to be wearing dresses in the same color that were nice. We went to the Brookdale Center and started looking at dresses and found the most amazing and flattering wrap dress in the world at the Limited. This is a store that sells work clothes for women, fairly good quality, average price, but very work office orientated. The dress we found must have been for a work party, because it was this raw silk material in fuchsia, and it was stunning. The skirt went out, so it looked vintage. It was sixty dollars, which was really reasonable for a dress that they would be able to wear again. I bought the same dress in black because its not often you find a great dress. They wore their own shoes and jewelry, and they looked great.

Rainbow's End

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
The restaurant was letting us bring in our own cake, so we looked around at several bakeries to see if we could get a better deal elsewhere. Cakes range from about $1 to $6 a slice, but we were looking at the cheaper end. We also looked at the idea of getting cupcakes, and finally decided to get cupcakes and a small cake for us to cut. We went with Rainbows End, even though they were a bit more expensive than a regular mom and pop bakery because they could make the cake vegan. Im not vegetarian, and neither is Andrew, but my best friend is and we were going to have several vegetarians at the wedding. It also helps take the guilt out of eating two or three cupcakes on the wedding night, which I did. We went to several consultations, and they were just as nice as the other bakeries we visited. It was nice seeing how clean their shop was, too, and I think the selling point was how good they could make vegan chocolate.

Dick and Jane Letterpress

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
We chose Dick and Jane Letterpress because we really like the look of letterpress. I think its really classy, and its not something that can easily be reproduced. We looked into making the invitations, and getting the stamps and paper and all the supplied, and we quickly calculated that the costs of getting the supplies to make 100 cards would easily be the same as ordering 100 cards. We had a wedding budget of about $5000, which is a lot more than we thought we would have, and it fit right in our budget. Also, we were really able to express ourselves creatively with the two owners, who listened to us, offered their input, and made some really beautiful cards. I also want to say that this was the chance to support a local business, so I am aware that you can order cards online for cheap, but we made sure that the money was going into our community.

Kowalski's Markets

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Andrew and I love Kowalskis. Its like the gourmet version of a Whole Foods grocery store, and I think for the most part they use organic ingredients. Andrews parents decided that there should be a small gathering at their place the week before the wedding, and there was talk of grilling, but as the date approached, and more and more family members confirmed that they would be there. Andrews mother wasnt about to make potato salad for thirty people. So with two weeks to go, Andrews mother went down to Kowalskis and arranged to have a cold buffet and dessert platters. I helped with the arranging of the food once it arrived, and they made every tray look amazing. They have lots of choices, and you get lots of food, and it is all so delicious and in excellent quality. Andrew and I were used to splitting sandwiches there, so it was a real treat. I think it was also nice that we were all able to be at his parents house, too, rather than in another restaurant or bar. At that point, we had gone out enough, and it was nice having a calm day but still have delicious and gourmet food.

The Hitching Company

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
I want to let everyone know how Andrew proposed to me, because it really is quiet funny. He suggested that we get hitched one weekend, and said that there was a Hitching Company in town that lets you go for public carriage rides. I must have been totally exhausted from work, because I never thought anything of it. Andrew had reserved a time for us, and prepaid, because I would never have agreed to go on a spontaneous $100 horse ride. Our friend Pete was there, with his camera, and Andrew made the excuse that Pete had never been in a horse carriage before. So the three of us start the ride, and Pete starts snapping away pictures, and Andrew keeps talking about horses, and the way life used to be, and how some traditions are really great. I laughed the whole time, because they were both being strange and wonderful. The ride was really romantic, though, because you get to see some of the nicer places in the city. When the ride ends, and we pull back up to St. Anthonys Main, he gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him. I almost fell off the carriage. It was romantic, and I was so happy that we have pictures!
