Brides of California

( 3.0 / 5.0 )
I visited Brides of California several times looking for bridesmaid dresses. They carry many lines and have ample selections from each designer. The customer service is lacking though. I had to help my girls into the dresses and clip them up- the sales girls were always MIA when we needed help. They also had lower prices than other shops. I recommend coming here to find the style you are looking for as there is much to choose from if you dont mind helping yourself.

Showed up on time for my appointment and was ignored by the two sales girls for about 15 minutes. When taken in for consultation, the sales girl was very helpful, brought out many styles that worked with my body and provided honest feedback. I went in to look at a specific style but she helped me keep an open mind about other dresses. They do carry higher end designers with big price tags- I was looking for a Lazaro gown, so yes, the dresses are expensive. When I felt like I found "the one" the sales girl was ready to close the deal- I didn't like feeling rushed in to making that very important decision. I like to think about it (but I know, she's trying to make a sale). I told them I wanted the dress but had to think about it. Since I didn't live in the area, they filled out a sales slip and sized me for the dress. The girl measured me for the dress and according to the size chart I was a 10, but the sample dress was a 10 and was HUGE on me. The salesgirl measured me 3 times and looked at the dress 3 times to confirm. The owner came over and said "the dress is streatched order the 10". I was not confortable ordering the bigger size since it clearly (even if a bit streatched) would have been too big for me). So they made me sign off that I wanted the size 8. She said she would call me, but I didn't get a call from her for over a month! Guess she didn't want the sale that badly. I ended up finding the gown on ebay for much less. Over all the shop carries high end designers and the service was good though they seemed a bit disorganized. I ended up getting my dress elsewhere but if I was going to pay full price I would consider buying from them.

Beckers Bakery

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Beckers Bakery is a local bakery in Manhattan Beach, CA. We order cakes and cookies from Beckers all the time. They are reasonably priced, tasty and have fun shaped cookies on display. For our reception, we ordered picture cookies with our logo printed on a frosted sugar cookie. They came out FANTASTIC. The cookies looked perfect. The colors were great (brown and bright green). And to top it off they tasted GREAT!!! The charge for picture cookies is $2/cookie or $1.50 cookie for 24 or more cookies. You can place your order via email along with the picture file. Super easy and perfect.

Coco's Alterations

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
I was referred to Cocos Alterations by a local bridal salon. They have been sending their brides to Coco for 5-6 years. She owns a small shop in the shopping strip next to El Gringo in Redondo Beach. I have a Lazaro silk satin gown and was hesitant taking the gown just anywhere for alterations. Rest assured I felt confident in Coco, every time I visited the shop she had many other brides, grooms and bridesmaids come in to drop off or pick up garments. My wedding gown needed the bust/waist taken in, bra cups added, hem, bustle, and bead work added to my sash. In all I had 3 fittings with Coco and she worked very hard to make sure my dress was perfect for the wedding. She also added about 200 crystals to my sash (hand beaded) as well as create a hook and bow to the sash so it can be put on as a belt vs. tying the sash (which would not have held up all night). For all the work Coco did, I only paid $275 which is way less than what a bridal salon alterations department would charge. I highly recommend Coco for wedding gown alterations.

DEL REY PARTY RENTALS

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
We had a destination wedding with a local diner party upon our return at our favorite restaurant. We rented chocolate brown banquet table cloths and sage green napkins for our party. Del Rey Rentals was easy to work with and they had the best prices I could find ($0.65/napkin, $8/table cloth). They gave me a 5 day window to pick up and return the linens. They have many colors/fabrics to choose from as well as chairs, tables and dinnerware. I am happy with the service and will rent again.

Boulevard Florist Wholesale

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
I needed centerpieces for my local reception and did not want to spend a fortune. So glad I choose Boulevard Florist. I had 5 centerpieces of green spider mums and button mums in square containers wrapped in ribbon (I provided) for $25 each! I paid 3 times that for a slightly larger arrangement for my Cabo wedding. Go Boulevard Florist! The delivery charge was only $25 too. I will use them in the future.

Unless you are paying more than $2000 for a dress do not expect to get good customer service here. This was the first salon I visited after becoming engaged on the recommendation of a friend. I should have known it was going to be bad based on the appointment process. I made an appointment several weeks in advance for a Saturday only to have them have them call to confirm my appointment for Friday (no way we made a daytime appointment on Friday-we all work!). Even though it was their mistake they could not accommodate us at the same time we wanted. I though, ok, mistakes happen. We showed up a few minutes early only to be told to wait 15 minutes. My consultant was nice but had a listening problem or was trying to force a sale. I showed her pictures of what I liked (strapless/low back, A-line) and told her what I didnt like (no lace, no heavy beading) and my budget of $2000. She pulled a few dresses. I tried the first two and my girls were crying over the second dress saying it was the one. I wasnt feeling the dress. They made me do the walk in the salon as if I was getting married, still not feeling the dress. Asked her to show me more that were like what I was looking for. She proceeded to show me lacy, heavy beaded dresses that were neither strapless nor low back two of which she has never seen on a bride (so what I am the model???). We were now running over our appointment time and she told me that I wasnt going to find what I liked in my price range (hard to believe since they boast that they have the largest selection of dresses in OC) and that I would be better off with the second dress. No thank you! I have read many reviews of Mon Amie and the only girls that received good service were buying very expensive dresses- over $3000 (because you know, $2000 is cheap!). Dont waste your time here. Or if you do, dont expect good service.

I was in FL for the weekend visiting my fiancs family. We were newly engaged and I wanted to experience dress shopping with his mother and to have her help me pick out my dress. I was interested in a specific gown. I found Tie the Knot on the Lazaro website store locator. I called the shop, spoke with the owner and indeed they had the dress I was looking for. I booked the appointment for the weekend we were visiting FL. The owner knew I was from out of state and was incredibly helpful and accommodating. We arrived for our appointment and the owner took me for a consultation. She spent time talking to me and asking me questions about the wedding venue, my style, my body type and my preferences. She used the information to help her decide what gowns I should try. She pulled about 6-8 gowns including the gown I liked. She took her time having me try on the gowns and let me show my mother in law only if I liked the dress. She spent about 2 hours with me and would have gone longer had my mother in law not pooped out! We had a lot of fun and I can tell that she really wanted me to find a dress I LOVED! She was not going to pressure me into buying a gown. She even pulled some samples that I might like to buy for some $ savings. I ended up changing my mind on the gown I liked and purchased it on ebay. Honestly, I wanted to give her the sale, she worked so hard. I highly recommend Tie the Knot. The shop also sells higher end gowns which I think are hard to come by in the area. If you are in the area or a reasonable drive, please visit this shop. You will receive great customer service from a shop owner who loves what she does for a living.

Farm Stand

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Farm Stand Restaurant on Main Street in El Segundo, CA is a gem. This is our favorite go to restaurant since it opened 2-3 years ago. We go so often, the manager and wait staff know us by name. The food is delicious- grandmas recipes with generous servings. The owners also run Caf Pierre in Manhattan Beach and Za Zou in Redondo Beach. You will find many of the same menu items (or twists of the menu) from the higher end restaurants on Farm Stands menu at a fraction of the price (same tasty quality!). We had a destination wedding and used Farm Stand as our location for our local dinner reception. They have a covered outdoor patio that can hold at least 50-60 people. You can rent out the whole patio for a minimum fee. We had about 30 guests and shared the patio with a smaller party (no interference with the parties, though we were a bit rowdy You can choose from two menu price points: Menu A $28/pp starter/entre including tax or Menu B $39.60/pp starter/entre including tax. With either menu your guests can choose from a salad or soup starter and choose from 5 different entrees (Menu B has higher priced entre like filet mignon cubes). Menu options w/dessert is additional costs (the chocolate mousse is to DIE for!). Cake cutting is $1.50/pp. We were able to bring in our own linens, flowers, cake and set up a projector for a slide show of our wedding pictures. The wait staff and management was attentive and handled our rowdy group, though they only assigned 2 waitresses for a group of 30 which I felt was not adequate (many guests had to wait a while for their food or refills on their drinks). Overall we had a wonderful experience at Farm Stand and recommend the restaurant for Rehearsal Dinners, birthday parties or just a nice casual dinner.

Rick Collins Photography

( 5.0 / 5.0 )
Hire this photographer!!!! Stop your search now. I say it again- HIRE RICK COLLINS! WE LOVE RICK! There is not enough room in this review to tell you how lucky and happy we were to find Rick. We hired Rick to travel to Cabo for our destination wedding to shoot our welcome reception, wedding day and a post nup shoot the day after the wedding. Rick is familiar with Cabo and has shot many weddings in the area. Not only is he an amazing photographer but he is an awesome person. We had a blast hanging out with him the day after our wedding for our post nup shoot. We even had him as our guest at dinner with the family that night. Rick went above and beyond trying to capture our wedding weekend and did it well in the heat (it was over 90 degress and humid all weekend). Welcome Reception We hired Rick to shoot our family on Friday night for our welcome reception at the resort bar. He even showed up early to shot our rehearsal- which I am so glad he did as there were many unexpected emotional moments he captured. At the last minute he decided he would shoot the family in town at the welcome dinner. We were happy to have him as our guest at dinner and he pulled us away to get some amazing shots in the restaurant. We have only seen one but cant wait to see the rest. Wedding Day Rick showed up to my room around noon to get some pre-wedding shots of the shoes, the rings, the dress and the girls getting ready. He popped in and out all afternoon taking great shots. I kept hearing from my family that he was all over the place at the reception and ceremony trying to get everything in and he did it all a way that we didnt even notice him. He was like a fly on the wall. Rick took the traditional family portraits after the ceremony and then we got some fun shots with the bridal party and then us alone on the beach. Rick stayed until the last minute of the reception and got shots of us getting into the party bus for the after party. He went above and beyond the day of the wedding, was unobtrusive and fun to work with. Post-nup shoot This is when the fun really began. Looking at Ricks work, I knew I wanted him to shoot us the day after the wedding around Cabo. I think I was more excited for this shoot than the wedding! He had some awesome ideas for shots in an auto wrecker lot as well as us just walking around old town San Jose. The shoot was scheduled from about 4-6pm. It was another HOT day in Cabo (over 90 degrees). We were all dying and wilting in the heat but Rick just kept shooting away and coming up with more places to take us to shoot. We ended up going to 3 locations then back to the resort for the last light of sunset on the beach. It was almost 8pm at this point. He would have gone on longer had we not pooped out. It was always "whatever you guys want". Again, above and beyond. We just got all of our photos. They are amazing. We have about 1700 shots from all 3 days, each one better than the other. It is going to be really hard to put our album together. Hire Rick. You will not be disappointed.
