Nicole Miller

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
I was referred to Nicole Miller bridal by a friend. I didn't even know Nicole Miller had wedding dresses. Apparently, Nicole adds a few to her collection every year, so there are a number of gorgeous elegant dresses created in the Nicole Miller style for weddings. I worked with Shannon Payne and she was fantastic. She knew right away exactly what would work and not work on me, and she had an amazing flair for accessories and alterations. The dress was not as expensive as many others that I looked at at other shops, and everyone at the store was so friendly and accommodating that I felt very pampered. At my wedding, everyone commented on how beautiful the dress was and how in keeping with my own style it was. It was a "1940's-style" gown and everyone said I looked like a movie star (which is pretty nice to hear for your wedding). It was more like an Oscar dress than a wedding gown, but that was the look I was after so I was thrilled.

Aria

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
My bridal party ordered 7 dresses from Aria and I think everyone found something they looked great in. The colors were really dynamic and beautiful and the order arrived on time and was correct.

Autry National Center of the American West

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
We just had our wedding reception at the Autry National Center in Griffith Park. It was fantastic. We had never been to the museum before we went for the tour, and when we got there we were both struck by how beautiful and fun it is. It houses a great collection, from amazing paintings and costumes to more "Disney-type" attractions like the Wyatt Earp shoot-out or a classic stagecoach that you can climb on. We had a number of guests coming in from the East Coast, so we were also proud to expose them to a little bit of the spirit of the west, Hollywood-style. The location did not disappoint. The food, provided by Cheers Catering (they do all of the catering for the museum events), was amazing. We'd both wanted a non-traditional menu, something besides the filet mignon and salmon you get at most weddings. We offered our guests quesadillas, BBQ beef sandwiches and chinese chicken noodle salad. It was all delicious and everyone raved about the food. The best part was that the groom and I actually got to eat at our own wedding because everytime we turned around, there was a server to bring us whatever food we wanted. The caterer, Carolyn Baer at Cheers, was efficient and flexible and didn't mind when I kept changing the order of events or changing the menu. We started with just a dinner and ended up adding cocktails and appetizers. The location manager, Wendy Esensten, was friendly and accommodating, and threw in a couple of unexpected perks for us as well. All of our guests loved the museum and someone even commented that it had seemed like a $50,000 wedding, when in reality it cost just a fraction of that. One big advantage of doing it at the museum as well is that I didn't have to plan any decorating except for the centerpieces and the colors of the table linen. The space and art is beautiful, so you don't have to dress it up at all. Another fantastic thing is that they keep the galleries open so guests can browse through them. We were lucky anough to have the Gene Autry Centennial Exhibition there which incorporated some cool Hollywood western memorabilia into the mix. In addition, there's a ton of parking, a beautiful courtyard, and all the beauty of Griffith Park to greet your guests on their way in. I would highly recommend the Autry National Center.

Krimson Hair Studio

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
I found Krimson Salon because I had 5 bridesmaids and my mother who all wanted their hair done and I wanted to find a place big enough to accommodate us all. Amanda at Krimson was fantastic... although I went for my consultation a mere three weeks before my wedding, she rearranged her schedule and that of other stylists to fit us all in. Amanda is also an amazing stylist. She translated the picture that I had brought in into a fantastic look for my hair and transformed my fine straight hair into an elegant cascade of curls that surprisingly lasted all day and well into the night. Mercedes, the make-up artist there, also created a fantastic look for me based on a photo. She was creative and professional and made good recommendations for me. I would definitely recommend going to Krimson if you're in the Burbank area.

DJ Jon Seltzer

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
We chose Jon Seltzer as the DJ for our wedding because when we met him we had a great conversation about music. We have pretty particular taste in music, but we also like some embarrassing pop and 80's hits. It was nice to have a DJ who is knowledgeable about music but doesn't get condescending or judgmental about what we wanted to play. For our cocktail hour, we even asked if he could provide a mix of reggae and cha cha music which he assembled himself and which sounded fantastic. In addition, he helped us set it up so that my husband's Dad and his quartet could sing a few numbers with their own guitar. Jon was very professional and proactive, and he had no problem contacting the caterer and location manager on his own to determine his setup. He even accommodated our need to have music on both the upper and lower levels of our location without needing expensive additional equipment. During the reception, Jon had a good feel for the crowd and since he is also a voiceover artist he has no problem doing announcements and speaking in front of everyone. He has a great sounding voice and he's the perfect emcee. Everyone thought the music he came up with for the crowd was terrific and the dance floor was full the whole night. I would definitely recommend Jon to anyone who's looking for a fun DJ.

Marcy Freedman

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
I hired Marcy Freedman as a day-of wedding coordinator to oversee the deliveries and decorations at my reception. She was efficient, enthusiastic and thorough. Marcy often works as an in-home organizer for private clients and is just starting to get into wedding coordinating. She is a wiz at on the spot problem solving and is highly organized and not afraid to take charge. If you're looking for someone to manage specific aspects of your wedding day or help with big picture planning, she would be great. She helped my day go off without a hitch!
