Stephanie, the wedding coordinator, sat down with us and helped us decide which flowers to use. She was very knowledgeable about which flowers would look best together, how many we will need, etc. We had no trouble scheduling convenient appointment times. To save money, we opted to use the DIY program instead of having a designer put the bouquets together. My bridesmaids and I had no idea what we were doing, but the assistant showed us step-by-step how to assemble the bouquets and how to make them look their best. The price for the DIY program was great. I didn't have to cut any corners or skimp on any of my favorite flowers- I got my dream bouquet, 4 bridesmaids bouquets, and about 30 attendant boutonierres/corsages for about $250. They turned out more beautiful than I could have imagined!

I wish we never had to leave! This cabin was so beyond what I expected, even after seeing the very detailed photos on the website. We rented Sunset Ridge #27. It was very secluded and had a beautiful view. The hot tub on the back deck was amazing! The only downside was the bed- the mattress was extremely firm, so I didn't sleep well. But the living room was full of soft comfy furniture arranged around an electric fireplace and a lovely view through the back french doors. Also, everything you need to cook is supplied in a little kitchen. Just bring the groceries and you're right at home. There were way too many amenities to list here, but Getaway Cabins definitely goes above and beyond to get a jaw-dropping reaction when you walk through the front door.

Bainbridge Hall

The employees were exceptionally helpful and flexible. The cost was much lower than comparable venues in our area, and the facility was much nicer. I was able to comfortably fit about 200 people at 24 tables, plus food tables. The office manager, Katie, went above and beyond to make this the easiest part of my wedding planning. She helped me come up with a floor plan for the tables and even helped us decorate the day before the wedding. The presence of a caretaker was a part of the rental contract, and there was a charge per hour, but this turned out to be a great help because he assisted with setting up the reception supplies and helped clean up at the end of the night. My family didn't have to worry about taking out the trash, vacuuming, etc. We were able to rent some supplies directly from the hall at a much cheaper price than a rental company. The tablecloths were $5 each compared to $12 at local rental companies. When we needed access to the hall for rehearsal and decorating, Katie made a special arrangement for us to come in free of charge after office hours. I highly recommend this venue and their outstanding service!

I was amazed at the selection. They had a great range of prices, and a huge sale section. Even when the store was busy, the associates were very friendly and knowledgeable. They stayed after hours to help my bridesmaids and I pick out dresses and colors. Everything was going fantastic until we found out the dress I chose could not be rush-ordered. (supposedly this is a special rule of Mori Lee dresses only?) My only option at that late date was to buy the sample dress from the store. It was 3 sizes too big. The zipper was torn. It wasn't clean. It had been tried on and stretched by who knows how many people. Sharon assured me it could be altered perfectly and everything would be fixed. But we still ended up paying full price for the dress and alterations. We never even got a refund for the rush delivery fee. When it came time for the dress to be picked up, I made the mistake of not bringing a bridesmaid or a friend with me to check the work. I tried it on, Sharon looked it over and said it looked great. From my view of the front, it did look amazing. I signed the paper that everything was satisfactory at pick-up. When I got it home and showed my mom, we realized the torn zipper was never fixed. The bust and back were a size 10 still. Only the sides had been adjusted to fit me. Because of all the prior stretching, the row of buttons down the back that covered the zipper gaped wide open. My mom had to iron it herself and sew up the back at my wedding and use massive amounts of body tape to hold the top down. I couldn't wear it to our hotel, I had to be cut out of it before we left. After all the doctoring up at home, it looked great. I was so dissappointed with Sharon's patronizing and condescending tone any time we had to have a discussion. I was so scared of her, no way I was going back for a refund!

I selected an extremely ornate design from Martha Stewart's Wedding Cakes. Ashely's promised they could replicate this cake for about half the cost of other bakeries in our area. We also ordered a coordinating groom's cake. At the tasting and consultation, all went very well. We loved the taste, and Theresa assured us these cakes were no problem. She drew a detailed description for the decorator and even got a copy of the book to refer to the photo of the finished cake. I was so excited and couldn't wait to see it. When I got there, I was so disappointed. The wedding cake had gaps between the layers and was off-centered. The decorating was something I could have done at home. The color was nothing like what we asked for, and even the design was only slightly similar to the directions we'd left. The grooms cake was downright horrifying. Instead of delicate blue flowers and dainty carrots (it was a carrot cake with a bunny couple topper) we got giant neon orange blobs covering the top. The cake itself was leaning to one side, and the icing didn't even completely cover the sides. We were so embarrassed to show this special surprise to the groom. Although it did taste heavenly. After the wedding my mom returned to the bakery with detailed photos to show Theresa. She agreed that this wasn't at all what we had asked for and refunded more than we had ever expected. She was extremely professional and courteous. In the end, I would still return to them for cakes in the future because I'm sure Theresa will take care of any problem. And the taste was great.

Charisma Salon

I already go to this salon for all my hair cuts, I don't trust anyone else. So naturally this was my first choice for my wedding. The owner, Melissa, did my husband's hair too and it was fantastic. I brought in a few pictures from bridal magazines, and she knew exactly what I was looking for. I was so impressed with the practice session, I didn't think it could look any better. But the day of the wedding my hair was even more beautiful. I like the relaxed, comfortable style of this salon and her hours are great. Melissa is extremely customer-oriented and won't be happy unless it's perfect.

My husband bought my engagement ring and wedding band from jcp.com. It arrived in a decent amount of time, and the sale price was great. I immediately noticed there was a big chip in the center diamond and a chip in a side diamond. I took it back to the store to send it back for a repair or exchange. The jewelry associate was so rude, she insisted that the damage was not a chip, but merely an "inclusion" that occurs naturally in lower quality diamonds. I insisted that I wanted the diamonds replaced, or the entire ring set exchanged. She advised me to go upstairs to the catalog services for the transaction, who sent me back downstairs to jewelry, who told me yet again to go upstairs. The associate had no idea what she was doing, so she called the on-duty manager. He had no idea, so he had to call the store manager at his home! We ended up sending the ring back for a complete exchange. The new rings were satisfactory, but the wrong size. I took them back to the store for sizing. After measuring and assuring me they would be back as soon as possible, I waited 2 weeks for them to come back. And guess what- they were BOTH the WRONG SIZES! Two completely different sizes, neither correct. So we send them back a third time and finally got them right. My husband also ordered his ring through jcp.com, only to be told after its arrival that they didn't offer a resizing service on his particular brand of ring. He had to return the ring and shop in a frenzy the month before the wedding for a replacement. Even though the product issues were eventually corrected, I am severely dissappointed in JCP's lack of customer service and uncaring attitude. I was made to feel like I didn't know what I was talking about. Nobody ever even apologized for all the inconvenience!

Cici's Pizza (Dayton)

( 3.0 / 5.0 )
By the time the rehearsal dinner came around, both mine and my husband's family were feeling the financial crunch. So we opted for something more creative to feed 25 people after our rehearsal. CiCi's Pizza seemed like the perfect place because it was casual, buffet-style, and only cost $4 per person. We did call ahead a few weeks before to let them know we'd have a large party. But the reservations got mixed up with another location, so they weren't ready for us. After a bit of a wait we were able to push some tables together so mostly everyone could sit together. But getting the food at the buffet took even longer- they ran out of plates, pizza, and forks. It was a good deal for $4 each, but I'm not sure I'd sacrifice a pleasant dinner for cost again.

The Flower Factory - Dayton

( 4.0 / 5.0 )
I shopped at Flower Factory for a lot of my decorations and catering supplies. I needed tons of tissue paper for my handmade flower centerpieces. They had the best price, but I had to make several return trips to buy more when it came back in stock. I also purchased most of my centerpiece vases here, my cake serving set, and all my thank you cards. Their service could be improved by offering a more flexible return policy and by having more of certain things on hand. They have a great selection of coordinating party supplies such as napkins, plates, cups, etc. I also bought a lot of large plastic serving trays there. Although I didn't buy any myself, they have a lot of wedding favor supplies available.
