D.Edwards Fine Drycleaning

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
My mother took my dress to D.Edwards right after the wedding. Literally. She followed me to my hotel room and made sure I took off the dress properly. There was lots of buttons and lace, so I needed the help getting it off. D.Edwards specializes in cleaning wedding gowns and, after the dress was properly cleaned, the dress was sealed in a box for preservation. I would love to see my dress again, I love my dress so much, but I'm happy that my mother did this for me. I'm going to take the dress out of the box one day, but I'll wait for a special occasion to do so.

Trocadero

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
One week before the wedding date, my father arranged for all the family members on both sides to meet for a late brunch at Trocadero. It's a really nice restaurant, and they have great food and a great ambiance. The menu includes things like great sandwiches and steaks and fries. The Bloody Mary's are also considered some of the best in town, but I wouldn't know since I don't like tomato juice. Even though there was nice weather, we sat inside the restaurant. They also have a really nice patio and, with such nice weather, the patio was packed. My father was able to make reservations for a group of 12 without much difficulty. We were served quickly, the waitress was really great with us, and everyone had a good time.

River Falls Recreation

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
We had a his/her bachelor party, and we planned a whole day event. We started off at River Falls Recreation, mainly because they have a batting cage and the guys wanted to try it out. There's other things to do there, too, like mini golf and go-carting. It was great to go to a place like this as adults and really enjoy our time together doing fun stuff and act like kids!

Vera's House of Bridals

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
I found out about this store from friends in Madison who went to Vera's clearance store in Janesville. Before I went to the clearance store, I decided to book an appointment with one of their bridal consultancy. I had a strong idea of what kind of dress I wanted. I saw the dress in a Vogue magazine in 2003, and I kept the picture with me. They were able to match up the dress to one they had in stock. The dress was a straight cut, with a high front and lace all down the back. Lots of buttons and lace and zippers to fit me in. I think the staff there was amazing. I paid so much less than what I expected, too, for the dress of my dreams. I'm not the typical girl, and I didn't see myself as the typical bride, but I was so happy when I found this dress. Vera's is also a very beautiful place to visit, and they do have trunk shows. I attended one of their trunk shows, just to see what it was about, and it was a lot of fun and I got to see some really beautiful clothes. We went to a Trunk show at Vera's- which was really fun. I had already picked out my dress by the time of the show, but it gave me and my bridesmaids great ideas about what they could wear to the wedding. Very stylish and unique. I liked it a lot because I had never been to a fashion show or trunk show before. I had two bridesmaids, no maids of honor (I really don't think it would have been fair to choose between two people so close to my heart). Because my dress was so different and special, I wanted the bridesmaids dresses to be really simple. I didn't want them to match or look like a party of the same dress family. It may sound strange, but I wanted to stand out. This meant having the bridesmaids wear plan ivory color dresses. The dresses were modern looking, with one shoulder straps, because we were going to have a modern looking wedding. I think, again, that at Vera's we found the best prices for our dresses.

Izumi's

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
At the end of the afternoon (of our His & Her's bachelor party at River Falls Recreation Center) we went to Izumi's Restaurant, a really great sushi restaurant. The restaurant and the recreation center were about a thirty-minute drive apart. We had made reservations ahead of time. Most of the group liked sushi, but there are a few things on the menu non-sushi eaters will like.

I went to a wedding kit seminar at Broadway Paper, where I learned about the different trends in wedding invitations and other things. This was really helpful, and I got lots of good ideas. The seminar is also really short, and it's in the morning, so it doesn't take up a whole day. This was expensive, considering I only needed 50 invitations. But these 50 invitations would be going out to friends and family members that I loved, and I wanted to have something beautiful and unique for them to look at. I think my favorite part was that they hold Bridal Seminars, which means that I was able to go in on a Saturday and learn lots of cute ideas about wedding invitations, name tags, seating charts, and decorations. I like the ideas for centerpieces, because this was one thing I was worried about. I got the supplies for the cards, and I was able to make 50 beautiful invitations on elegant paper. I also got to meet and speak with lots of other brides in the area, and exchange ideas with them. In all, I like this store a lot, and I know I will go visit the store again.

Home & Garden Show

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
When asked where I wanted to register, I explained that what I really wanted was the money to renovate our backyard. Nate and I had bought a house a few years back, and have gradually been investing in the value of the house with repairs and renovations. I wanted a backyard with a water fountain and a small deck. My mother suggested that we go to the Home and Garden Show, which I thought was a great idea. My mom, my close friends and many of my relatives, both male and female, spent the day walking around the exhibits getting ideas about the garden. My family also let me pick out specialty items for my garden, which was really nice of them. Friends also picked out unique bird feeders and other garden pots and things that you wouldn't normally find at a regular store or greenhouse. There's food to eat, places to sit and rest, and it was a really nice and eventful day. I liked it a lot, because I did get lots of idea of how our garden could be. We haven't done big renovations outside yet, just because of the economy, but we hope by 2010 to have the backyard of our dreams.

Cafe Calatrava - Milwaukee Art Museum

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
The museum had a catering company that we had to go with, Catering by Caf Calatrava, but they had an amazing menu and a great reputation that we were fine with the decision. The staff will help you chose between lots of different menus, including different appetizers and entrees to choose between. I liked and really appreciated the diversity in what they offered, and because of the small party, we were able to choose something that everyone would love. The thing to take into consideration is that they do have a minimum ordering price for a party, but it was easy to reach the $1000 minimum. They have a flourless cake, which though intriguing, we went with a regular chocolate. They are also very clear on the prices for their services, so there is no hidden charge at a later date. And they are also able to have a liquor bar, which is good because we wanted the option of having a signature drink for our guests. The chairs and tables are available, but they do have wavering charges on the dishes and linens, if you want more than basic. I think what we choose added to the atmosphere, but we made sure to know what the costs were. The event consultant was very professional and made sure were knew what were the costs for different features. This is a very beautiful reception room at the museum, with beautiful white marble floors and a great view. There is also a terrace that is right off the room, and we were very lucky with the weather and our guests were able to go on the terrace. This room is perfect for a party of 50 to 90 people, but we were exactly 50 people so we had some extra room for dancing. They have larger rooms, and gardens, which run for several thousand dollars to rent for the evening. To rent the Caf cost about $1000. The good thing about going with the museum site is that they are also able to rent to us audio visual equipment that one might need, which we did take advantage of. I think this was a smart decision, because our guests were able to enjoy the artwork in the museum and also we were able to enjoy a very elegant evening overall in the museum. There is a fee for parking in one of the museum parking lots, so it may be wise to inform your guests ahead of time or to offer to pay for their parking yourself. We let our guests know ahead of time, but we also made sure that each guests received a parking pass at the church. It was all well coordinated.

Crystal Limousine & Coach Inc.

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
My mother ordered the limousine, and she chose this vendor because they were the same company our family used for my sister's wedding. We had one arrive at my house and then a second car for the groom's party. The cars were clean, on time, and we were very happy with the service. With all the stress of getting ready and remembering last minute details, I think that we were all pleased with having someone else take care of the driving for the day.
